These folks are good at what they do and they have the right equipment to do it. Don't expect cheap. Nothing quality is cheap but they are not gouging people. It's the cost of running a higher tech operation. Some of these bad reviews are ridiculous like the teeth pulling not realizing they helped that dog live a longer life. I'M GIVING A RATING OF "ONE STAR", BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING LOWER TO SELECT. We have been taking our dog and cat to Memorial for a couple years now, for routine checkups etc, and have been satisfied up to this point. HOWEVER, upon my 5 year old Aussie's last checkup, it was noted that she should have her teeth cleaned, to avoid gum and tooth problems down the road. I dropped her off before work last week for the procedure, and when they called in the afternoon for her to be picked up, I was informed that they PULLED OUT 7 TEETH! I was shocked, to say the least. The one upper back one had a crack in it, and needed removed.....totally agree. Then she goes on to say that they pulled ALL 6 bottom front teeth between the canines. WHY? The reasons seemed flimsy, and besides, it was said she doesn't need those teeth anyways. My wife finally got a response back from them later in the week, (3 days later) she wanted some assurance that removing those teeth was necessary, and why we weren't consulted first BEFORE that decision was made. Well, after the same flimsy reasons, the blame shifted to ME for not specifically noting on her chart to call first, before they remove perfectly good teeth, when I signed the paperwork. WHO KNEW! I NEVER THOUGHT IN A MILLION YEARS THAT SUCH A THING WOULD EVEN HAPPEN! I didn't think I had to SPECIFICALLY tell them to check with us first before you start pulling out good teeth. We would have NEVER agreed it, there was no problem with those teeth. In the final analysis, what's done is done, my dog's front teeth are gone. Going forward, hopefully we learned something from this; finding a new vet, for starters. We love it at Memorial. It's our dog Franklin's favorite place in the world! Finley, not so much, but that's okay, he's a little more scared of everything. The facility is nice, clean and updated. The front desk staff and techs are great and we love all of the dogtors. Our dogs have had multiple surgeries here and it's always gone flawlessly. They are always quick to get us in during emergencies, and it's nice they are open on Saturdays. Check out their Bed&Biscuit boarding facility and training classes as well. read more

I had a great experience from start to finish with MAH. I called to get a new pet appointment and was pleasantly surprised that they could get me an appointment as soon as a week out (most other vets were telling me they were not taking new pets for months out). They were extremely helpful and nice during the visit and the Doctor was able to give me a great number of treatment options for my cat. It takes stress away from me knowing that there is a plan to take care of my animal now and in the future at memorial. read more

I have no idea where this site got my "address" for this review. I live in Ravenna Ohio" I hade an appointment for 1 of my cats for Tuesday, went to the appointment no problems. I had also made an appointment during the same phone call I made the Tuesday appointment for Friday for 2 other cats, one is feral enough to need medication to catch cage and transport it. I got there and was informed that I don't have an appointment for any cats. When they asked my last name they then informed me that I have 1 appointment for the cat named Squeeky - which is the cat I brought in on Tuesday. Why would I make 2 appointments for the same cat for the same shots in 1 week? But of course this was not their fault according to them, And I was being unreasonable to want both may cats that were extremely stressed out, to be seen by their vet because they had several emergencies during the day and didn't have time to see both of my cats however I could chose 1 to see the vet. SO evidently calling and making appointments for your pets doesn't guarantee your pets will be seen and you put them thru all that stress for no reason. The incompetency of the front office is unbelievable, and my cats will be going to another clinic. read more

