My family and I recently enjoyed a historical 90 minute riverboat tour on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in Memphis. Accessing the boat is not the most friendly for those that have mobility challenges. There is a flight of stairs to reach the dockside and then a short, steep sidewalk path down to reach the boats so this experience may definitely be challenging for some. (my mother held my sister's arm to steady herself as she did the walk down) Our tour guide (Laneer Smith was his name I believe) was absolutely amazing! He was extremely charismatic, funny, engaged with the attendees, and was a wealth of knowledge about Memphis and the surrounding area. Give that man a raise! Apparently he also works the evening dinner cruise as part of the band as well that this tour company offers. I learned more about Memphis and the bordering Arkansas area than I ever have from any other Memphis area tour I've done before. I genuinely had no idea Memphis sat right at the state line with Arkansas actually so there are times on the tour where you're actually in another state as you enjoy the mighty Mississippi around you. I highly recommend checking out the history tour if you can! Pro Tip - While there is no "official" parking lot we (and several other passengers) actually parked in the waterside cobblestone area leading up to the dock. Parking here is free and there is an easy ramp you can take that leads you straight down to this area. You'll see other vehicles parked down here as this is where employees on the water tend to park as well. (Make sure to turn your parking brake on though since it is at a steep angle) read more

Food was mediocre. Men's toilet downstairs was dirty with diarrhea spray. The chairs and tables were just cheap picnic table folds outs and our table was broken. But the band was very good so that's why I'm giving 3 stars. read more

The dinner & music cruise was absolutely not worth the price. You have to pay an additional fee to park in a lot that is a half mile away from the dock. The inside of the boat itself was set up with folding tables & chairs. There were cheesy colored lights that made it feel like a middle school dance. The band was good overall, but the singer was questionable at times. The crew was also very nice. The food was extremely disappointing & also served on a paper plate. I took my dad who was visiting from out of town because people recommended this company to me & I was extremely embarrassed that we wasted a night doing this. I do not understand how they justify the cost of tickets with the experience they provide. Maybe the historical cruise from this company is better, but I definitely do NOT recommend the dinner & music cruise. read more

The actual historical tour was very good. The gentleman who narrated the tour did an outstanding job. Our group of 10 Golden Sistas took the historical 90 minute tour. The deal breaker for us was the nightmare to get to the boat. The parking was almost a 1/4 mile away across from the visitor center. Our group was mostly senior citizens and going down the steps from the street level and the long downhill ramp to the boat was more of a challenge than we will ever do again or recommend to anyone. This is definitely not physical impairment friendly i.e. walkers, wheelchairs, canes should not take these tours. There was no parking in the boat area and drop offs were too much of a challenge. Until this parking and ramp situation changes we will not be back. read more

Although the weather was a bit rainy, the experience was great. Live music, interaction with the crowd, great bartender and the boat ride, itself was enjoyable. I would highly recommend. It was a beautiful night. The cons of the experience were actually getting down to the boat and the food. Folks, there has got to be a better way. The walkway was so steep and wet from rain, someone had to walk in front of me so I wouldn't fall. Also, the food wasn't great. I realize you are preparing for a large crowd, but I believe it would be better as an either/or menu. I do not eat chicken so that was a waste with both beef and chicken on my plate. So I went on the dinner music cruise with my 13 year old to celebrate mother's day and my birthday... **The two stars is for the band ONLY! They did an amazing job! The food was bad. I mean embarrassingly TERRIBLE! They slapped canned baked beans on a paper plate with EXTRA dry slimyish chicken breast, and generic boxed Mac and cheese, with an extra peppery pulled pork like substance on a Walmart bun.... The "desert" was hospital banana pudding. Nothing tasted good and most of our food ended up in the TRASH. The steamboat is old and rusty. And you're swaying from side to side. It's scary getting on from that super long steep hill. They force you to take pictures (even though EVERYONE has a phone). It is NOT handicap or elderly friendly. I've literally witnessed everyone over 50 struggling to get on. Cocktails are overpriced. Oh, did I mention the food was DISGUSTING! All in all, it definitely was not worth the money and I wouldn't do it again. However, I did enjoy the band and the sunset view. read more

