Just a few examples: 1) Before I had insurance and was paying all out of pocket, he did work on a tooth. Only one year later, he said the work was old and needed to be redone. I had to tell him that the work was only one year old. 2) Three times he took x-rays that insurance did not require or request. When insurance did not pay, he billed me. After talking with my insurance, I refused to pay him. 3) I needed information from Dr. Harmer for insurance purposes regarding work that he had done on a tooth. For whatever reason, I never received the information from Dr. Harmer or his office manager (his wife, who is there only part-time).

He has had a sore tooth for over a month , but we had to wait for our insurance to pre-authorize the crown. We get a call today that they never got a pre-authorization. I called our insurance and they never received a prior authorization request. The dentist office said it was a technical glitch. Now, they want us to wait another 30 days or come in and have it fixed and hope the insurance covers it. During my conversation first with Jessica, the comment was made that this is a "courtesy that they do for us", but it is our responsibility to contact our insurance company for payment. I have never heard of this before for dental insurance. I asked Dr. Elkington to call when he had a moment. I just got his call and he came on very defensive from the go. I was trying to say, that my husband should not have to wait another 30 days for a crown and he said then come in. If insurance denies it, you will have to pay. I can't see why they would deny it, when his tooth is cracked. Patient care should not be about the bill and more about the pain in the tooth. I was shocked at how he was acting. I mentioned that I never was rude, when I drove down from an hour away and my appointment was cancelled, (due to an emergency in his office). His comment "well next time my worker has a stroke...I will make sure to call you first." Very unnecessary and so unprofessional.

It's generally recommended to get a cleaning/check up every 6 months. I like to go every 4 months based on past dentist's recommendations. However, as an existing patient, the next appt they had available was 8 1/2 months out. Stop accepting new patients if you can not handle the ones that you already have. It's a slap in the face. It's also a zoo when you go in there. It's very hectic and I've never seen the same hygienist more than once. They also have an annoying habit of pestering you. For example, I had a 1pm appt. I was parking the car and at 1:01pm I get a call asking if I'm still coming. However, on multiple visits I've waited in the lobby 15 minutes past the appointment time to be taken in. So they are fine with making you wait but 1 minute late on your part and it's an issue.