OK, this is a 3 part review. Talking about 3 different visits. Our first ever visit. It was good, with my male OSH cat. Clean offices/attractive grounds. They did additional labwork without giving me pricing first (!) or telling me it was needed 'because of his age'/for a baseline. That is *not good* if the client is cash-basis/no-credit-card, or low-income. I guess they don't think of that in this nicer neighborhood. Doctor was great with my terrified Oriental, who was crying and peed himself in the crate. (Traumatized by rude dogs at a prior vet). Great that she's pro-Lysine supplement for cats and not anti-raw-diet. BUT. I only came here because the receptionist said there was a board-certified feline specialist veterinarian. There IS NOT. Dr. Bayless just is cat-friendly. (I HOPE the vets like cats!) Nearest ABVP Feline Specialists are in Cuyahoga Falls and Mayfield Hts. Second visit - during quarantine. It was unsatisfactory. It is ridiculous to make owners sit outside, even if masked. (Don't get me started on how useless non-fitted masks are against airborne viruses, which get in eyes and ears too. N95 masks are ineffective too - said virus SARS2/Covid19 is too small.) If the pet-parents must wait outside, a shelter, shade, bench should be provided. Not everyone has a comfy car. PARTA, Lyft, Uber, taxis, many friends - don't wait for you - just drop you off. Then you wait for pickup. Especially hard on disabled/old people. A pandemic-cautious waiting area is badly needed. My cat was upset without me to the point the doctor couldn't even look in her mouth! Of course I missed out on the usual in-office discussion. A call isn't that good as a substitute. Lost the chance to ask questions arising during exam. 3rd visit - Phone encounter. Just needed an Rx for recurring cat URI infection (special needs pet). Started out great. I trusted what I was told that the Rx would be called in after it was okayed. Had to call back 4hrs later, to get answer if it was okayed. Was told it was called in and should be ready tomorrow. Next morning - NO Rx at my pharmacy. WHAT?! This time, I wasted 8 (yes, eight) phone calls, between calling the vet, my pharmacy, and another pharmacy provided by the first. Marc's pharmacist was more knowledgeable than the receptionist(s). OMG. Needed antibiotic is 1)out of stock at supplier. 2)only available in pill form to them. I told the receptionist the doctor could have found all this out immediately yesterday - had she even *tried* calling it in. WHY is the client put in the middle? She had no answer. I think it's reasonable for clerical staff to do these things. Like medical office staff do. Also astounding is that the front desk doesn't know which pharmacies fill pet Rxes. WHAT?! Aren't the patients all animals here? I had to ask if there was an effective substitute drug, preferably also used by humans - so pharmacy would have it. (why am I doing all this myself?). Answer was 'no'. It's reasonable to expect some pro-active help, like the pharmacies for people give. Then they will know for next time a client needs help. And now, a day is wasted, and my little OSH has no relief yet. :-(. I'm blowing more money, since I have to use Lyft to/from the vet's office. I'll be paying double the actual cost due to this. Even though I told them I have lung disability, still have to sit outside in 85f heat, no shelter...wait for Lyft. And BTW. Lung patient's *can't* wear masks for long. Medically true. We're impaired already. UTTERLY frustrated/peeved/worried/upset. Going to need a different vet practice after this. Soooo. If this sort of thing won't bug you...come here. Initially I DID like this practice. But this is not all crazy due to Covid19 scare. The way things are done/not done probably won't change. read more

"Line em up, wait your turn, pay us, and get out" Upon entering MAH I was greeted by a dimly lit, sparsely decorated waiting room with rows of uncomfortable chairs lining the walls and 2 or 3 copies of old magazines strewn about. In addition, I felt that vibe...you know, that vibe of being amongst a receptionist and a couple assistants who didn't like their jobs. No music in the waiting room. A very insincere monotone "Can I help you?" as I walked in. No hello for myself or Kovi. No smiles, no positive vibes. That was the vibe. You know that vibe. A woman grumpily entered my information then I proceeded to wait. And.....wait. A request for water for my dog was honored, 20 minutes after the fact. Finally enter the "holding cell" aka exam room. A woman cheerlessly began reading off questions. "He's been here before, my Dad brought him, do you have a record..." I started to say before she snapped that asking these questions was standard procedure. I almost laughed out loud at that point because by now it really felt like myself and dog were being booked into jail at this point and not paying customers trying to find relief for my dogs persistent ear infection. Finally the vet arrived with a clipboard. This review is taking me longer to type than she spent with my dog. A swab was taken and she left after talking AT me for several minutes and trying her best to avoid any questions. I left with a tiny tube of zymox priced at over double the cost charged by most internet retailers. A "lab charge" of over $30 and an "exam charge" of over $80. I politely declined the $30 charge for 6 50mg diphenhydramine pills (about a 5000% markup) and the $20 aspirins. These pills were just given to me by the assistant with no explanation from the vet. I wonder how many customers they fleece daily with this tactic. I asked to speak with the vet again. "She's with another client, you'll have to wait..." Um, WHAT? I really cannot believe the nerve this woman had, rushing me through the examination then ducking out the back door, forcing me to chase her down to have a few very routine questions answered. Unbelievable lack of consideration. Bottom line is that I'm picky about veterinarians. I prefer them to have a sincere love for animals, a passion for what they do, and a candid, honest approach to dealing with their customers. Come to think of it, I guess that isn't all that picky. My family and I have gone here for almost 30 years with all of our pets. I have just recently moved home from Wisconsin with my dog and wanted to get him back in and on the books as I know they are busy and it can be almost 6 months to get in. Well I wasn't even given the chance as they will not accept "inactive clients" as I have lived in Wisconsin and Mowgli hasn't been there in 3-4 years. Almost 30 years of service with all of my family's animals going back to Banks and Beutel days. It's pretty clear there is no connection or personal touch to long time families that have trusted memorial animal hospital forever. It seems they have become another churn and burn veterinarian that is more interested in keeping the schedule full, selling name brand medications, and focusing on the bottom dollar. This is no longer a center to connect with a vet on a personal level and trust that they are looking out for your animals best interest. I came in with a semi-emergency, thought my dog had either dislocated or broke her tail. I had called multiple other facilities to get her in and none were as accommodating as this. I was politely greeted on the phone and at the door. Waited less than 5 minutes in the lobby. The staff was all so friendly and took time to get to know Bella. Dr Maglott played around with her and talked to her very sweetly. He listened to all of our concerns and made sure to be very thorough. He showed us all the xrays and explained everything in a manner we could understand. At the end, it was half the price of any other place. Would definitely recommend! read more

