Mercado 20 de Noviembre is the market place. You can have delicious food grill meats and chorizos tortillas and salsas. Bread made daily. Several places to purchase Local Mezcal. Anything you need you will find it in this Mercado. Herbs, chilled , Quesillo aka Oaxaca cheese. So many vendors and merch to see it's amazing . In the city's downtown area the Zocalo. People are super nice and very friendly. When visiting is a must see part of the local community and culture. To all the tourists Be respectful of peoples traditions, food and resources.

This was a unique dining experience that is really customizable if you can handle the chaos. I think the true Pasillo de Humo was under construction when we went, so it was moved outside. This actually made for a more pleasant dining experience, because the smoke was not a strong. But the second you enter this area, you are bombarded with 10 people shoving menus in your faces and trying to get you to sit at their spot. We could've been more strategic, but we said yes to the first person we saw. You pick your meat, you pick your accompaniments, you pick a drink. You pay for all of them separately, so don't be surprised if you get multiple bills. The food was all incredible, and once we were seated, it was nice to eat and people watch. I can't say I'd recommend the experience to vegetarians, but for any carnivores, it's a must-do in Oaxaca.

Woahh, a food mecca in Oaxaca. Uploading these pictures take me back to the sights, sounds, and smells of this wonderful market. Loved walking around as stalls operators invited us to join. I feel like you can't go wrong with any of the spots here. Incredible vibes, food, and service.

If you look for meat markets, this is the one. Not just meat market but also the grilled meat market. There is a section of the food court has all the grilled meat. The food smell is tremendous with great BBQ smell. Probably stick to your clothes. The grilled meat included popular skirt steak, sirloin, sausage and more. It has different marinate sauces. We enjoy our lunch here. Not easy to find seat. Very popular. The market is not too small. It is mid size market. Mainly food market and flower. Love the tour. But for is the grill meat.

Food is excellent. We sat in a comedor to eat because we didn't want to eat from the "aisle of smoke." There's so many options here! If you come in a group, everyone will find something they like! Service: there was one lady who was selling juice and smoothies who was extremely rude. She actually told us that if we didn't speak Spanish then we could leave. We didn't let that energy bother us and kept enjoying ourselves. There's so many people walking around inside and outside. It's crowded. I would recommend coming here and seeing everything that this Mercado has to offer.

My favorite place within this market is the smoke hall. I came here back in 2019, and then again today to purchase some real cooked beef. Carne asada to be more specific. I purchased 200 grams which consisted of four large pieces of carne asada for 80 MXN. I think the last time that I was here it was $60 MXN. There are at least twenty vendors who all sell the same carne asada, and variations thereof. I noticed another store that included pork with carne asada as part of their promotion. I also purchased 200 grams of pure chocolate made with cocao. I realized right after I tried a small piece that I made the same mistake as last time. This chocolate is un-sweatened, and it does taste rather bitter. The merchant told me the other type of chocolate that is sweet includes almonds, which I did not want. This market is filled with all sorts of restaurants and smaller stores that sell specialty food items. The market is unique and festive and I love it here.

Really great experience! It was a Sunday and most of the restaurant booths we walked by had several people eating. We decided on a location and ordered what we saw some others eating. The clayuda (open faced quesadilla) was so good - I love the Oaxaca cheese, all the toppings and the beef. The tortilla is homemade, a little different than what I'm used to in diff parts of Mexico but it was good. So many food choices in the Mercado and so many other booths to purchase bread, seasonings (for mole) and other things.

We ambled around this market for almost 5 hours today. The photos are just snippets from the abundance of produce, fruits, beans, herbs, flowers Meats, fish, poultry available here. Some of the stuff I saw I had no idea what it was but I had a local guide to fill in the blanks. The locals shop here, they can buy furniture utensils kitchen ware, gardening supplies, absolutely everything. It is unbelievably cheap and of course the freshest of the fresh. Many stalls cook amazing food that you can buy or try. It's outstanding. The people working on the stalls are so helpful and friendly and are eager to help. We loved it here. Bring good walking shoes and a shopper bag because you will buy stuff. It's just an epic experience.

