They have a preset menu or a la carte. The preset menu changes daily and is posted on the backboard on the wall. Today's included an appetizer of quinoa with fresh tomato and onion with a carrot sauce and plated with leaves of arugula. For the main course, a rice medley of beans, raisins, carrots and almonds on a cabbage leaf with a cup of lentil soup and a kibe with roasted vegetables on a skewer lightly salted. It was all quite tasty and very filling. We all had freshly blended fruit drinks and finished the meal with a selection from the barista (all the cafe selections are great). Plus spend some time perusing the market which has everything from hand crafted clothes & shoes to enamel covered kettles to speciality food items.

My only complaint is about the price, I find it too excessive, even though it's obviously supposed to be on the more exclusive side, going to eat there and spending 100R$ is a bit too much. I would recommend this place for a coffee or a small breakfast, but definitely not for lunch or dinner. Maybe for buying one or two exotic or just better quality products but never for buying essentials.

Zizi Bistro was the only spot I could find that had a tasting menu selection. There are 3 options…read more You can do the regular tasting menu which is whatever the chef comes up with, you can choose 5 options from the menu to do a tasting menu or you can do a vegetarian tasting menu. Personally, after eating at L'Arpege, there's no way you could beat the vegetarian tasting menu from a 3 Michelin, top 15 restaurant in the world. So, I obviously did not choose the vegetarian one. Seeing how my girlfriend and I arrived around 10:45 pm, we didn't want to sit around for too long for the other tasting menus so we decided to go a la carte. We split a Bruschetta appetizer with salami on top. I honestly thought there would be multiple pieces of bruschetta but it was literally one piece of french bread (granted it was a decent sized bread) completely covered with tomatoes with 4 slices of salami on the top. I ended up cutting the bruschetta in half to let my girlfriend try it. The taste was very good. I only hoped that there could have been more. For the main course, my girlfriend got the duck while I went with the octopus. The waiter said that the duck was cooked medium rare unless otherwise stated so my girlfriend finally succumbed and went for a meat that was medium rare. My octopus plate looked very appealing and was very good. Not the best octopus that I've ever eaten but it was still very good. The duck on the other hand was a different story. The duck was served on top of a pasta that contained very little pasta sauce. I tried a piece of the pasta and it was over butterred which is disappointing. A simple tomato sauce would have sufficed. After recommending medium rare for the duck, the piece that my girlfriend gave me was between medium and well done and was chewy. The duck itself wasn't cooked properly as the middle of the duck breast was cooked to medium while the ends were overcooked. This was extremely disappointing. Duck has the potential to be a great dish but could also be destroyed by poor side dishes and improper cooking. In this case, the side and way it was cooked bombed. By this time, we didn't want any desserts and I asked for the bill. I inquired whether they accepted American Express and the waitress said yes. When the bill finally came, I gave her my Amex and she said that they didn't accept it. I then asked her why she told me that they accepted Amex and she said that she never said that and that I didn't understand her reply because I wasn't from the area. After crappy service like this, I will lash out. I then looked at my girlfriend, asked her if I had asked if they accepted Amex. My girlfriend said yes. I then asked her if this idiot waitress had said yes to which my girlfriend again confirmed. The waitress then started giving some lame apology. I then pulled out cash and didn't tip her. I will NEVER come back here again. First they mess up a duck dish and then the wait staff has the balls to critize a customer for being a foreigner. That waitress needs to lose her job for being incompetent.
