In March of 2019 I hired Mescher Home Inspections to visit a 15 acre horse ranch acreage near Winterset on which I had a pending offer in place. Iowa Realty Company had recommended this inspection company. I met the inspector at the home at the agreed upon time and I walked all over the property with him as he inspected the wiring and plumbing and insulation in attic and garage door openers and furnace and air conditioner and well water pressure tank and windows and doors and gutters with downspouts and sheets of the steel roof and drains from all sinks and flushing of all toilets and current/ground for each electrical plug and switches for all over head lights and ceiling fans. The inspection fee was based upon the square footage of the home and the fee to inspect my home was about $395. He filled out a multiple page computer printed inspection checklist with detailed comments and gave it to me. He did find some serious and expensive defects that the seller later agreed to repair. Even though I have been a part of the construction of dozens of homes and buildings over the years...when buying a home it is good to get a good third party to evaluate the house...someone who has only their reputation in the game. I am hours away from the home being inspected. I felt Mescher Home Inspections did a good job with lots of pictures and explanations. When I asked questions there was good follow-up.