This market is a must visit when coming to Oaxaca, especially the smoked meat market area. When you wall through the area, everyone is shoving menus in your face so you eventually choose 1 and sit down. You order and pay for drinks from 1 person, order and pay for sauce to another person, and order and pay for meats to another person and pay for tortillas from another person. It's a great experience. The meat area has many displays of meat and it's smokey. We ordered cecina (beef), chorizo, and tasajo. My favorite was the cecina. Tasajo was salty and chorizo was good. Overall, this is a good market to get any kind of food.

Comedor Cantina, one of the beautiful (and tasty) kitchens at Mercado 20 de noviembre

This is an incredible spot for local great cualitativo food. It is a popular an affordable spot, where docena of small kitchens compete to attract their clientele around tables directly connected to their ranges. This place offers a comprehensive compendium of what the Oaxaca cuisines offer in their popular levels. And that is a lot. Join one of the kitchens and just indulge yourself to eat what they have to offer. You won't be destapo Inter. They are all good. The design of each of the kitchen beat the previous. Mexican popular design traditions are beyond sophisticated. I wish chefs in New York would learn the power of design from the chefs from Mercado 20 de noviembre!!!

    Meat alley

Unlike Mercado Benito Juarez, which has lots of souvenirs and goods, this market is more focused on food. The highlight is without a doubt... MEAT ALLEY. It's just a row of grilled meat vendors (all the menus are strangely the same though, let's get some variety going!) $5 will get you a basket of meat. It's a bit hectic and you pay separate people. You pay the meat vendor, then you pay the beer waitperson, then you pay the tortilla lady, and then you pay at the condiment counter. There are several long tables to sit down and the beer wait staff should help you out (once you get your meat). Everything is really cheap but just a bit hectic to figure out all your purchases and fees. The meat is pretty good but I wouldn't come back here more than once. It was definitely a memorable experience but Oaxaca City has too much amazing food to spend all your time at Meat Alley.

    Tlayuda
    Sal S.

My 1st meal here in Oaxaca, and I had to order the biggest thing. This is called a Tlayuda, just one of many specialty foods here in this region. It's a gigantic flattened tortilla, burned to almost a crisp, and it had beans, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, queso de Oaxaca, and your choice of meats on top. I chose mystery meat #2 on mine. You can get it open like I did, or closed like a quesadilla... this thing was massive !! I will not order this again... ok... maybe.

Closer look at my Tlayuda topped with squash blossoms. The best.

In the middle of town and in the middle of everything. This market specializes on restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. On the one side you have the comedores (diners) with the waitresses calling out to each passerby. They are counter restaurants serving all the delicious local dishes. On the smaller side of the market is Pasillo de las Carnes (meat alley aka: smoke alley). Meat grilling on charcoal sensory galore!! You choose your meats, condiments and drinks all separately. All so good. The vendors there will help you out if you get confused. Super great experience and everyone is happy you're there so they are all welcoming. Bring cash only.!

We arrived early so many of the stands were closed. The Mercado lacks variety. Most booths sold the same items.

As a frequent traveler to Mexico who doesn't care for Mexican food (I know - go figure...), I love that I have options here. It's pizza for me today but it could be sushi tomorrow or a burger. My only critique is with the lack of a traditional hostess to seat guests, it can be tricky for guests to figure out how to order. When you visit, have a seat. A server will offer a menu with selections from all of the various kitchens. Then sit back and enjoy the ambiance!! The market upstairs may feel a little pricey compared to other markets, but I don't mind paying a bit more to support the little guys - especially when it's super cool stuff!!

They…read moresimply reheated cooked meat sitting on the counter in styrofoam containers and put it in the tacos. My tacos al pastor and gringa al pastor were inedible. The meat was so dry it was like chicharrones or beef jerky. No pineapple or cilantro and the tortillas were dry as well. The women's bathroom had no paper towels or soap and a sign was posted asking customers to flush toilets with a bucket. I'm not at all surprised that I woke up with diarrhea today. The ticketing system is also illogical. A server takes your order for any of the storefronts, and then brings separate bills for each restaurant, some of which require different credit card machines. We had 4 tickets from 4 different restaurants and had to pay on 3 different card machines. I should say the the food from Xha Mama and Wi's Burgers was OK, and the cocktails were delicious. The tacos and ticketing just ruined the entire experience.