Down here for vacation and ended up fracturing my ankle, didn't wanna miss out on the opportunity since we already paid and got tickets, and they were so helpful and kind helping me down with my crutches. then again helping me back up to the truck. I will say for handicap it's a challenge, big hill with rocks but if these fellers are there you'll be just fine! Bring money cause they deserve the tip!!!! read more

If only there was a way to get off the boat. Should have looked up the reviews first. We did the dinner cruise. Other reviews have said "at least the band was good." The band was not good. Off key most of the time. The food was something you'd get in a high school cafeteria on BBQ day. It was barely edible. Also the boat doesn't really go anywhere. I just leaves the dock and mostly stays between the two bridges (it did go under at one point). I did a similar riverboat dinner cruise in New Orleans. I don't really expect fancy, just decent. The New Orleans food was pretty good for a buffet and they at least cruised the river. Save your money. read more

Had a very nice and relaxing time on the dinner cruise. I laugh at those complaining about the "quality of the meal".....let's make this as simple as possible for those to understand. The dinner cruise tickets are $50.....if you're disappointed that you were not served lobster with your choice of cut of steak and the additional 3 courses that's on you for being that naive. Enjoy the views and the relaxing 2 hour trip.....if you are desiring something more 5 star I'm sure there are private charters along the river and for a few thousand dollars will be please to fulfill your dinner cruise dream. We had a great time...for all ages! Mr.Smith was our tour guide and he was absolutely amazing! I have no idea how he can memorize all the awesome history of Memphis he shared with all of us! His voice and personality made the tour seem so quick! We were never bored!! All the staff from beginning to end were all very pleasant! The vessel made you feel like you were on a real back in the day river boat which we appreciate!! The gas fume smell was a little strong if you sat in the rear, but we were totally fine! Make sure you read all of their directions on where to park, time to be there and definitely purchase the photo they take of you & your family! They have some decent snacks, nachos and hotdogs along with plenty of drink options! Make sure to bring cash so you can share the love!! Great experience and definitely worth tipping in my opinion! This was 1 of the activities for our family reunion this past weekend; we were so lucky that spending time together was our focus because this experience was not the best. Note::::: THERE IS NO NEED TO DRESS UP FOR THIS EXPERIENCE!!!! Wear jeans & tennis shoes, etc. 1. you have to park over a mile away at $28 per car (the website mentions a '10 min walk' - but that's 10 mins if you are in great health, walk every day for exercise & are used to walking up & down step inclines!) 2. the walkway to & from the boat is a dangerous obstacle course mixed with construction site! very unappealing & gives the feeling of a 'disaster waiting to happen'! You have to walk down a steep decline & up again at the end. Did I mention it was steep???! 3. THE FOOD WAS A WHOLE MESS!!! : definitely something they serve in prison (someone within our family who was with us verified that this food looks, smells & tastes like what he'd been served while inside!) The chicken was a boiled, tough, flavorless piece of 'leather'; the shredded pork was tough, unseasoned, over-cooked (NOT even the lame bbq sauce could save it!); the beans were straight-out-the-can : no seasoning & flavorless; the bread was stiff & had definitely been sitting out, uncovered; My suggestion to owner/proprietor --- DO BETTER, or serve nothing!!! My 2 stars are for the drinks, band, & the view : -drinks - they were great! Rollin... Rollin... Rollin down the river! And that's exactly what we did. Beautiful spring day in late April. Affordable. Lasted 90 minutes. It is good for all ages (we ranged from 10-75 years old.) This is a partially guided tour (he did take a break.) He was comical but informative. You will learn some Memphis history, about some Memphis folks and about modern day Memphis. You will cruise into Arkansas for a few minutes. You are not going to see a whole because across the river is plain land and forestry. It was a nice thing to do as a tourist. There was music so we danced a little. My daughter had the chance to hang out with other kids. At the landing it placed us near a modern playground. Overall the experience for us was well worth it. Excellent Cruise - Parking Situation Not Good We purchased tickets online before the cruise, but you can buy them at boarding time, one hour before departing. They advertise that there is no parking on site and direct you to park in a pay lot across from the Visitors Center located down the street from the cruise boat dock. When we visited the Visitors Center, they said we could park there for free and walk to the boats. The cruise boat website says if you have a person who needs assistance, you can drop them off at the boarding area near the boat. (Note: we saw people going on the cruise park right in front of the cruise boat on the riverbank and walk right onto the boat and nobody chased them away. Just sayin'.) Here's the problem. The riverbank by the boat dock slopes at a pretty steep angle from the street down to the water. To make matters worse, the bank is covered in cobblestones. Some drivers may not be comfortable driving on that angle and on the stones down towards the dock. Now once you get close to the dock, there is a concrete sidewalk, again sloped at a good angle, that leads you to the boat. The other choice is drop off a person at the street level. They would have to make it down maybe 20 stairs, then to the long sidewalk. Either way, this is not a good setup for anyone that needs assistance. I suggest you go drive and look at the drop off area first before buying your tickets to make sure you can handle it as tickets are non-refundable. The other consideration is for people parking in either the Visitors Center of the paid lot. It's a bit of a walk to the docks. Make sure you are up to it. As for the cruise, it's wonderful. Boarding starts one hour before departure time. There are three decks. The lowest deck has the restrooms (nice flush toilets) and a bar that sells snacks, some light hot food, beer, wine, cocktails, soda, water and more. This is an enclosed space that is air conditioned with tables and chairs. The second level, accessed by stairways on both sides, front and back, has many tables and chairs and has open sides allowing a nice breeze to pass through on a warm day. I did not go up to the upper deck, but I think it is mostly open. The bar is open right at boarding time so you can get drinks and find a place to sit for the cruise. Shortly before departure, a fine gentlemen starts talking on a microphone on the second level. He is the tour guide. He goes over safety concerns, some rules and starts the cruise talk. He does so for about the next hour, telling us all kinds of history about Memphis - the river, music, food, people, etc. The cruise boat first heads south, then turns to go north, then returns to the dock. All the while, the muddy and debris laden Mississippi River rolls on by. It is amazing. During the last half hour, our tour guide goes below and plays music recordings that made Memphis famous. We have been on several river cruises like this and this was one of the best aside from the parking issue. There is no doubt that you will really enjoy this. read more

