Food is good, but not great, but they're either out of 2/3 of their draft beers, or the system is broken. The beers I had though were great. Service was exceptional. Really great servers and bartenders. The place is super cute too. Maybe it's a 10/10 if everything is running 100%? Tough to recommend at 30% though. read more

I love this place! The burgers are all pretty fantastic... but the corn dogs are what I typically get. You can choose what kind of batter is on it, as well as the dip and the coating... and they're pretty massive. Much larger than your typical USA corn dog. I give it four stars out of five because the wait staff here is usually either stretched too thin, or just preoccupied and you have to flag them down for everything, including refills and even sometimes so you can make your order. read more

When I'm not sampling local fare in a new country.. I always seem to try burgers wherever I go. This place was perfect because it had a weekday lunch deal for a burger, fries, and beer for 10 euro. I sat at the bar and service was prompt. They have a handful of Austrian beers on tap.. I chose the Pilsner which went down smooth. I ordered the blue cheese burger which came with aioli and caramelized onion.. so much cheese.. it was the perfect messy burger! I can't praise this restaurant enough. They're extremely welcoming to everyone including English speakers with full English menus. The lunch special is fantastic, you can choose any food item along with any beer for 10 euros. The beer selection is massive and wide ranging. I suppose the variety doesn't quite matter as much as the taste but the food quality is also amazing. I got a chicken fajita bowl and the portion was hearty and delicious. No, it wasn't the best burger, or the best beer I've had, but it was probably the most impressive list I've ever seen. Mostly EU, few Japanese and a handful of American beers. If you love craft beer this is the place for you. We stumbled upon this gem while trying to find our way home after NYE. Their selection has what seems to be hundreds of beer. If you do not find what you're looking for on tap they will have it in a bottle. They have an impressive selection. The bartender was extremely nice and informative. Mel's is located in a fantastic area. Very accessible from Stefanplatz, but off the main stretch enough that the area is quite and relaxing. Every day, they offer an early bird special where you can get a meal and a 0.25 L tap beer for 10 euros. Their selection of beers and ciders is wonderful and the food was fantastic. I tried the "Jack the ripper" burger. While the burger was slightly more done than I prefer (note it was not overdone by any means), the meal was incredible and I was barely able to finish all the food I was given. The wait staff was very friendly and had no problem with English if you do not speak German. Would definitely return! read more

Solid beer selection here, including both European and U.S. craft brews! Some good rare bottles and great tap selections. Food is also quite good. I have to give this place a 5 star rating. The food was good and this was the first place that I've been that actually had a true variety of beer. The first place that I've been that's had an IPA since I've been on this continent. If you like beer and traditional American bar food, come here. Pictures of the menu are already posted, I won't waste your time listing it all here. I'd also recommend doing a flight of beer, they always have 28 beers on tap and tons more in bottles. Great beer! It's pricy but as soon as craft beer is in the name you know it's going to be expensive. The burgers were very good. The worst part was the smell. It smelled like old French fry oil. It was an appetite killer. They need to work on the ventilation big time. Our waiter was great, very friendly but he was overworked. He was serving the entire restaurant on his own. He went out of his way to warm up baby food for our daughter. Much appreciated. The bathrooms need a renovation. They are the same as the ones when this place was called Waxy Murphy's. read more

The service was good and the waitress was knowledgeable about the beers they had and was able to recommend me a few to try. @Rick S. 'Beer Lovers' is a craft beer store, not a restaurant. Not exactly a great recommendation if someone is looking for a restaurant/bar to sit down at. Additionally, I did not find the service to be slow although bars and restaurants in Europe tend to have less staff than found in the USA. This is probably one reason why they are able to charge $3.5-$5 Euros for a quality beer vs. $7-8 where I'm from in the states. read more

I've visited Mel's twice and I am certain I will never return. While the beer selection is great, you shouldn't count on having the time to try many of them since the service is HORRIBLY SLOW. Both times I went it was a busy Friday night and they had only two servers. Last night, my friend and I only had one round in the 2 1/2 hours we were there. I was going to have dinner but the server never came back to ask. Even worse, when we asked for ice, they told us they didn't have enough ice for everyone. Seriously? read more
