This market has practically everything that you could need. It's broken up into. You won't find too many different clothing options here. The restaurant section probably has about twenty five small mom-and-pop restaurants, with each one specializing in different Mexican dishes. Walking past these small restaurants definitely gave me the urge to eat something. There are also a few candy vendors, which is where I found the mazapan treat, as well as, a couple of small coconut treats. They were delicious and jist what I needed. The market is about four blocks away from Alameda and metro Hidalgo.

Few to none are English speaking but it is easy to negotiate and purchase. We bought several objects and a piece of art. Some are true antiques, vintage, and collectibles. Some are replicas and housewares type items. Very good market and worth going to spend a Sunday morning couple to few hours.

The market is filled with tons of stalls offering everything from pottery, clothes, jerseys, shoes, jewelry, kitchenware, and home decor. You can spend a good amount of time walking through the aisles since there's so much variety. It's a good place to find gifts at different price points, though you may notice similar items across multiple vendors.

I had heard from my Spanish tutor that it was a great market for shopping for souvenirs so we popped in as we were walking by. We stopped by later in day (around 6pm), so some of the stands had already shut down for the day, but I could see how extensive and amazing it would be midday (maybe even a little overwhelming for people who don't love crowded spaces or who get decision paralysis when there's too many choices and things to look at). Now having visited, I agree with my Spanish tutor - it's a great market for shopping for souvenirs (jewelry, glassware, silver, etc.). It's really large and really fun to explore. Well worth exploring if you're in the area.

There were some also great books about Spain and Portugal that piqued my interest as well. John Sistiaga's Purgatorial was a toned down brief version of the actual novel. They got booked stacked all the way to the ten foot ceiling and they even offer a ten foot step ladder for those who would be dating enough to try to use it. All of their collections are used, and they do a good job categorizing and sorting everything out for the viewing public. The only downside to this bookstore is the lack of seating. I noticed a sing chair. That being said, it's not the type of bookstore where you would want to hang out.
