Holy smokes! Best "foodie" event I have attended in DC! I'm already planning for next year (December 1-2, 2018 so mark those calendars!). First, I MUST say a BIG THANK YOU to Yelp, as I won 2 tickets for the Saturday, December 9, 2017 event through Yelp BUT, full disclosure, I would have absolutely paid the $21.50/ticket to attend too. This was a food event that I finally felt like the offerings were enough to fit the price (in fact, I would have paid more, shhhhh......). My hubby and I arrived around 10:45am, not long after the 10am opening. This was a smart move because the event got super crowded early afternoon, so we took a break and went to watch some of the cooking demos during this time. Upon arrival, definitely snag a free tote to store all of your coupons, flyers, and for later use at Trader Joe's. Coat check (yes it was $5 per item, which I found to be a bit odd for a ticketed event) was also near the entrance. Hubby and I tried 99% of the booths (some more than once!) that had samples and left full for the rest of the day! If we would have upgraded to the BBQ Bash or the beer/wine (both which I thought were overpriced), we would not have had room for the free stuff. While we wanted to purchase at least 50+ items, we were selective and purchased the following: *Island Bwoy Cuisine Jerk Sauce (made in Herndon, VA): $5/bottle couldn't pass it up. will be great with sausages, chicken, and fish! *Habanero Sting hot sauce from Eagle Rock and Coyote Farms (in western NY-$5 bottle): less than 2 mg sodium (yes, you worry about these things with age), no sugars. Nice "sting" that creeps up-perfect on omelettes! *Swissters Buffalo crunchy cheese crisps (out of Ohio-$5 for a package):minimal ingredients (cheddar cheese, herbs and spices, onion, salt (still only 252 mg in entire package), oregano, red pepper, and salt), super tasty, and the entire pack is 180 calories! We also walked out with lots of freebie items: brown rice packs, ramen, nature valley granola bars, barkthins, essentia water, and it goes on. lots of coupons too (thank you Graeter's!) I agree with a previous post-LOTS of honey, maple syrup, olive oil/balsamic vinegar, and jerky. My favorite "tastes": *Cypress Grove Cheese: delicious goat cheese and brulee goat cheese *Bunker Hill Cheese Co. (the swissters came not only in our purchase but Jalapeno, habanero, and milder flavors) *Dutch Country Foods: the blueberry jalapeno beer mustard was PHENOMENAL! *Laura Chenel's Chevre: more delicious goat cheese! *The Cheese Guy: Loved the spicy pepperjack! Honestly, hardly anything (with the exception of 2-4 booths) did not satisfy my taste buds! All staff was super friendly during the majority of the event but any booths we visited around 4ish (with 90 mins left in the event) were not enthused and didn't even bother saying hello. The cooking demos were also a highlight! We saw Michael Friedman (All Purpose and Red Hen), Michael Schlow (The Riggsby, Alta Strada, Tico,) and Victor Albisu (Del Campo and Taco Bamba). We didn't make the mad rush to the stage to try any of their food from the demos but all were very entertaining and I have finally bit the bullet and made reservations at The Red Hen (although not until early January due to the inability to get a time prior to 9pm on a weeknight earlier-yep, I feel super old). I enjoyed everything here and would love to return next year! Thanks again, Yelp, for the awesome time at this event!

Just checked out Metro Cooking 2019 at the Walter E Washington Convention Center courtesy of Yelp DC. Fun event with lots of activities complete with Martha Stewart cooking demos and plenty of free tasty food samples and goodies to buy from a variety of food venders (although almost nothing to take away). Not sure about past years since this was my first time attending but there seemed to be fewer restaurants participating, more food suppliers anywhere from meat and cheese products to chocolates, tons of sauces and condiments, and some equipment companies with fancy knives and cast iron cooking utensils. One more day to go if you are looking for a good way to spend the weekend!

Thanks Yelp for the opportunity to attend the 2019 Metro Cooking event held at the Walter E. Washington Convention. Street parking and parking lots available around the convention center. Pros: - several employees and ample signs once inside - coat check option - free reusable tote (offered by Tysons Corner mall) - Purchased products from Maesri, Neilly's - Most memorable vendors: Graeter's ice cream, Banana Blossom Bistro, Gotez, Cutco - female dj at ticket booth Cons: - the ticket allowed access to vendors that sold sauces, jerky, chocolates, teas, spices, misc. home reno vendors, sweets (great event to purchase gifts) - Grand Tasting Pavilion ticket was a separate ticket - vendors that sampled liquids (i.e. Honest Tea, did not sell products)

Pretty good show! There were lots of vendors, lots of free tasting samples, lots of take home samples, and lots of things to buy. Awesome gift ideas. We did the restaurant tastings as well for the addition $30. Totally worth it. Restaurant 701 was my personal fave, fois gras mousse with coco nibs, fennel pickle, & cherry-as much as I want??? Omg. Also delicious was the straciatella mozzarella with apples& pomegranate & I apologize I don't remember the restaurant name! But overall delicious & fun. Update Dec 2018: 4 stars this year. Still fun, lots of vendors, but previous faves not there, chef demos didn't seem to be well organized, the times were off & they did not offer tastings or recipes for all the demo dishes (thumbs down).