My husband and I took the 2:30 pm sightseeing cruise yesterday. I thought the whe experience was excellent from start to finish. I ended up booking online the day before. All of the instructions and information is clearly spelled out. I recrived my confirmation email immediately after purchase and knew I had to arrive to pick up my tickets. It was $21 per adult (1 dollar fee included). Upon arrival I was greeted promptly and my tickets were already ready. There was a photographer who took your photo once you got on the boat. They tried selling the souvenier photo later in the trip for $15. I did not purchase it. There is a sml bar/snack stand on the main lever which sells beers, cocktails and snacks (hot dog, candy, nachos, popcorn). The prices were actually rather cheap. $5 for a beer, $7 for a cocktail. Better than some other local places and what I expected on a tour. The lady serving was friendly. Tbe boat had 3 levels. We opted to sit on the 2nd level so we were outside but had shade. We sat all the way in the back and thought it was great. The gentleman annoucing the whole time was funny and knowledgeable about the areas history. There were no issues hearing him as speakers are spread throughout the boat. I definitely learned some new facts and enjoyed the views out on the cruise. I definitely recommend trying them out if in the area. read more

Very disappointing dinner cruise. Meal was a BBQ sandwich, dry piece of boneless chicken breast, baked beans out of a can, macaroni and cheese and salad mix. Desert was a dry brownie with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Drinks are not included. These had to be purchased separately. However the most disappointing part of the experience was the cruise only went in a circle between two bridges. I would definitely not recommend. Total waste of money! read more

