A lovely little rose garden among the churches and apartments of Evanston. It's a nice little area best visited in June when the roses are in full bloom. A nice stop if you're in the area. Did a quick walk through (like 5 minutes) but there were others strolling through and there are some benches if you want to sit for a while. read more

I lived there it is like an English garden. I had to park my car there to walk to busy Ridge where my apartment was. There is a sculptural fountain here with an outstretched bird's neck spouting to the sky which can be seen from the groomed grass half block to the end surrounded by artisan crafted stone wall to sit on and picnic and take off your shoes. it is quiet and across from a church. I moved and this is a blessing that this was by my first apartment, nowhere else like it. Rose garden runs behind your back on that wall and you can walk among them. read more

Merrick Rose Garden is a lovingly manicured garden tucked away in a neighborhood in Evanston. I've driven in and around this area for years--literally over a decade--and never knew it was here. But a block from Ridge, you'll stumble upon a very peaceful place. It would be a gorgeous location for a special event. As I was walking around it and taking in the garden, I was actually imagining just how a wedding could be set up in the sunken portion of the garden. Around the garden are many benches around the outer perimeter, both stone benches and wooden benches for visitors. Like many rose gardens, there are some other flowers here as well. There's also a large fountain, the Centennial Fountain, on the southern edge of the garden. It would be nice to have a celebration at this garden, but I would be happy to simply visit and enjoy the sights and sounds. This isn't a park to play in; it specifically says you aren't to bring balls to play with so it was truly designed as a contemplative place to be appreciated for its beauty. The only parking here is street, and it has some restrictions at times, so pay attention. read more

It's important each day after fighting stress or being swarmed in a sea of mediocrity to find islands of calm and beauty. The park is tucked a couple blocks from bustling Evanston down town surrounded by stately mansions, and old large apartment complexes. It's a stones throw distance of NU and the screaming serpentine L. It is smallish and well appointed. I can't think of anything finer than sitting there with my dog and a tea watching the sunset and moon rise. Reading there on a sunny day, a mystery or gothic novel by the roses isn't too shabby either. read more

I give five stars here because it is a seriously pleasant surprise in the middle ( ok, south part of) Evanston. It's not huge ( 75 yards by 40 yards best guess) but it's incredibly well cared for and very pretty. A breath of fresh air for a walk with my better half Tresa , after a really nice meal at Oceanique. Many species of roses in various hues, clean walking patches and benches to rest on. I'll be stopping by any time I pass. Oasis for the hectic life....ie: mine :) read more

This lovely, tranquil rose garden will transport you back to Victorian England. At the right time of day, the only sounds you'll hear will be birds chirping, the fountain, and your own footsteps on the gravel paths. There are all sorts of roses, many of them labelled for easy identification, and benches for sitting. I might suggest the addition of a groundcover between and beneath the roses or perhaps a mulching. It's a great place to sit down with a cup of tea and a good book. read more

The Merrick Rose garden is a hidden gem on the North Shore. Come during the summer for beautiful solitude with some of the most magnificent roses you will ever see. The garden is manicured and a great place to visit. read more

This park is wonderful. It is a large rose garden that is maintained meticulously all year round, especially in the spring months before it's blooming time in summer. The only big bummer is that dogs are not allowed, a rule that I break frequently unless there are other people there. I do understand the rule - probably don't want dogs sprinting through and tramping/peeing on roses - but the middle of the park has a wonderful and separated grassy space. Still think dogs should definitely be allowed on-leash. Generally this is an awesome place to have in the neighborhood and the roses are awesome when in bloom - so many varieties! read more

I have always loved this rose garden, since I lived in Evanston about 15 yrs ago. It's on the SW corner of Oak Ave and Lake Street. I can't believe only one other person has reviewed this quiet beautiful rose garden. Maybe tree huggers don't write yelp reviews? Maybe it's listed under a different title that has more reviews? Anyway, it's across the street from a big brick church and maybe half a block long. It's maintained every day, it seems. They even rake the pebbles. Beautiful fountain, benches, lots of rose bushes. Some roses smell great, and there's a nice variety in colors. I've taken great rose photos there. A must see if you want low key serene nature to read, meditate, or journal. It's southwest of downtown Evanston, so a nice treat if you live in the area or visit Evanston now and then. Dave's Rock Shop is another cool place to visit in Evanston while you're there, in my opinion. read more

This garden is absolutely beautiful. The maintenance guy keeps it so well groomed that even in October you see full bloom gorgeous roses and perfect green grass. The fountain is soothing and creates a wonderful backdrop for photos. This is a terrific spot to relax in Evanston. read more