Metro Cooking DC during the event hours. Waist of money and no refund$ rain check nothing

We went for the food before 3pm as stated in the brochure and this is what we got. Nothing! We contacted the people there and was given a number for a possible refund and was never called back. This was the biggest waist of time and money I have ever seen!

Even though it was a beautiful event, there were a couple of things that really impact our overall experience. 1. Some of the staff was SUPER RUDE and not really helpful when checking in, there were too many lines and not enough signage directing people where to go based on the ticket purchased. 2. With the book bag giveaway is there was no maps/ wayfinding to help guide people to food trucks and tents allocated to shops and specific food. 3. The pathway to seating on the hill was not accessible for everyone, and the path that was available was NOT blocked off for people to properly walk through. Even the area where we were to go to place the lanterns in the water was in some areas UNSAFE (rocks, boulders). 4. I know this doesn't fall on the event planners themselves but one specific food truck took over an hour for them to get us three items were ordered and still got our order wrong! Overall, I just wish it was better communication on placement maps, way finding signage, and staffing

It's pretty tiny but somehow we ended up spending about 4 hours here, mostly because of my kids. There is a small indoor portion in the church, where there are various vendors mostly selling women's jewelry. That is about 80% of the vendors at least when I visited in 2025. There was a stand selling great olive oil and olives (both of which I purchase) and a stand selling the delicious Greek desserts I basically ate every day while I lived in Astoria, Queens (one of the largest Greek communities in the US). The ladies at the bakery were so friendly, even offering my son a cookie for free (and of course he takes the entire box!). Outside, there is another bakery (with about 4 times the size of the line), and other food stalls. We got a lamb gyro with tzatziki and it was out of this world. There is a tent with music, where some people were dancing and an occasional singer or band would rotate in and out. Also in the tent was a drink vendor where my partner and I enjoyed a glass of white wine on a very hot day. The kids were drawn to the bouncy houses, which included some traditional ones and a blow up slide. It cost $10 per child for use all day. They certainly got their money's worth! There was a sign for face painting and pony rides but I did not see either and the ladies working the desk didn't know when or if they'd actually show up. Overall, a very relaxing spot. Don't expect a huge festival but a relaxed afternoon out or evening. There is also a lovely flower vendor that is a nice place to wander or buy flowers for the spring.

The DC Cherry Blossom Bus Tour with Tidal Basin Guided Walk…read more I've been a resident of the DMV for 15 years and welcome the opportunity to show the highlights of D.C. when members of my family come for a visit. My sister Mary lives in Delaware and had long wanted to experience the color and drama of the Cherry Blossom Festival. These visits can be frustrating - we never really know when the blossoms will be in full bloom, and how long they'll be pretty and photogenic. This year (2026) was no different. The DC Cherry Blossom Tour, hosted by USA Guided Tours, was our go-to provider for this outing. After I ordered our tickets for a mid-week 10 a.m. four-hour tour, I received a prompt acknowledgement from TripAdvisor that the reservations were ready. I made the reservation just a few days earlier, so it was great to see the email that acknowledged our tickets and told us where to go to join the tour. The logistics involved in getting to the correct bus were easy: my sister and I showed up at the Navy Memorial, across the street from the National Archives (which is on the Yellow line Metro). A tour representative was already there and did a great job of getting us into the proper queue for our tour (USA Tours had four different tours departing that morning). The tickets were scanned and we were on our way, right on time. Highlights of the tour included walking through the cherry trees with abundant blossoms, photographers everywhere, and really pretty expressions of an early summer day in the District. We could see across the tidal basin to the impressive carved statue of Martin Luther King, Jr., which we headed to after spending the first walking excursion in the tidal basin and then the FDR Memorial. Our guide did an outstanding job of providing backstories and context to the places we visited, including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam War Memoria. We had ample opportunities to stretch our legs, take free bottles of water, and use restroom facilities (as the bus did not have one on board). Both driver and guide handled their responsibilities very well, and we all had an excellent opportunity to see the blossoms. And, just as our guide had predicted, a severe thunderstorm rolled through the tidal basin later that day and wiped out 100 percent of the blossoms we enjoyed earlier that day. Luck of the draw!

I'm not sure of the process of selecting which food trucks get to be at Truckeroo, but I wasn't personally impressed by any of the ones there. The lines for these trucks were super long! My friend was starving so we tried to look for a short line and decided to try capital chicken and waffle since their line didn't seem as long as some of the others. I've seen this truck around and figured I might as well give them a try. So after waiting almost 25 minutes (yes I was counting), we were able to place our orders. We both ordered the chicken and fries. My friend got a side of mac n cheese. Then began another lengthy waiting period! Sigh...finally we got our meal. Looked like regular ole chicken fingers and they pretty much were actually. Not impressed at all - was very bland and dry. Good thing I wasn't starving. OMG, the mac n cheese was disgusting - probably the worst I've ever tasted (not exaggerating). Forget trying to find a place to sit at this point. Nothing in sight!! We caught up with the others in our group and walked around. Some ventured off to get drinks. I ran into some folks I hadn't seen in awhile so that was good. Unless they find a different venue and a larger selection of food trucks, I'm in no hurry to go back to Truckeroo!
