I was absolutely mesmerized by all the beautiful quilts. There were a few featured artists and their work was absolutely amazing. They have everythng displayed so beautifully and because it was not too busy, there is a certain comfort level here. I saw incredible patterns, colors, stitching and in some cases, mixed media. I have never really paid much attention to this art form and found out just what I was missing. I have some pictures of the overall quilt then close up where you can see the incredible stitch-work. When you come, make sure you visit view the "wood quilt." I could not believe what I was looking at and they have a small sample that you can actually pick up and view. They explained that during their annual show / convention they have upwards of 30,000 people visiting this museum. Quite the feat in a town that has a population of 26,700+. Their gift shop / supply store also seemed pretty robust and I'm sure that many people get their hard-to-find supplies from here. I could not recommend this museum enough for a visit. This was right across from a hop-on hop-off stop, but nobody mentioned it and I almost missed it. They have a pretty diverse array of items on display ranging from old artifacts of the civil war, old police memorabilia and clothing a furniture from the last century. Overall, a very interesting and well documented collection and deserving of more attention. The staff person was extremely welcoming and warm and made me feel right at home. If you have just a few minutes to spare or a bit more, take the opportunity to check out this little museum. It is the in the middle of the Market place and it looks for all the world like an old train station. You need to enter on the second street side.

This was not a very big museum and I took sometime outside to walk around and take a few photos. This museum like others we have visited in the area was was fascinating. It is a robust collection of items and stories from the docents about the war, items during that period and relationships of the people in the area. While spending time here we all learned so much about Paducah's role in the war and saw many interesting artifacts. Weather or not you have an interest in Civil War history, this museum is worth a visit. We all learned so much history that we were not familier with and it was honestly facinating. The museum was not to big or crowded and really added meaning to what you have heard of in school or just general conversations.

They (the cruise line) have their buses follow the ship up so when ever you dock, they set up a hop on, hop off bus route. One of the stop in Kentucky was Paducah which had a stop in front of this museum. A prior review called it sprawling. Not sure I would use that word but it was a nice size with plenty to see [and touch.] From the second you walk in you see lots and lots of items. Not being a railroad buff, I do not know the history or use of many I the thing I see here. In one corner there is a engineer's simulator, showing the controls of the engine and what the engineer's view would be. Also there was one very long model railroad in action. I always enjoy expoloring the scenery used and how the multiple trains [when they're used] interact. Within the venue of the museum, in cabinets and on the walls there are displays of post cards, posters, news clippings, and magazines. Personally, I enjoy looking at the old photos. There is, of course, a gift shop with the usual items. Some are educational and some are for fashion and fun. All were very reasonably priced! Volunteers who run these places do it for their love of the subject. The person behind the counter started telling me stories of the area and railroad in general. When in Paducah for a recent weekend we decided the Paducah Railroad Museum was a must-visit. This Railroad Museum is kind of sprawling, given the space it's located in. There are several room and A LOT of railroad memorabilia and signage. Some of the signage is hooked up as a demo and some aren't. Some of the first things you see as you enter are vintage railroad furniture dating back decades. Looking at a seat from a dining car from the Good Old Days of Railroading give me a sense of nostalgia for a time that I wish I'd been around for. In one corner there is a engineer's simulator, showing the controls of the engine and what the engineer's view would be. We didn't get to step in, but I understand that it's an option. In one enclosure is an amazingly well done model train. I've attached a pretty nifty video I took. At this scale you wouldn't know it was a model (yea, I'm that good. :) ) On display are post cards, posters, news clippings, and magazines dating back, in some cases, 100 years or more, celebrating the way railroading used to be. Since I've always been fascinated by trains and tracks, this was very much a museum I could visit often (if it weren't about 3 hours from home) There is, of course, a gift shop with the usual bobbles and trinkets. Some are educational, some are for fashion (I'd never own a neon green t-shirt until I visit this place!), some are straight up souvenirs. It's all very reasonably priced. There's a feeling of "unfinished" at the Paducah Railroad Museum. Is it as polished as some larger railroad museums? No, it's not. It's a work in progress. In one room there is what I assume to be another model railroad being built and a few displays that aren't quite ready for Prime Time. And that is OK. You can tell that this museum is constantly growing and improving, and that it's being done by people who have a genuine love and passion for railroading. I hope to visit here again some time when I have more time.

We saw a write-up in one of their local newspapers about the museum being on the property here and…read moreseeing the graves of the unnamed soldiers and it specifically talked about one grave in particular that is simply marked Confederate spy. So we came here to check these things out. Even though we were here during the hours they had posted the museum was closed. One of the groundskeepers says that the lady that runs it is on vacation but then later in my conversation with this person he said that the museum is now in the downtown area and no longer on the ground. We also asked him about the tombstone that is supposed to say Confederate spy and there is no such thing.