I can smell the muddy Mississippi when I look at my pictures of this cruise. Which I love. We took an afternoon cruise on the Memphis Queen Riverboat. It didn't go far or fast, but it did offer beautiful views of the skyline and bridges. The educational tour was okay. The music was too loud (I feel so OLD saying that). It had lawn chairs and basic tables. It was not comfortable or classy. Not our favorite boat cruise, but it was our first time on the Mississippi. read more

The band was great(blues mixed with oldies) and very entertaining. The food was good, not great, but good. The crew was courteous and helpful, boat ride was smooth, the lights of Memphis and the bridges are very pretty at night. The only drawback was the city of Memphis has the area of Riverside Dr adjacent to the dock in a mess, which makes getting to the boat(s) a bit challenging, but that's not the cruise company's fault. Unbelievable experience out on the river today! Learned about marking twain, the bridges of Memphis, Tom Lee, and took a brief detour into the state of Arkansas. Jordan, our tour guide, felt like a combination of Samuel Clemens and The Rock, regaling us with tall (and true) tales of the Mississippi while also hammer curling a boat anchor and arm wrestling the Eighth Graders in our school group. One pro tip: Do NOT tell Jordan you're a Bears fan. If you do, he will make you curl the boat anchor too, and it is HEAVY. Also, jury's still out on whether the paddle wheel is actually propelling this vessel. After a quick examination, I suspect submersed propellers are doing the real dirty work here. Though, for some purists, this might raise questions about whether our "riverboat" is actually what it claims to be, anyone who actually embarks on this vestige of the river's past will accept that a voyage with Memphis Riverboats is an encounter with the spirit and history of the Mississippi itself. For this reason, and for Jordan's biceps, I give this boat tour five stars. read more

Last night my boyfriend and I attended the Memphisriverboats - "Valentines Day Cruise." We rate our overall experience 5/10 and here's why... 1. The wine package I added to our tickets was said to include a "special table cloth" (in addition to 1 bottle of moscato and 3 balloons) which turned out to be a wide piece of ribbon which ran along the middle of the table. 2. The food was not the proper temperature and did not include reasonable portion sizes. The Alfredo, brisket, and mashed potatoes were cold. Also, the portions were so small that we left the cruise hungry, and ended up spending more money on another meal. This was very disappointing due to being one of the first couples to eat as well as paying over $60 per ticket. 3. The live band was entertaining, however, the volume was so loud that it was impossible to hold a conversation right across the table from each other. 4. The pictures that were taken of us prior to boarding the boat were low quality for the price of $15 a copy. 5. The cocktails were good and the staff were polite. However, I don't feel as though we received the experience that we paid for due to certain details. Due to the high ratings on social media and the description on the website, we expected more of this "Valentine's Day event". I would recommend this activity for a day time excursion versus an important/intimate evening. read more

