My first time visiting Catholic Charities Thrift Shop near downtown Fresno today. I have not gone…read morethrifting in a long time. I have some special (to me) items that I want to donate but I wanted to see the shop first. Everything was very nice and organized and items were displayed well, and treated respectfully. I could tell the staff takes a lot of pride in their work. As one other reviewer shared, this is also a store that is serving the community. While I was there I observed the staff providing clothing and other items directly to those in need, (via a voucher -so all very well organized). I made a small purchase and the check out team carefully wrapped up my 4 glasses to ensure they made it home safely and I was very touched by their kindness. I hope others will consider shopping here and also donating their treasures to Catholic Charities. I still have quite a few things from my parents home that I have had a hard time letting go of, but after visiting, I feel the items will be appreciated and handled kindly and may help make a difference.

I understand the…read moreprocess to receive food can take all day because it requires waiting in line for a number early in the day, then returning later in the day when the number is called and people receive food. That seems like it would be very impactful to people's lives, if they need to spend the better part of any given day to receive food. That means a 20% loss of potential time to find work for the week. And even more than that because they may miss calls or otherwise be unavailable to attend to jobs business from previous applications for the better part of a day. It also seems like a lot of time in transit to go back and forth twice from home to the pantry, unnecessarily polluting our air from exhaust from combustion engines in vehicles and power plants where electricity is generated, not to mention the cost for gas and maintenance or vehicles for people who cannot afford it. It seems like a raffle where names are randomly selected from the list of people who have registered online in the morning would be a better service to the customers but I guess the implication is that these people's time is not important because they are not working and they deserve to wait in line for hours during cold mornings, standing on cement. At least there is shelter from the awning for the first people who arrive but the others bake in sunshine. Often the later people to arrive don't even wait in line because there is no room to actually do so, so they wander around the parking lot. Compared to the competition, I hear this is a food pantry but still lacking in services required for humane delivery. I won't even start to share the rumors I've heard about how badly people are treated by some staff and some volunteers, as well as people dropping off food. Suffice it to say that there seems to be an 'Us and Them' phenomenon going on amongst providers, despite their sometimes apparent good intentions.

The volunteers pick up the donated foods, pack them into boxes, then help load them into cars. All the volunteers were friendly and welcoming. Upon driving up you can't help but notice that their building is HUGE! It's as big as a Costco! Tons of trailers were docked getting filled up by the many volunteers. They even had a Amazon trailer at the loading/unloading dock. There were approximately 30+ volunteers. We all gathered at the picnic tables inside the warehouse. Coffee, Tea, and snacks were provided - nice touch. We all worked together to load many boxes of food that were sent on a rolling conveyor belt with volunteers all along it. I was a team of 2 that stacked the boxes on multiple pallets before a forklift driver whisked them away. It was so awesome to be apart of. If you ever have a chance to volunteer please do so.

Central California Food Bank does great work…read more Their website states that they provide food to over 70,000 households on a monthly basis, and have seen a nearly 50% increase at all distributions since the COVID-19 pandemic began. I've donated food a couple of times through Official Yelp Events, collecting via a food drive and taking it down to their distribution center. The staff were very friendly and helpful there. I also donate cash as and when I can, and have received calls to say thanks from them as well as letters with updates about the help they're providing. They are also holding regular drive-up food distributions at the moment -- click through to their website for more info. I think they're a really important local non-profit which is doing great work, especially during this trying time.

This is a adult day program for adults with disabilities is a horrible place to have your loved one…read moreattend.. The staff neglects the clients who are the disabled adults and since they cannot speak up for themselves they are being taken advantage of. While staff are transporting clients in the company van the staff is texting while driving the clients around. Some clients wear diapers and need to be changed at the day program and staff neglects the clients by not tending the their needs and leaving the client in the same diapers all day in the soiled diaper or underwear. If you have a loved one that is disabled in any form please don't have them attend that program, stay away from that horrible place. That place has received alot of bad publicity.
