25 years ago on the evening of April 9, 1997, I called him to inform him that my wife's "waters broke" at precisely 1930 and I was taking my wife to the hospital. He literally said that he would meet us there in 30 minutes. unfortunately for my daughter, he was involved in a dinner party and didn't show up until 2230. Three hours later. I could not say enough good things about Dr. Mellum and his staff - especially nurse Debbie. All of my office visits were great and Dr. Mellum is great at walking you through everything. He has the best bedside manner and generally is just somebody you can trust. I had one of those deliveries that defied all my 'birth planning' in almost every way and I am so very thankful that Dr. Mellum and the staff at Enloe were there to get me and my baby through safely. I would highly recommend Dr. Mellum. I have nothing but the highest respect for him and how he cares for you as a patient. I love his office staff and how they treat you. Dr Mellum and nurse Debbie are amazing. Wonderful, kind, supportive and so helpful. I have a history of miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy. They are great about booking me an early ultrasound, even before my 12 wk with him. He is so popular it is often hard to become a patient of his. Once you do however, you can return easily for additional pregnancies. He is definitely a favorite for moms, many of us traveling 30-50 minutes to be his patients. With my fertility history I have met a few different OBs from Red Bluff to Chico. Once I met Mellum, I will never go to anyone else. read more

I previously lost a child at 17 years old and when I got pregnant again with my daughter, he made me feel so at ease and did everything in his power to help me deliver a healthy babygirl. Such an amazing doctor! He is open and honest, kind, and very patient with the various questions that I had. His nurse is absolutely wonderful too! I am basing this review off of Dr. Mellum directly and not his staff. He is very personable and always makes me feel comfortable in the most uncomfortable situations. Had two of my babies under his care as well as an additional surgery. Very knowledgeable and is also very upfront; I don't like things sugar coated and he doesn't do that at all. I would highly recommend him to anyone that is in need of a good OBGYN. He is legit. His staff is great, his nurse Debbie is always so kind and so is his Nurse Practitioner Jennifer. So friendly and down to earth. I love that. The back office staff has always been good with giving me information and dealing with my insurance. Maria at the front desk could be touch and go; friendly most days but others seems very overwhelmed and it shows. My first appointment with Dr. Mellum 4 years ago did not start off well with Maria. My husband and I took time off from work and when we arrived, we waited 45 minutes. She then mentions Dr. Mellum had an emergency and my appointment was cancelled. I understood, someone was probably having a baby! But, when it came time to reschedule, she had a problem because dates and times weren't working. She thought I was a "student and had class or something..." No, I have a full time job and have obligations. Geesh. That rubbed me the wrong way but all was worked out and haven't had a problem since. Overall, Dr. Mellum is a very kind man who I have trusted over the years. Dr Mellum and his staff have been amazing to work with. I've had a difficult start with this pregnancy, and they saw me weekly to make sure I was okay and the baby was progressing normally. Dr Mellum is honestly the best doctor I have ever had. He's compassionate, friendly, informative, patient with questions and concerns, and he has made calls to me after his business hours to get in touch when I had a concern or make sure I was okay. I so appreciate that and I feel very comfortable having him as my doctor. As for all the comments about not getting an appointment, I'm not sure what has happened with that, but I have never had an issue at all. I know he has lots of patients and he's extremely busy, but he still makes a point to know his patients and is genuinely concerned and interested in each individual. I would highly recommend him and will not be seeing any other OBGYN in the future. read more

Dr. Mellum is simply the best. He is kind-hearted, easy to talk to, and excellent with nervous husbands/to-be daddies. Debbie and Maria are outstanding (nurse and secretary/scheduler) and always in a positive, happy mood. I feel genuinely cared for 100%, and each time a little more than the visit prior. My concerns are always met with understanding and reassurance. I feel Dr. Mellum is very well read in his practice and research, and highly skilled in high-risk deliveries, which is of the utmost importance when dealing with someone who has not one, but two lives potentially in his hands. Not many women can say they actually look forward to going to their OBGYN, but if there's one that you can look forward to seeing, it's Dr. Mellum and his staff. read more