So here is an updated review for 2018, this office has been rebuilt along with a kennel added in the back. We have been taking are pets here for 11 years , we work with Dr. McGlott. We have never had a bad experience through three animals oh, and I have an elderly German Shepherd. If I call the staff at the desk is usually very helpful, and when it's an emergency they are very quick to respond. We have been using their kennel and the girls are very good at making sure the dogs are comfortable get their medication and spend time with them making sure they get activity. Of all the veterinarians I have been to over the years this has certainly been the one where they have been the most concerned over your pet and you. read more

What can I say, I've read some of the other reviews and can gladly say my multiple experiences with this veterinary hospital have been the complete opposite. I recently agreed to foster an American Pitbull for some "friends" of mine. Long story short, this dog doesn't know her own strength & plays very rough. She accidentally jumped on my little 20 lb dog & did over $300.00 worth of damage. Memorial was willing to let me bring my little guy in before the doors even opened and patched him up in less than an hour. Dr. Andrew Maglott was extremely friendly & even called me personally to give me an update after my dog had to be sedated. I realize that yes, the office does seem a bit out dated & the secretarial staff is often abrupt or come off as rude but not all of them are this way. If I had gone to the animal hospital, it is $200.00 down before they even see your pet. So cost wise I can't complain, it was $148.10 for the first emergency visit. The offices are always clean & one of the vets there does reptiles. She doesn't just claim to have knowledge of them (like Stow/Kent Animal Hospital does) but she knows her stuff & properly diagnosed my tortoise. If it hadn't been for this place, Paul would've continued on misdiagnosed & probably died (he had a parasite from his previous owners lack of care). So, I can understand the hesitance but (for the time being) have nothing bad to report about this Veterinary clinic. read more

I would trust nobody else with my pets! WhenI first moved to Kent I had a dog that had been suffering with chronic health problems that had perplexed many vets his whole life. It was Dr. Hiebel who was able to accurately diagnose him and give him a quality of life he had never had. The staff she has working for her today all have the same high standards and continue to show compassion for my pets while giving them the highest quality care. They have squeezed me in when my schedule is hectic, always keep to a fairly tight schedule (barring the occasional emergency), and I have never felt like I was being over-charged. read more

