Despite asking to see briefs PRIOR to them being filed with SSA or the court, I only saw briefs AFTER they had been ruled upon. My final brief, for instance, was filed in AUGUST. However, I never saw that brief until I received the final notice of denial and closure of my case yesterday/ And that brief only covered my mental health and did not include the degenerative spinal issues I have tht impact all of my quality of life. So my attorneys completely betrayed me with a lack of communication and transparency. Perhaps it wouldn't have changed the final outcome but we'll never know because they didn't consult me or do what I asked so I could offer input during the process. I would never recommend this firm to friends or colleagues. How would I even know what work was done on my behalf if no one shares anything with me until the judge or SSA rules on it? I had no idea what was being said on my behalf and that is cmpletely unnacceptable. I'll be filing a formal complaint with the Bar Assn. Maybe it goes nowehre but at least it will be on record.

It was for a nominal half hour consultation (which he offers through…read morethe Omaha Bar Association) but it went for more than that, as he asked intelligent questions about my situation -- I didn't even have to present the letter I had written to explain it. An employer had apparently bungled badly (if not worse) in a situation, involving a disability on my part that led to temporary problems, in which I was involuntarily dismissed. We discussed options frankly and discussed what was possible under my budgetary capabilities, and came up with a plan whereby I would address the employer proposing a rehire (since my manager and I were very close) and if that was denied from the company organs, who had bungled, then I would take "the other step." I appreciate the willingness to do that, because it is the moral and ethical way to go. Sometimes lawyers get a reputation for merely being "sharks" but this is not always fair. Used correctly and with conscience and with all reasonable steps taken first under advice, they can be an invaluable resource. They can give you confidence to try to do the better thing, knowing that competent backup is present in case that falls through.