THE WORST COSTUMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. I called this morning due to a threatened miscarriage I had over New Years Eve. Before I even got to explain to the lady on the phone that I needed to get my hcg levels to make sure the baby was okay she interrupted me and asked what insurance I had. I told her what it was and she said they did not except that insurance and that she was canceling my first appointment, told me that it was MY fault and I was supposed to know that they didn't accept my insurance. Funny because when I made my first appointment they said that they did accept it and they even took all my information off my card. She then proceeded to tell me that she wasn't going to argue with me and hung up on me. Totally insensitive to why I was calling, she didn't take time to explain things calmly and maturely. Thank you for making me cry and for ruining my day. I wish she would have answered the phone with her name because I would be making sure I would be calling her out right now. You don't treat people like that, especially when they are worried about the health of their unborn child. I could go on but I'm sure the lady who answered the phone this morning has done this to way more women and doesn't even care. read more

Extremely disappointed with Dr Mellum and his staff. I had to call multiple times to schedule an appointment after we moved to the area. The nurses always say "I have to check with the doctor and see if that works"-- really you can schedule something without his approval?! After finally setting an appointment, I drove 45 minutes to get there and my husband took time off work to go, and they tell me "your appointment was canceled, sorry we forgot to call"!! Forgot to call?! I'm 35 weeks pregnant and you just forget to call and cancel my appointment?! Ok so can you see me now sense I'm here? "Nope. But maybe we can fit you in the evening of next Friday.. Call us if you haven't heard from us." Seriously?!?! And if I go into labor early then what?? The last few weeks you should go to the dr every week.. Not go without seeing anyone for weeks on end! You should know that! If you have too many patients to see then don't take on more! I'm going to find a dr that I can actually rely on, to keep my appointments!!!! read more

I've been granted access to see Dr. Mellum twice (I say this as you cannot make an appointment-Maria, the receptionist, will take your info & call you back if they "decide" to take you as a patient.) As another reviewer mentioned, the receptionist can be quite curt! She's unfriendly & won't return phone calls, even in dire circumstances. I've had to resort to repeated calls and going into the office & not leaving until I get an answer. When you're going through a miscarriage, waiting in the lobby is torture! A room full of women excitedly talking about their babies & your in the midst of loosing yours! The only reason for a star is for Debbie, the nurse who is usually caring & helpful (she can be a bit curt at times as well). Dr. Mellum comes across as a nice man & if you're religious, he may be the right doc for you. I've been through two miscarriages, the 1st-he was flexible & went above & beyond-seeing me earlier a little earlier than 10-12 weeks. Unfortunately, he went through every possible test & choice to determine if the baby was OK before the US. After this long discussion & paperwork-the US showed a "Blighted Ovum" & that I would miscarry. The 2nd pregnancy, Maria would NOT grant me an earlier appointment, even after explaining my history and that I'm high risk due to my age & history. I ended up miscarrying before my initial appointment. There were major miscommunications between the message I left with Maria & the nurse/doc, which resulted in no help & dismissal of my concerns. The ER at Enloe ended up being more helpful. After my 2nd miscarriage, I was finally seen as a "follow-up", I was distraught & crying. Dr. Mellum compassionately offered to put me on anti-depressants & said a prayer for me (I'm not religious)! I was offended that he wanted to put me on meds immediately, being upset is a very natural reaction to what I had just been through. I felt a lack of sympathy or understanding. Sorry for my long review, to conclude-I will never enter Dr. Mellum's office again for care. There has to be a better OB in this area that actually listens & has compassion! read more

I absolutely love Dr. Mellum. I had a different OB with my first pregnancy, and didn't feel 100% comfortable with him (he was a little cold), so I decided I would try Dr. Mellum this time around. I couldn't be happier. He is very caring, and clearly loves what he does. Debbie, his nurse, is very sweet, and Maria at the front is great too. Debbie always takes the time to answer any questions you have. She was so helpful throughout my pregnancy. I would highly recommend Dr. Mellum and his staff. read more

I made an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner to discuss possible infertility issues. She was absolutely amazing. Sweet as pie! Then the problems started. I was told I would be mailed a lab sheet, I wasn't. I had to stop by and pick it up. While at the lab I did not have my insurance card and they called Dr. Mellum's office while I stood there and requested the insurance info be faxed, it wasn't. I was told the Nurse Practitioner would call with my test results, she didn't. I called 4 times before I even got the results, and only because I waited on hold for 30 minutes. I have called several times to ask simple questions regarding ovulation dates, etc. NEVER gotten a call back. I call literally twice a week to ask for a call back and I never receive them. Unbelievably rude to ignore a woman who is scared and worried that she may never be able to have children. And what if I was pregnant and this was an emergency?? ...I'm still waiting for my call back. I scheduled a new appointment elsewhere. read more