I booked a reservation with them for the Dinner Cruise for the hubby's birthday. The process was was pretty smooth. I just went on their website, chose my date and time, selected my additional package (birthday) that came with a table cloth/balloons/sparkling grape juice and of course dinner. For dinner there was a buffet that included spaghetti, pulled pork, corn, baked beans, slaw, and peach cobbler for dessert. The food was good. I enjoyed everything. I loved that they had a live band. They kept us engaged and dancing all night with the perfect blend of music from rock to line dancing! We also had a chance to experience the light show on the bridge. It adds a cool element to the experience as well. The boat is not as aesthetic as I had in mind. Maybe a few updates would help make the experience even more intimate. They should really consider it. But, overall we had an awesome time! Tip: We parked down on the riverfront and had to walk a long way to get on the boat (OMG). That was something else, but I guess you just have to be prepared. Ride gave us an opportunity to learn a lot but the area and see different views of the city. Ps...don't plug the address for parking in your GPS it doesn't take you there. The cruise only goes from one bridge (the old one) to the other (the new one). Because the river current is strong it takes longer to go upstream. So total travel time is 1.5 hour, pretty much close to the dot. Folks were still boarding right at the departure time. But they were pushing back 1 minute after the designated time. There are no signs in front of the Beale Street Landing complex. It looks like you can park there, but when I asked the ticket seller if it was ok, he said it's for handicap people only and we could get towed. Even though I didn't see any handicap signs anywhere (I double checked too). The street parking in Memphis downtown is $1.50 per hour. But on weekdays you can only book 2 hours at a time. That's potentially a problem because the cruise is 1.5 hours. There is a paid parking lot at 210 Wagner. You can buy 1, 2 or 4 hours, at more than double the street cost. 4 hours is $12 plus tax (yeah I know - tax?). 2 hours is $6 again plus tax. You can also pay by text or their app apparently, so there may be a way to buy 3 hours. I'm not sure. Text P2706 to 504-504 ("premium parking" is their name) to pay by text. But I didn't have my phone. So I paid by credit card and bought 4 hours. On board they sell food. Pretty reasonable cost. If I recall correctly it was like $3 for hot dog and nachos with cheese or cotton candy, $2 for small bag of popcorn and sodas (in cups not bottles), $0.50 for suckers. Pics they take of you are $15. They encouraged folks to tip the seller who was apparently off to college next month. At the end of the cruise the tour announcer also asked for tips and stood at the exit with a tip jar. During the trip the announcer came over and put his drink on our table without even asking us if someone was sitting there (which there was by the way as we had a party of 4). We rearranged our table to accommodate his drink and my daughter sat on my wife's lap. And there his drink remained for almost (about 85%) the entire trip as he wandered about the boat. They need to get a place for him to put his drink, rather squeeze his way onto the customer's table. So if you sit at the table in front of the announcer's swivel chair on the bow of the ship (second floor) be prepared as that may happen to you. The cost for the trip is $20 for adults. I thought I'd save money by paying in person but in reality it's the same price. They still add that $1 "fee" when you buy in person. They take credit card but no receipt because they do the payment on their phone. read more

Hey folks, wanted to share our expertise on the Memphis Riverboats dinner cruise. My family booked the Memphis Queen III . We looked forward to a pleasant evening journey, briefly transiting along the Mississippi while we enjoyed dinner and music while we watched the shore drift by. Positives: A decent picnic-style dinner (plated by the staff, not a buffet) and pleasant live music. Crew offered to take photos of guests with guests' mobile phones -- nice touch. What needs to improve; the Captain navigated Memphis Queen III to the center of the river.,, and we stayed on-station (motionless) for over an hour. Weird. Our sister boat which departed the dock at the same time meanwhile navigated past us, went down river by over 2 miles then returned to our position and transited past us. No indications of our boat having mechanical issues, no announcements made. When I asked a boat's crew member why we were not moving, he replied that the river was congested, and we were awaiting tug boats to pass us. He suggested I was not familiar with how river traffic worked. Odd explanation since the other pleasure boats were moving past us through out the evening. I suspect the Captain and crew were more interested in saving fuel costs than providing a boat that moves. 20 minutes before our scheduled return time the Captain found the throttle and we returned to our pier. When we returned to shore I spoke with a passenger from the company's other river boat that returned just before we did: she confirmed their Captain transited the river by several miles, and provided his guests with a far better dinner cruise experience. Overall the evening was disappointing, but points to the live band (good music) and customer-facing crew for doing their best. read more

