I had heard from my Spanish tutor that it was a great market for shopping for souvenirs so we popped in as we were walking by. We stopped by later in day (around 6pm), so some of the stands had already shut down for the day, but I could see how extensive and amazing it would be midday (maybe even a little overwhelming for people who don't love crowded spaces or who get decision paralysis when there's too many choices and things to look at). Now having visited, I agree with my Spanish tutor - it's a great market for shopping for souvenirs (jewelry, glassware, silver, etc.). It's really large and really fun to explore. This is a great weekend market. There are a lot of clothing options for younger women. I've gotten…read moresome great flats here. There is also really great food options. We get lots of fruits and veggies here every week. There are also vendors that sell doraditas and gorditas de nata, which are really great sweets that I have not found anywhere else. I was even able to buy some inexpensive handmade furniture. The vendors are very nice and less pushy than in other markets.

It doesn't seem as busy and it feels more like Mexico than many of the urban areas. This market is a part of what gives the area its charm. Because coyoacan is the home of Frida Kahlo, Coyoacan is known to be home to many artists. While I didn't see that on a Tuesday afternoon, I hear the weekends and nights are more lively. This market full of local vendors, but a lot of what's here is touristy souvenirs that aren't cheap. Was considering rating this 3 stars as I couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy; however I do think it's an essential part of the local flavor