We take alot of animals there and after the last visit costing us at the very top of their educated guess during a surgery, it will be our last visit. I just happened across this YELP page for Memorial Animal Hospital by Eli L. I am very surprised at the completely negative review! I have been going to this veterinarian since two of my good friends recommended it to me years ago. Apparently Eli prefers vets who charge lots of money and spend it on decor and comfort for the human owners? Memorial has cared for two of my dogs since I left the much more expensive Stow/Kent Animal Hospital that did spend a lot of money spiffing up its building. Talk about "line em up, *wait* and hurry you out!" Even though there are kindly vets in Stow/Kent, (and their Brimfield extension) they managed not to find major illnesses my pets had - like a huge, mouth cancer until it was too late to save him. So I switched back to Memorial. It used to be called Banks and Beutel and I had gone there decades ago. One of those old, traditional vets was very rough and callous in treating my dog, so that's why I had moved to Stow/Kent. You never knew who you were going to get at S/K and if you asked for the popular one, you would have to wait days and hours to see him. Memorial changed hands after that and became a preferred vet for a number of my friends in the area. I much prefer the current vets at Memorial, especially Dr. Heibel!! Let me say that Memorial Animal Hospital gives me more than a "vibe" (his choice of description rings my warning bells as to authentic experience BTW) - they actually provide gentle, loving attention and care to my pets' health needs as well as careful, kind and detailed information to me on how to administer medicine and home care. When I had to put my last elderly dog down, they couldn't have been more gentle with Molly or kind and concerned. They gave me all the time I needed before and after. If one has to wait occasionally for a while, (which I find rare now that they have more doctors), I know it is because they don't skimp on the time they spend with pets who need it. At every vet I've ever been to (and I'm a senior), there are those who are good in different ways. Some seem to be better with larger animals, some have better rapport with the owners, some are better at diagnosing accurately and there are always the newbies who need more experience. This is just a fact of medical life for humans as well. So shopping around is necessary to find a good fit for you and your pet. Needless to say, fancy human decor is not on my checklist of what constitutes a good vet. I have not found the prices at Memorial to be exorbitant at all. Sadly, prices have gone up at all vet services due to supply and demand. Memorial is certainly cheaper than the vet in Stow/Kent! I am really suspicious of Eli's criticism of the support staff and his "laugh out loud" remark just adds to my suspicions of authenticity. If I was being treated badly, I wouldn't be laughing. These are extremely kindly people! They remember who I am, greet me with friendliness every time, (on the phone as well) and unless they are busy, are always willing to chat with me and all the other people who come in, from pet owners to delivery people. BTW, it has been my experience over the years that few dogs will drink water when at the vets, no matter how thirsty, they are simply too nervous. Animal Memorial also has a very nice online pages service through Pet Portal where one can view their pets' medical history, find helpful info, and make appointments, etc. So please, be suspicious of Eli's really nasty comments. I have seen this on other YELP reviews where it kind of looks like a rival business may be planting negative reviews to kill competition. My friends and I swear by Memorial. I would recommend Memorial any day. We've taken both of our cats since we adopted them and have been treated with nothing but respect. They were very quick to schedule and emergency appointment when our kitten was ill and sat with my fiance for 2 hours after diagnosing her with FIV. They know our cats by name when we take them for the appointment and the vets are incredible. Even though our cats hate check-ups and are very angry when they have to go, the vets will talk to them and make sure they are as comfortable as possible. I'm not sure why the other person had such a poor experience but we're always greeted with a smile and prompt help. The techs are very friendly and willing to do anything to make our cats as comfortable as possible. The room is not a "holding cell" but a check-up room similar to any doctor's office. It has chairs, an examining table and medical equipment. The building is a little old, so the decor is a bit outdated, but I'm not bringing my pets in to aesthetically please them. They're there to get well. Bottom line is that everyone is friendly and truly cares about your animals. I would certainly recommend Memorial to any pet parent. read more

Found Cancer on one pup, removed it with a reasonable fee which was under 500.00 including biopsies, 4 followup appointments and several after hour calls.Most of the staff has been working there as long as I been going----5 years. I can't disagree more with the above reviewer. We've gone to them for over 20 years. The waiting room is not plush--but it's clean and serviceable. The staff has always been very, very good to us and our cats. I've called them with emergencies and they've gotten us appointments quickly. The vets gave us options for treatments & adequate explanations. They've been very warm and compassionate with our pets. We recently had to euthanize one of our cats and Dr. Maglott was absolutely wonderful--empathetic, caring, efficient. The staff gave us plenty of time to compose ourselves in the room. We did not feel rushed. I'll continue to take our pets there and recommend that you do as well. read more

The nurses and vets were nice to our cats. When our cats got fleas, we went to them for some flea medicine. They gave us some, and our bill was expensive. After about a year of the medicine and house treatments not working, and them refusing to help us about an already empty spray can (for the fleas), they finally gave us a new brand of medicine that worked like a charm. Then, when we asked them about it, they said that the medicine wasn't working against the fleas anymore- they had just sold it to us to get rid of their stock! tl;dr: Although a few of the people there are nice, as a whole all they care about is making money, and not the animals. read more

My dog and I were just visiting the area for a brief time and he needed a visit to the vet. I found Memorial online and made the appointment. It was a great experience from check in to check out. My dog is a timid chihuahua and is not exactly cooperative with the vet. Dr. Maglott was so good with my guy. And in addition to the exam and prescribing medication for his allergies he cleaned his ears and clipped his nails at no charge! I would add that front office staff are also super--friendly and efficient. If I were staying in the area, this would definitely be my vet of choice. read more

