The Perfect Way to See Dallas from 1,500 Feet Low & Slow…read more My Friends and I wanted to do something different, so we thought getting in a Cessna and seeing Dallas at night would be cool. AND IT WAS! The three of us travel a lot for our jobs and fly in and out of DFW so this would be a bit different perspective. We arrived at Addison Airport and were greeted by our pilot Alex. Alex did a great job showing us the preflight and all that goes into getting a Cessna ready. Alex did a great job showing us around the aircraft during the pre-flight and explaining why an airplane is not like a car and you cannot just turn the key. I sat in the back, because I fly Cessna's I wanted to let my friend who had never been in a small plane sit at the controls. I am going to go off on a tangent here; the rich got it made with the whole flying private! Okay back to my review! We were buckled in and started taxing around 8pm. So it was going to be a night flight for sure. Right after take-off, we were flying over Dallas Love Airport. It was cool to see a Southwest 737 landing right under you. We flew over to Jerry World and Rangers Park; it was a perfect day to fly! Visibility was great. As we were flying over to Arlington we could see all the aircraft flying into and out of DFW. We then turned towards downtown Dallas. To see the skyline up close and all light up is amazing! My photos do not do the actual experience justice. As we worked our way back to Addison we flew over The Star in Frisco and Plano. So think about this real quick the next time you are stuck in DFW traffic; we flew from Addison to Arlington and back with time to do some circles around Frisco in under an hour. Try that that in your car! After we touched down we thanked our pilot for a great tour. We went home and reviewed our photos from a great time! So here is why I would recommend Starlight Tours. 1. If you have never flown in a small Cessna before this would be a great reason for you to. 2. Perfect way to show DFW to family and get some cool points. 3. If it is just amazing to see DFW from the air. 4. Try to do your flight on a clear day during sunset. I'm sure that would be amazing! Our night flight was cool, but sunset would be awesome! So there you go! Because I am a pilot, I will end by saying if you have a kid that is interested in flying. This would be a perfect way to show them what flying is all about.

We started off with fabulous didactics! Touched upon spin drift, wind, mirage, and a crash course on Applied Ballistics. Then climbed the tower w/ all the gear. Confirmed zero at 100. Garmin Xero for velocities. Adam's Kestrel for atmospherics. It was a deceptively beautiful day to freeze! Mirage was there. Wind was strong and super fickle just like your fave IG model. The cold northern wind was absolutely mind numbing! Frozen fingers. Frozen mind. You ain't training if it's not freezing! Thankfully not raining or hailing! Made some good hits! Missed a bunch at distance because of me; not the equipment! (Could've used the tutorial before Jack Reacher, but will have a new angle for my next Mission Impossible....shhh.) He explained everything clearly, especially the safety rules and proper handling techniques, which made me feel much more comfortable and confident. The class was well-organized, safe, and very enjoyable. Chris gave clear instructions, helpful feedback, and made sure I understood each step before moving forward. I attended the first class of 2024 here at the school. Although Chris will prepare you for the ADX…read moreand Practical, I don't fully recommend this school. When I went through in January of 2024, I experienced Chris talking bad about the previous school he taught at (IFOD), as well as, talking bad about previous students (whether it was the student that left the first week because he was "on his phone", or because they failed the practical after Chris signed them off to take. Chris also cusses in class, is sarcastic, and also jokes a lot in class. The final week, I told him I hadn't studied and the next day he kicked me out. He went into that class and from another student, I was told that I had "left on my own and he may or may not issue a refund." He interrupted me when I was trying to explain why I thought something, and he didn't seem patient in trying to allow me to learn a certain subject. Chris also tracks previous students that attended his class, and sees if they got their DX certificate at another school. Chris also stated he wasn't going to play tricks in the mock oral, but that was a lie. If you want a militant style classroom setting, choose another school. If you want a "high school" type setting, go here.
