But whilst talking to someone after Leeds West Indian Carnival he recommended the hotel. 'you know the owners. They used to own that delicatessen near your house.' that did it. I temebered the nice couple whohsed to serve Goyer cheese and salami. I also got my favourite polish caramel sweets from there. So i booked and got a lift there within half hour. They were welcoming and as friendly as I remembered them from 1972. Booking in was so good My bags were carried upstairs and i was wished good night. I watched tv for half an hour then settled in the cosy bed with pretty flowered bedding. I slept through till 7. A rarity for me. I felt at home.Breakfast at 8.30 was a wonderful experience in a spacious restaurant. I had a spoonful of each cereal and the milk was brought in a small jug. Personal service making me feel special. Toast was brought in on a plate and tea in a teapot. My breakfast was well cooked and on an oval plate.they asked if everything was ok, did I need anything else. I was even offered another pot of tea in case the other was cold. They took time to have a conversation when I said I used to buy ham salami and cheese from them. I Mentioned my favourite sweets too. I then went back to bed for half an hour. The other staff were as friendly as the owners. They allowed me to watch tv and charge my phone in the lounge though it was past checking out time. Everyone was So calm and relaxed. And someone even send them some flowers. All in all it was a wonderful experience and i can't wait to-do it again.

The room did have a fan in it which was nice, but man was it noisy. In addition to being noisy, it would not stay pointed in the position you aimed it. And it really seems like they really want you to leave it in the area it is in as there are no other plug locations in the room, except the one behind the TV. Ideally, we would love to have moved it closer to the windows to try and distribute the cooler outside air. This leads me to the next annoyance, the windows. We wished we would have been able to open them up more but they only open about an inch, no exaggeration. I understand it is probably a safety thing, but come on, give us a few inches. Enough about the climate of the room. The room had a nice large TV, but several channels didn't work and kept getting a weak signal message. We often times don't watch much TV when traveling but turned in early our first day from being beat by jet lag. The bathroom was nice but was starting to show some moldy spots on the ceiling. The room did its job but for the price could have done a little more.

Let my wandering shoes totter on down to the Village. Well the clues in the name. It's a hotel complex but it's a big Bertha and has plenty of stuff on site for lots of reasons to go there. You don't have to just want a room. Probably one of the main ones is the health and fitness centre. We're talking high quality stuff here. All your latest equipment, very well maintained and a very nice 25 metre pool as well. If exercise is ever going to be fun (not likely) then this makes it as fun as it can be. After you've felt the deep burn you can then work off all the good you've done with a great grill or have a quick coffee in the café. Oh or even the pub. It's actually too easy to spend an entire afternoon there. If you do want to stay over then the rooms are great, spacious, nicely decked out and all the mod cons you'd expect. It's not cheap but with so much to offer it's got to be up there for great places to stay or work out at.

Pros: - Property - beautiful, picturesque, well maintained. - Amenities - the Stable Pub is fantastic, great food and beverage selection. The breakfast was also incredible, traditional English breakfast with plenty of selection for everyone. - Price - very reasonable for a nice facility! - Staff - great staff at the desk and Stable Pub. Took great care of us and responsive. The manager in the Stable was great and made us feel at home. Cons: - Room - incredibly small. While comfortable and had basic amenities, but our room was very small. The bathroom was also very basic with the smallest shower I have ever seen. The amenities are nonexistent. The soap was a squeeze bottle mounted to the wall with the shower having a combination "hair/body" wash. - Air Conditioning - fortunately it wasn't terribly hot but found the air conditioning in common struggled to keep things cool. This was common in all areas including the wedding and reception as well as Stable Pub. The room had a potable fan because there was no air conditioning. We weren't in the room during the day but it was warm at night. The beauty and staff at the property made it great. The facilities are very nice but be forewarned about some of the idiosyncrasies. I'd recommend but likely ask for a bigger room and a bath with a tub and shower.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Weetwood Hall Hotel following a wedding which was held here…read more To do this properly, I'm gonna have to split this into wedding location review and hotel review! So, as a wedding venue it was really good. It was actually my first wedding so I don't really have anything to compare to, but the service was streamlined and lovely - a special highlight was the bride coming down the isle to a wonderful acoustic version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow - it felt like a Wes Anderson film! But everything went perfectly smoothly, all of the staff were excellent and there were no hiccups whatever. The meal was probably a 4/5, but I didn't really care by that point! The evening entertainment was basically a not huge dancefloor with some decent pop songs and a few random awesome choices (Crazy Crazy Nights - get in!!!). So as an alternative to a church wedding, this was rather excellent. Now, from the 1:30pm start, the night went on and on after the scheduled entertainment, into the bar area and reception area until maybe 4-5am for a couple of us. One thing that we benefitted from was the presence of other random guests staying at the hotel who hadn't been there long and so still fancied a drink when most had gone to bed! For this, the bar selection was pretty decent. Lot's a variety in the spirits department, and a couple of good draught drinks - I was mostly on draught Budweiser, which I don't see very often. Also, at £3.50 the price could have been a lot worse! Anyway, the room was clean and spacious, with a really big, comfortable bed. Breakfast was surpringly awesome as well - a couple of different types of sausages and hash browns for example for a bit of variety. Of course, I couldn't finish what I'd started and had to go back to bed for an hour before leaving, but all in all it was an excellent experience, and one which I'd love to do again. Oh and they have both giant Jenga and giant Connect 4 in the garden - and who doesn't love them?!?!

