I have reviewed it on Yelp before, but…read moreits evaporated so maybe it's as well Yelp aren't asking what I think of Yelp and if they did it's at two stars now due to two things - not enough words are allowed for detailed reviews and vanishing work. I think this airport is wonderful and the staff who work very hard are marvellous but we pass through and I don't know if they Rio folks off like Belfast's two airports. On arrival we were met by police despite travelling internally within the UK - Belfast being the departure place, so go figure. If I had to guess it's the risk of undesirables crossing the Irish border North going into UK by the back door is why. They were polite and fast, processing everyone promptly. The luggage was out fast and it's a two minute walk to get a taxi and £26 to go from the airport to the main seaport to pick up a cruise. We booked the same taxi service back and it surged a great. All done automatically as they link the journeys so when you call to return you just hit 1 and a taxi is dispatched. Similarly return dropping luggage is relatively easy security a courteous breeze and there's a Starbucks. I'm sure there's also a lounge but we couldn't be bothered as we hadn't long to wait for our flight.

With rooms on three floors, take the stairs and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the elegant sweeping 18th century Adam staircase; on the walls - of the first floor - you'll discover memorabilia dating back to the time of the original owner, Admiral George Murray, who served with Nelson. Bedrooms are sympathetically restored, with an unobtrusive modern touch, in warm neutral tones. There's a flat-screen TV on the wall, comfy chairs to relax in, a good supply of quality wooden hangers (although only wall hooks, rather than a closed wardrobe) to hang your clothes on and a sleek, efficient kettle together with tea and coffee supplies to prepare hot drinks with. The bathroom is simple and white, comfortable enough (and very clean) with courtesy (ginseng-enriched) products. Rooms still use a traditional key system and have a name as well as a number. I was concerned that sounds from the (quite noisy) old-fashioned, gate-style, lift might be intrusive but happily that wasn't the case. Views from my window (at the back of the hotel) were of buildings and the car park with verdant hills in the distance. Reception staff were efficient, smiling, helpful, welcoming and obliging. Well-deserved of its three star rating; decent value (even better if you get a special offer deal) and a very pleasant, convenient place to stay in the centre of Chichester and for access to other parts of West Sussex.

The building itself is part of Chichester history, and has been sympathetically restored. Rooms are decorated boutique-style, in gentle colours with plantation blinds and suede accents, and amenities include a flat-screen TV, drinks tray, and lovely toiletries in the bathroom (which had both shower and bath). As well as the rather grand staircase, there is an old-fashioned lift (the sort with a sliding gate). Staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast included a full English along with a buffet of pastries, meat and cheese, cereal and fruit. This was eaten in The Place, a brasserie at lunch- and dinner-times; there is an adjoining bar with open fire.

Our room overlooked the harbor, we could see the Queen Mary 2, and it was quiet. There were binoculars in the room that were fun to use! We were on the 5th floor so during the day and evening we could hear the chairs and furniture scraping the floor in the rooftop bar (on the 6th floor). Not terrible, but next time I'd prefer not to be on the fifth floor. The bed was comfortable but oddly the comforter barely fit the bed - we had to sleep in the center of the bed because the comforter was not wide enough to reach beyond the edge of the bed when we weren't in it. There cannot be an outlet in the bathroom by law, so using the hair dryer was also a challenge. There is a big full length mirror near the bathroom, but no outlet nearby and the hairdryer cord was not long enough. Fortunately there was a nice makeup mirror in the bathroom I was able to move and could prop up on the tissue box on the desk to see my hair while I dried it. Keeping the makeup mirror on the desk (where there is natural light) is a good idea because the lighting in the bathroom is terrible. Loved the chairs and colors in the room. Plenty of closet space and drawers. There is also a snack closet - look for the price list! We ate at the rooftop bar twice. When we arrived in the afternoon we had drinks and a pizza - both great! Jon was wonderful & helpful! We came back for breakfast the next morning. The buffet was perfect for me - the overnight oats were delicious as was the yogurt (very tangy) and fresh fruit. Hubby had some buffet items and eggs Benedict which he enjoyed. We would definitely stay here and dine here again!

We asked if possible to move and were given a nice table inside by the windows.

The inn feels like an old ocean liner from the early 1900s without the opulence found later. Some of the rooms are named after former ocean liners, and thus named the White Star now for England's most famous line, owners of the Titanic and many others, now called Cunard. We had a delightful dinner. It has a pub atmosphere but a bit more upscale as a restaurant or tavern. To celebrate we got a bottle of the sparkling wine from Kent. It was quite good and went well with the meal I ordered a pheasant croquette on a bed of peas and Brussels sprouts. It was excellent My main was the chicken dish which was very well prepared and delicious. The sauce was good and the preparation better than expected for this type of establishment. The portions are substantial and I was quite full and unable to have a dessert. The waitstaff are cordial and really hustle when the crowd appears. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the wine selection, but the quality is good.
