I received a quote for various metal tubes and plates, square, rectangular, flat bar etc. The quote I receive was insanely expensive so I removed some metal from the order which didn't leave much. I had just moved to NV from CA, the cost of metal in CA was far less expensive. The prices I received from Metal Supermarkets I was thinking I'd have to give up on metal working due to the cost of the metal here. Fortunately I found another supplier and order twice as much metal and it was still far less in cost than the quote I received from Metal Supermarkets with less metal. Metal Supermarkets is way over priced. Shop around before you go here as the money I saved going elsewhere I can continue with my metal working. The metal I purchased at the other supplier was good quality and many were cut to size and I received much more metal for far less in cost. I'm not sure why Metal Supermarkets is so expensive, there's no difference in metal and cutting from the other supplier I went to except that's it's much cheaper, a lot cheaper. I would like to know why Metal Supermarkets charges outrageous prices. read more

They tell me my material will be ready at 3:30 pm. I wait 40 mins, I show up at 3:20 and they don't give me the material at 4:10 pm. I ask for 18 g material galvanized the guy give me 20 g , he said he tell me day before he will give me 20 g, Galvanized, I pay by phone the day before. I don't have a confirmation, to show him, he give me 2 sheets 8 x 4 18 gage, and 1 Angle 20 g 8f long 4x 4 If I am asking for 18 g 8'x4' why I will ask for 20 g angle. Next time I should ask for a confirmation. I just paid over $140 just for an angle. read more

Third rime I have placed an order with this company because they USED to be great Last 2 times they require payment upfront and then promise the parts will be ready within 24 hours and say they will call. Twice I have not heard from them and have had to call to check on order status The first time I waited until almost 5:30 for 6 sheets of metal to be cut (simple enough right) this was after they had 2 days to prepare and cut the order after taking payment before they would start The last time the employee answering the phones told me they would be ready for pick up tomorrow and if I didn't hear from them by 12 to come in (basic 3/4" flat bar) When I arrive I'm told they did not call me (2:15) and that it's my fault I showed up After arguing with a paying client about whose fault it was he rudely hung up and said it would take longer now! Not only did he cut the material to length immediately but when he saw that I work in his neighborhood, he offered to deliver the material to me at work the same day! Dave saved me an hour of commute time and went far and above anything I could have hoped for. He is the BEST sales / customer service person I have ever encountered. MSLV is a fantastic for anything and everything you could ask for when it comes to metals. They have lots of options for a ton of projects from raw material to prefabricated stuff for gates & railings. They pretty much have anything you could imagine. They are less than Home Depot or Loews when it comes to everything steel. I use Air gas for welding supplies and they recommended me to these guys, so glad they did!! Other local steel supplier only carry structural steel in bulk or Aluminum but Metal Supermarkets carries everything steel from ordinary to out of the ordinary shapes, grades and sizes. They will serve you in a pinch if you need basic drops or a sheet cut to size. They also get 5 stars for their super cheap prices, they are also always open to walk ins and super helpful. The guy I spoke to on the phone said that they close at 4pm. I got there before that time and the door is locked with a note on the door saying "we're open and call this number" which, I did and no one answers the phone. I live 30 mins away and this is the second time I came here and they completely wasted my time. read more

I would not recommend this place. I ordered sheet metals to be cut, when I went to pick them up they gave me less than half of my order. When I understandably got upset because they were halting my work from being finished the guy behind the counter started making excuses, when I told him I didn't need to hear his excuses he said "I'll cut the rest right now, chill the fuck out". Very unprofessional, they don't take responsibility for their mistakes and they're very rude to their customers. read more

Extremely overpriced and unprofessional. I order some steel and was told I could pick it up later in the day. I called later that day and was told it be available early the next day. I called the next morning and was told it wouldn't be ready until later that day. By that time, it would have been too late for my project so I asked them to cancel it and refund the money. The Manager told me that there are no refunds and that they'll let me know when the order was ready. I explained over and over that it's too late and to just refund my purchase. She was steadfast in telling me "no". I eventually contacted the corporate number (it's a franchise) and the guy told me he would contact the store and instruct them to refund my money. I'm a reasonable individual, so I knew it would take some time for the refund to appear on my bank statement. After a week, I contacted the corporate office again and he then informed me that I need to contact the store again in order to get my refund. This "round robin" way of doing business when your prices are 3 to 4 times the cost of others is terrible. I certainly won't be shopping there anymore and, as a fabricator, will be sure to NOT suggest this place to my customers. This review and all of this trouble could have been avoided had they simply fulfilled my order as expected or fulfilled the expectation of a refund for services not rendered. read more