We taken our 18 month old Golden Retriever to Memorial since she was a puppy, and we have found both the staff and vet's to be very professional and caring. When needed, we have been able to get an appointment on the same day. They have helped us not only with her medical needs, but also her behavior. She has had more than her share of rough spots, but the vet's and staff have been there for us at every turn. We absolutely love Dr. Heibel and trust that when we go to MAH, she is in good hands. Also, they charge reasonable rates for services -- even when those services are required same-day. We highly recommend MAH!! read more

I have 3 cats and take them all here for vet care. I've never had a bad experience. The staff are always welcoming, the vets are fairly knowledgeable, and it's affordable. That being said, I get the sense sometimes that the vets are a bit snobby. I was discussing one of my overweight cats with a vet here. I told her how I feed my cats pretty good dry food and have always tried to feed them the best food I can afford. Do I feed them the best dry food on the market? No. I can't afford 80 dollars for a bag of cat food. But, the stuff I do feed them is holistic, natural, and doesn't contain fillers or by-products. Anyway, she suggested I switch all my cats over to a wet food (and suggested Purina of all brands) or that I switch my cats to raw because obviously my cats are overweight because of the food they are eating. I told her that I would love to feed raw or wet food all the time, it's just not within my budget to do so. I also have a cat that's really picky about her food, and I am afraid that she would not take well to the raw diet. Instead of acknowledging my concerns, she just dismissed them. This was my vet.. My poor dog got very ill less than 24 hours before bringing her here, they did a few tests. She unfortunately had cancer and had to be put down. I cremated her and the bill was rediculously high. Checked with other local vets and read entire bill to them and they all said they charged me double than what it should have been. I quess they have to pay for the fancy building by ripping people off. WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN AND WILL LET EVERYONE I KNOW HOW AWFUL IT WAS TO LOOSE MY PRECIOUS DOG AND BE ROBBED AT THE SAME TIME. My Experience with Memorial Animal Hospital has, over the years, been quite different with another reviewer. I find the staff to be very friendly AND very interested in my pet's welfare. They have repeatedly seen us for followup exams at no charge and have called us after procedures to make sure my pet was doing well. In addition, when we arrived with a situation they could not handle there they did not heisitate to refer us to a specialist; something other vets I've been do won't do. What a fantastic staff! I have gone to MAH for more than 25 years, and have not had any difficulties. The staff knows me by name, and are always friendly and upbeat. They treat my entire family (including the furry ones), as long time friends. They are gentle, kind hearted, and genuinely care about pets, and their keepers. Their prices are reasonable, and there is not the usual mark-up on meds as found in other local animal hospitals. My dogs have had very long lives (19, 17, 16, 14 years old) due to their care and diligence. As Dr. Heible says, too bad dogs can't outlive their kidneys. When the time has come for my babies to leave this earth, I could not have asked for more concern, the staff has even cried with me upon their loss. They are the best clinic I have ever had the good fortune to deal with, and at my age I have dealt with many others. read more

I am very surprised by the negative comments in some of the reviews listed here. My multiple experiences at MAH have been wonderful with great care given to my cats. Contrary to other reviewers, the office staff was friendly, and helpful with no feeling of being rushed or ignored. The waiting room was spotless. I love that they drape a towel sprayed with some type of calming scent over the cat carrier as this was helpful in keeping my skittish kitty calmer. I feel like care was through, instructions very clear, my animals handled in a caring and gentle manor and the cost was very reasonable. With a pet family of 6; 4 pound cats and 2 dogs (pug and English bulldog) we wouldn't trust our brood to anyone other than the capable vets at MAH. The staff is always warm and friendly and always makes a big fuss over our babies. They never price gouge and go out of their way to save us money by not recommending unnecessary tests or bloodwork. Our pug has a heart condition and arthritis. The medication is less expensive at MAH than it is online. MAH has always been extremely warm and welcoming and even fits us in for last minute or emergency appointments. I've gone to this vet numerous times and have had good and bad. Unfortunately every time I've gone it's been a fairly expensive trip. The only doctor I liked was Dr. Maglott, he is wonderful. The others seem very insensitive. If I asked for lower cost alternatives to the "prescription food" I was basically given a sales pitch BY THE ACTUAL VETERINARIAN! It makes me sick that they don't want to educate themselves on alternative food/medicine for the ones that simply can't afford the higher cost treatments/foods. I have had small red flags along my journey with this vet but the final straw was when they sedated my cat WITHOUT MY APPROVAL. I specifically told them to call me before they do it and purposely didn't sign the sedation form. They didn't understand how this was an issue and still expected me to pay for the sedation fee.