What severely lets it down is the appalling breakfast experience. The mushrooms tasted of cheese, the hash browns were rock hard and my poached eggs arrived undercooked and raw. Don't even get me started on the serving methods though. Food is served in antiquated metal food trays and customers take them off and are forced to pile them up to get to each section. This is truly a surprise after such a great experience until this point.

It is just a short 10 minute walk to the city centre (a nice straight road too so there is no way that you can get lost, which I have a tendancy to do). If you don't fancy a walk to get something to eat, there is a TGI Fridays underneath the hotel which is great. The hotel is relatively cheap (if you book in advance) but can be more expensive if you have a last minute trip. The only bad thing I really noticed was the fact that you had to pay for the use of the internet. Breakfast is not included but at £5.25 for an all you can eat buffet, its not half bad! Overall I thought this was a great place to stay and great value for money!

I was hoping for an inn with some character. The Villa has that. The hotel, as Ariela M. mentioned in her review, impresses more from the road than within. If anything has been done at the Oak Villa since her 2009 review, I couldn't see it. The interior is firmly stuck somewhere between 1979 and 1983. Dusty rose colored bathroom fixtures, pretty unpleasant patterned utility carpet throughout, and the stiffest bed that I've every slept on (imagine a pullout sofa bed where you simply cannot avoid sleeping on one of the support bars). The feel was very "flophouse-ish", The flat screen television would only play internet radio, and the rumor of limited wifi was just that. Breakfast was standard (but not full) Engilsh and served hot and quickly. Cold cereal options were available for those inclined. While it didn't impact me, the serving time seemed short (this may be no more than my limited experience with British B&Bs) and would have annoyed me if I was traveling for business. On the pro side, the Oak Villa is on the number 19 bus route, and is an inexpensive 10 minute taxi ride making it easy access to the train station. I can't recommend the Oak Villa as it stands today. Equally far from awful as quite good, a little effort to freshen the facility would go a long way to making this a great place to take your ease.

A couple of weeks before she came up, I went to the Oak Villa Hotel to get a quote for 2 nights. Set back from the road, yet right on the corner of the 'mini roundabout' at the Cardigan Road/Victoria Road junction, from the outside it is an impressive and large old building. The house, teamed with the grand name choice raises expectations, prompting those approching it to gear themselves up to be blown away by a truely awe-inspiring, aesthetic triumph upon entry. Too much? Perhaps. But to be honest, the reality is a bit of a let down, and sadly verging on the polar opposite. Privately run, I entered a gloomy foyer, with a small bar on the left with a few men local men curiously sipping on their pints. Greeted by a timid girl, who appeared to be lurking in the shadows I asked for a quote on a 2 night stay, she then vanished for 5 minutes, leaving me to hover in the entrance hall. The decor and furnishings were ever so dated, and I couldn't help but feel that the place really could have done with a facelift. When the girl eventually returned she said that the owner was away, and that they would call me later to confirm a price for the 2 nights. Sure enough, later on I received a phonecall, and at about £20-£30 a night (bed and breakfast), I booked a room for my mum. When she stayed, I went to her room. Perfectly acceptable, her room had a dresser, wardrobe, single bed and a kettle. Unlike some of her other lodgings in Leeds, there was a communal shower/toilet area, but due to the fact one person could use it at a time, and the fact there were few other guests made it technically her own en suite, as it was just next door to her room. Durning her stay, the girl I mentioned above was the only other person my mum saw, other than a couple at breakfast (which the girl cooked herself). This beckons me to ask whether the owners have entrusted this girl to run their hotel, without giving her the freedom to set quotes, and really have a say in what is going on with the business.. The prices, though very reasonable, seem changeable and 'haggle-able', depending on the customer. Although perfectly comfortable, there was something I found incredibly eerie about the place, despite my mother seeming content and unphased by the entire experience and just grateful for a bed!