I put a order in with them on Friday morning. I was told the item could be done the same day. By the time I got there, the order was set to be completed on monday, but no later than Tuesday. Ok, not a issue. Never heard from them by then. So I called early morning Wednesday. I was told it would be completed around 2. So, I waited to call at about 3. At first, excuse was the guy who works the tools was out. Called the last time, machine was down. So I asked for a refund, they don't give any. Ok, if you can't provide me with the services that I've paid you for, there should be at least most of my money back. But, none?! So, was promised that my product would be ready to day. Guess what?! I didn't hear from them! That's not a shock at all! So, since I had to at least leave a star, ok. But, should be negative stars on this review bracket. Veteran's discount for nothing. I had 2 previous purchases with Metal Supermarkets that were satisfactory. This time I needed to have 2 different lengths cut from 12 foot steel bars. As it turned out I would need a little more the way the lengths worked out and they did not have a 3rd in stock. There was a long delay of about 3 weeks and I heard nothing, so I called and was told I still had to wait 2 more weeks. I asked to have the first 2 pieces cut so I could use them to make a template. When I received the 2 pieces, they were cut as ordered, but realized that they were too heavy for what I had in mind. I asked if I could pay for what I received and change my order to aluminum. I was told there were no refunds and I could not do that. The guy said they would just collect dust, and they were hard to sell (even though they were already in stock). After a week I decided that I should take procession of the remaining in stock that I had purchased and paid for, so I could get started on the machining. I was told that the in stock pieces that I had purchased, had been sold. When I heard that the pieces I purchased were sold, I was quite unhappy. I told the guy that you would not allow me to change my order due to these in stock pieces only collecting dust. Now the product I had purchase and paid for almost 2 months ago had now been sold. I was very unhappy and explained why I was so unhappy, but the logic was lost to him. I have never had a worse customer service experience. read more

Small time hobbyist? Large shop? Doesn't matter these guys have you covered. Unlike other metal suppliers these folks treat you well even if you come in for a pittance of an order. This was my first visit there and I was helped right away. Walked out with a combination of solid round bar brass and aluminum in varying sizes cut to the lengths I needed for no extra charge. Well, let me start off by saying the initial interaction was good. Not great, but good. I ordered some square tube and rectangular tube for a project at home. I went there to save myself some time and have them cut the material, which they did, and for the most part, it was all cut well. That being said, I was shorted material that was left over. I had to call and ask for them for it. The lady who took my complaint call, flat out said they wouldn't deliver to correct this. I spoke to the manager and he said they can and will deliver but not until the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday) I called and set up Tuesday delivery and it never showed up. I asked to speak to a manager on Wednesday morning and set up another delivery for Wednesday afternoon, which they did eventually deliver. He couldn't take a call, so I left a message with my number. I never received a return call. They did eventually deliver the rest of my material, but only after saying they were too busy to deliver and correct their mistake the day before. read more

Courteous staff but the product was horrible. I ordered 4, three and a half inch pieces of stainless tube. I was quoted a price of $120. I already knew that I could order a 5-foot section of the same exact tube from Grainger for $150, tax and shipping included. When I arrive to pick up my four pieces, they were extremely rough cut. There were large burrs on both the ID and OD of the cuts and the cuts were not straight. I asked that these pieces at least be deburred because I'm paying approximately $30 a piece for a three inch piece of stainless steel that is inch and a quarter in diameter and a wall thickness of .083. They took the pieces into the back while I waited and did a poor job of deburring them. I was then presented with a bill for $131. I questioned this because my quote was $120 and found that they added the tax after the quote and I had requested a quote for the complete price. When I complained about the up charge in price, they just shrugged their shoulders. I made a big mistake. I should have bought the 5-foot piece from Grainger and just cut it myself. I definitely will not return to Metal Supermarket and I have a rather large project that's going to take the next year and a half to complete with a large amount of fabrication, but Metals Supermarket will definitely not be a part of it.
