I would rather do 3.5 stars here despite having good memories here. The sunny warmth was a nice break from the cool, cloudy and mountainous areas we had been touring through Gate 1 Travel. As Kay K pointed out, the beach is right there! It was November and coolish, 60 degrees, so not ideal swim weather. The flavored water in the lobby and hanging art work really make the place look great. We arrived near the evening, with dinner at the hotel included. We went to our room to change clothes and stretch out and found..a bottle of sparkling wine, on ice, with 2 glasses! It was my birthday, and they sent a really nice note to thank us for sharing my birthday with them! I don't know if Gate1 requested this or not, but it was such a nice gesture! We headed to dinner on the first floor (there are actually 2 buildings here, but some renovation was going on) where the breakfast buffet takes place. Dinner was buffet style, with beverage service. There were carving stations, fruit, dessert, so much good food! I never came back for dinner, just for breakfast, which was so expansive and well done. It was nice to sit near a window with a view of the water/pool. The bathroom was fine, a bidet and shower that was not too hard to operate. Again, minimal towels. But also a balcony with chairs and a small table. I did not ask if all rooms have a balcony, but I doubt they all have ocean (?) views. We found the staff approachable and friendly. The bar on the first floor had live nightly entertainment. We missed the first Elvis night, but caught some of the Saturday act. It was ok, just rehashing tunes for the middle age set of tourists, like on a cruise. I took a day off from touring to walk around, shop, and relax on the sundeck in a chair to read with a sangria! It was prob the highlight of my stay. The reason for the 3.5 starts is we saw a dead bug on the stairwell, and a live one in our bathroom! It was probably a waterbug. By the time I ran to grab a shoe, it was gone. To their credit, we called downstairs and a staff member with spray came in. Not sure if they needed to exterminate more, or if this was a fluke. It was our last night anyway. They were good enough to open the buffet breakfast extra early with Continental foods because we had to check out by 6:30am! read more

Comfortable. Clean. Classy. Beds were comfortable. I was so glad to have a bidet and a shower door that closes more of the way to stop the floor getting wet. The buffet breakfast and dinners were amazing gormet cuisine. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Ironically, the AC was not running during our stay (March 21-24,2024). The review before mine explained why! So we are here during what's considered "winter" here. Well, we ended up opening the balcony sliding door part of the way to get air in the stuffy room. Even during the night, so we could sleep. Still, I'd say this was a very decent hotel stay. We didn't have time to swim, or lounge much. The pool looks fantastic. Definitely a 4 star hotel! Very nice facilities located right across the street from the beach. It's bright, modern, and clean throughout. They're decorated for the holiday season, so it makes it even nicer. All the different areas (cocktail lounge, dining room, lobby, pool areas, and roof bar/terrace are very streamlined and impressive. My room is spacious and it has a small balcony so I can sit outside to read or just get some fresh air. The buffet restaurant is open certain hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the offerings are varied and plentiful; something for any and every one. I had the dinner buffet last night (scrumptious offerings of meat, fish, and a thousand other things) and the breakfast buffet this morning. I was so impressed that they offered honey straight from the honeycomb!! So many things to try, but, alas, not enough room in my stomach to try everything! This seems like a very touristy area, but it's December, so not too many people enjoying the pools and beaches. I can imagine how crowded it would be during high season. Most of the restaurants and shopping areas are geared toward tourists, so not much to speak of, although the food is okay. The room includes complimentary tea and coffee and a can of mineral water, but the water was not replaced after I drank it. I don't know if that was an oversight by housekeeping or if you only get one can; I'll know better tomorrow! None of the front desk workers or the folks at the dining room were very friendly, but a housekeeper was. I think most people would appreciate some pleasantries when they approach staff; a simple hello or good morning would go a long way! read more

I have so many positive things to say about Melia Costa del Sol. First things first, location location location! The beach is literally across the street, you're surrounded by stores and restaurants, and easy to navigate streets. The property is quite large. You walk into Melia Costa del Sol and it's a very grandiose feeling because the lobby is expansive and bright. The main corridors/hallways are immaculately clean. This lives up to the reputation of being a classy beach front property without the pretentiousness. The hotel bar hosts musical acts several times a week that are well attended. The onsite restaurant is enormous. Breakfast buffet was included and it was a super generous spread. It was nice to see gluten free breads and snacks offered as well as non-dairy milks. That was a nice surprise. Rooms are comfortably sized with a private balcony containing tables and chairs. Hot water kettles are included. This was the only hotel during our Spain stay (we stayed in 4 hotels) that had in room kettles. read more

There are many reasons why I will give this hotel very bad rating but I will start with the most obvious one -disgusting and dirty bathrooms -lack of towels, even though we were in a suite that had 4 to 6 people -lack of power numerous times during our visit -lack of room service -it was almost impossible to get through somebody over the phone to the reception -The pool is extremely cold and extremely small, for a hotel the size the pool should be heated and be bigger. -lack of things to do for the kids, even though they claim to be a kid friendly Hotel -The whole experience as well as the staff was subpar -we will not be back again Not super happy with stay but at least I had my family with us so it was bearable! read more

We checked in today and it was over 70 degrees. The hotel room AC and hotel phone were not working. I went to the front desk and I was told that the AC is not on because it is the winter. They only have the heater on. I asked for a different room and I was told there were fully booked tonight. I asked for an electric fan and I was told that they don't have any. I went to get ice and their ice machine is not working either. Wow! This is pathetic. read more

