It's all set up in the old farm, obviously, so the buildings have all been converted and done out to accomodate the entertainment room etc. The have two swimming pools, inside and out which are good. The outside pool has a cool flume slide. They have a shallow boating 'lake' with a load of boats. When we went there was a trampoline room which popular with our kids. The childrens play areas are fairly dated and could have done with a lick of paint, however we did go out of season so things may be spruced up for the next new year. They have some apartments if you don't do camping. It's definately worth coming down to stay, especially for the carnival which is absolutely awesome.

The restaurants were fantastic (apart from Huck's, the food was cold here), with Strada being a particular favourite. Being just the two of us we spent some time in the spa, which although expensive, was very relaxing and got us into the holiday mood. We stayed in a Woodland lodge and I belive it is worth paying the little bit extra for this, they are much better than the comfort lodges.

Although we've been here at all different times of the year, we love coming here in the winter because after dark is when the place really looks its best - the path lights twinkle through the trees and the plaza dome looks like something from outer space! Swimming outside in warm water or heading down the rapids when it's dark and freezing cold is surreal, and even just watching is amazing - the steam rising off the water into the crisp winter air is magical. The only thing that stops me from giving this place five stars is the price - it's not the cheapest holiday, especially when you factor in eating out, activities and all the shops that you have to get the kids past on the way to and from the swimming pool!

Despite the freezing temperatures outside the hotel was warm and inviting. Large spacious rooms with full central heating, many with views over the city. Spotlessly clean. Our hosts were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was excellent and included croissants, fresh fruit salad, toast with various spreads available and of course full english cooked breakfast. More expensive than some in the area but otherwise hard to fault. Would happily return if visiting Bath again.

The main necessity, a large, comfortable bed. After settling in we decided to venture down to The White Lion. A 'pub style' venue with a outside patio area that allows non-residents to enjoy. Again, with that wonderful view of the bridge. Fantastic service from the young staff who, obviously, are very well trained. Having my normal double vodka it arrived with no ice. When I requested some ice, a pint glass of ice arrived. The young lady placed it on the table with a smile. After a while it became a little chilly so we opted to visit the Clifton Lounge within the hotel. This lounge is residents only. A wonderful comfy lounge. The mixologist on duty that evening certainly knew how to make deliciously dry vodka martini so, I admit, another followed quite swiftly. It was delivered to the table by a young lady who asked 'do you need ice?'. I love professional service especially with a little humour. After a very restful night, breakfast. A wonderful tasty, and filling, breakfast. Once again, with very professional service. Almost silver service. A perfect way to start the day. Two small comments which certainly do not distract from this five star review, just comments. The car park could be surfaced and spaces marked out which would then accept more cars. Also, my partner remarked that the room must have been designed by a man as there was no lit mirror with an adjacent socket for the hair dryer. It probably is as well; you get the feeling that everything is a little richer here. They've used their location well, and you can get a perfect windowside spot without too much trouble. Go in the evening and enjoy the spectacle of the suspension bridge all lit up. Or try the morning when you can have a long meditative cup of coffee. Come early enough (or just book yourself in and come for breakfast) and it will be blissfully peaceful at this time. The Avon Gorge Hotel is at the high end of high end and is an elegant location to take a drink or get a nights sleep.

They all have great pools - the kids love the rapid runs snaking outside. Make sure you book your activities early to make sure you get the slots you want - on our latest visit we competed in badminton and pool tournaments, sampled archery, dared to face the aerial challenge including the zipwire over the lake, got splatted at paintball and relaxed in the aqua sana. We have come home for a rest. Accommodation is decent and staff friendly - the grounds are well kept and yes there are lots of hills here. Manageable without a car - only a short trip from Warminster Station. Its a bit like a visit to waitrose in a forest...lots of guardian reading middle class parents struggling to cope without mobile reception.....Already planning our next visit......

The room was as you'd expect for a 3* hotel, clean & comfortable; there was a bit of a draft was coming through the window though. Secure parking is available at the rear of the building at £6/day.