I have another table that doesn't sit in the aisle but you have to take it now. No there is no butter for the bread. I didn't know it was bad service no one has ever said anything. I heard the wine was served with no cups. Really??? Let me first clarify, I do not believe these antics to be sexist or racially motivated but plain ole bad management tactics. Charge high and serve low, is the philosophY here. The cabin was heavy with tables so everyone was packed in like sardines back to back and in the aisles, but not all the seats were filled. The bathrooms weren't temperature regulated so they were freezing !!! Just shy of $200 and we got screw off cap bottle of wine (an upcharge) dollar tree balloons (upcharge) Walmart sheet cake for dessert, cold Walmart dinner rolls with no butter. Clear plastic dollar tree cups to go with the screw cap bottle of wine. Runny mashed potatoes and dry pork loin with no pork alternative offered. Bagged iceberg salad mix. Buttered noodles. That's what you get for $200 When talking to the person in charge one excuse after the other, says no one tells them www at went wronng in their experience. I'm not buying that. This was not a cheap venture but the experience was of poor quality. Value is perception but at least give the illusion that you tried. This was not an honest effort to do the best service possible. I've been on a lot of boat tours, especially recently, and this one gets three stars for delivering what was promised and nothing more. Having learned from past mistakes, we arrived an hour early for the 2:30 tour in order to get the best seats. We sat in the sun on the top deck. The chairs are cheap plastic and barely comfortable at best. The spot you grab will morph and change as people move chairs all around the deck regardless of where you are sitting. Ugg. Also, smoking is allowed on the top level, which I didn't expect and was disappointed about. While cruising the Mississippi, the last thing I want to do is breathe in second hand smoke. And "cruising" is a bit of an overstatement since you basically go a mile in one direction and back in the other. There are no great sights or breathtaking views to take in on this cruise. Regardless, being on the water makes me happy so I can't say it was a terrible experience. If you are out for a daytime tour, bring sun screen if you sit outside. It's hotter than you think out there. The guide, while nice and engaging, talks the entire time, never leaving you a moment to relax and sit back. He is knowledgeable but extremely rehearsed. This boat could use some TLC from the multiple spider webs, to chipped paint and the not so clean bathrooms. They do offer snacks and drinks for a very reasonable price. We got a water, cocktail and nachos (chips and cheese) for $11. All food and drinks can be purchased on the ground level and they accept cash and/or card. For about $24 for an adult rider, it's an average price for a 90-minute cruise but since there aren't any great sights or picture opportunities, you are basically just on a boat on the Mississippi. They do take photos when you get onboard and sell them for $10 a piece. We skipped this option but a lot of people/groups took theirs home. People of all ages from newborn babies to grandmothers were on board. There was also a 40th high school reunion on board and they were having a lot of fun. Overall, if you have a lot of time in Memphis, you might want to try it. Otherwise, I would skip this boat ride. read more

We took the dinner cruise which was $50 pp. This was an extremely subpar meal served on a paper plate and they ran you through like cattle. The tables and chairs are old and dirty. The band was ok not excellent, but they did a good job. The parking is literally a 10 min walk, which in my opinion is NOT acceptable or safe when you're returning your customers after dark!! My best advice save the money and take the cheaper afternoon cruise if you're just wanting the experience or spend your money elsewhere. read more

The tour guide was funny and kept the energy level up for the duration of the tour. Since it was very hot out, he didn't really spend any time on the second our third levels. The first level ?air conditioned) was packed. The very slow boat ride was fine but rather uninteresting as far as the scenery. Overall, a pleasant but not memorable experience. read more

Dinner food was horrible. Pulled pork was so salty it was inedible. No desert of any kind. And the bar selection was miserable. The boat didn't leave the dock until there was maybe 30-45 minutes left due to high winds (not their fault) and all we did was go up and down the same 1/4 mile stretch. We completely missed a decent sunset due to delays. For $50/person I at least expect a stale piece of cake for desert. The band was okay. But we'd have been better off at any of the places on Beale where the food, beer, and bands are all better for way less money. read more

This was only my second time in Memphis, so we wanted to check out some of the local attractions! Having recently done one of these at the Chicago River, it left some things to be desired, mainly there wasn't much to see while on the river. There just hasn't been that much built on the TN side of the river and nothing on the AR side. Despite the lack of views other than the Bass Pro Pyramid lol, the tour guide was a lot of fun and it was enjoyable to hear more about the history of the city. We took our niece and nephew who are 9 and 7, and they may have been just a bit young for this. It ends up being quite a bit of time if you get there early as requested. It would have been good to bring some cards or something to help pass the time as we waited about an hour to leave the dock. They had a good selection of drinks and snacks to keep them occupied though. We appreciated the opportunity to learn, and it was fun when the tour guide also played as DJ with some tunes! read more