A first class facility run by uncooperative and arrogant staff that are dedicated to minimize your comfort and experience. Even though their head office promote incentives and "rewards" you will get stone walled by arrogant staff determined to find any reason to reject any claims. Whatever reputation this hotel used to have is being undermined by employees who are often rude and condescending. The priority at this hotel is their higher priced LEVEL program which seems relegate everyone else to "economy" guests. read more

Stayed here for a short break after Easter, where the customers were mainly of 'an age'  and in the main, travelling as couples.  I visited with my elderly mother and what I can say without a shadow of a doubt is that ALL the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble, from the bell hops, front desk, Level concierge to housekeeping and room service. In general Spanish folk, in my experience are very family orientated but the staff here really did go the 'extra mile'. Apologies for missing out names but in particular the following people aided us enormously during our stay, Antonio at the restaurant, Pedro on the front desk, Jasmine at the Level lounge and Paco at the pool.  The pool faces the beach but the deck on the left side as you look from the beach only has morning sunshine so the other side tends to be rather crowded in the afternoon. There are several tables towards the back with umbrellas to provide shade from the very hot sunshine. Once negotiated the beach chair umbrellas provide shade in varying degrees (adjustable) which is very useful. There is another sun deck on the next level up (stairs)  and the hotel is in the process of building a Rooftop pool and deck. (some building noise as I write)  I would imagine the pool decks to be pretty busy during high season, so you might be better off avoiding staying at that time... (If you have the option)  The deluxe sea view room was a decent size with a balcony for morning sun.  We were slightly unfortunate in that our room did have a somewhat unpleasant odour in the Bathroom, which despite several attempts the hotel were unable to manage. Thank goodness for my Jasmine deodorant!  That aside our stay was excellent, the main restaurant served some authentic Spanish dishes at reasonable prices.  The Level lounge provides just the right amount of snacks to leave you to enjoy lunch or dinner elsewhere. Let's start with the good - the hotel is nice. Nice rooms, amazing rooftops (both towers), good beachfront location, quality facilities, and so on. The bad? We are halfway through our stay and not a single staff we have interacted with has been pleasant so far. I would've settled for indifferent but they've been downright unhelpful and borderline rude. Which is baffling because the people in this town (and Spain, in general) are very friendly. The check-in lady blamed me for the reservation showing up incorrectly in their systems, even though I had a clear print-out of the hotel confirmation that said I had booked The Level. The manager insisted that I pay extra on the spot for a room at The Level, and to dispute it with the travel agency. The staff at The Level were equally rude about our ability to use the rooftop lounge. And when our keys stopped working the day after check-in, the front desk staff blamed us for putting them close to our phones. However, when asked, she acknowledged that the validity of the keys were incorrectly set to expire days before we were checking out. After she re-keyed them, I pressed her to check again and she said the validity of the keys were correctly set to tomorrow, even though we're checking out in 3 days. Lastly, the Beach Club entry guy was super rude when we asked if we could buy drinks. He basically said we needed to make a reservation to sit on the beach chairs and we must order food, which is false. He kept insisting that they were a restaurant, when there clearly were dozens of empty beach chairs. Zero apologies. Zero accountability. Zero ownership of any issues you bring up to them. The staff here treat you like you're a burden and you're always wrong, instead of trying to help with the situation. Sadly, this is by far the worst service I've ever encountered in Spain, which is such a beautiful country with amazing food, people, and culture. I really want to like this hotel and I've given it a couple of days, but... my recommendation? Avoid this hotel if you are expecting any service whatsoever. BE CAREFUL!!, THEY STOLE SOMETHING FROM MY ROOM. I enjoyed the hotel since it is the nicest in the area but the last day I discovered that something was missing from my bag. I knew that I had this thing since I used it in my room during my staying. The hotel dud not investigate or did anything at all. They did not wanted my phone number or anything even though they said they will call me. Of course they never called. ¡¡TENGAN CUIDADO!! QUE ROBARON ALGO EN MI HABITACIÓN. Disfruté del hotel ya que es el mejor de la zona, pero el último día descubrí que faltaba algo en mi bolso. Sabía que lo tenía conmigo por que la usé en mi habitación durante mi estancia. This is very well located and very clean and modernize. They organize activities every day. Their terrace bar with music is very nice. Don't order the sangria from Malaga! It not like the classic sangria. Pool very nice, breakfast very nice! read more

(12/12/2016) We were here with a tour from the U.S. Thought the rooms were very nice, comfortable, clean. Every room gets a balcony, that part is awesome. The rooms are also very modern, USB charging ports, flat screen TV, free WiFi. The hotel is rather large and split into two halves, if you're staying in one end and breakfast is in the other, it's a little ways off. The outdoor pool has a gorgeous deck, and I bet this place is hopping in the summer. Breakfast was rather posh, large variety, buffet and chef stations, and BONUS: mimosa bar! read more

This hotel has really awful Internet. I would think a big corporate hotel could get it to together to Internet in the rooms, lobby or dining areas but all of that seems beyond them. The breakfast buffet was lackluster but edible. The bathrooms are cramped. The thing that really bothered me was the hotel is pumping something that smells like men's aftershave through the ventilation system that made me sneeze and my nose run. If I ever come back to area I will find a different hotel. read more

We stayed for a week and found everything nice, modern and as described in booking.com. Of course the seaview from the balcony cannot be as if there was no street in between. However it is always nice to see beach, sea and horizon whenever you go out. Very nice breakfast buffet and friendly staff. Very reasonably priced. For 3x the price you probably get even more luxury somewhere else. But we really liked it here! read more
