The maintenance guy (what few times he actually showed up) is always high as all get out. He never calls ahead of time, and once walked into my apartment without permission while I was in the shower. I was patient as I can be, and tried to give the management company the benefit of a doubt, but while I continued to shell out almost $1,700 dollars in rent, (which should afford me some decent living) Ms. Harris continued to make empty promises and let things go to crap here. I moved into the unit in March 2021. In April 2021 I mentioned wet carpet on the top floor when it rained. Since then, water has leaked profusely into the building anytime there is more than just a little spit. Drywall is crumbling and warped. Ceiling drywall is falling down in the stairwell. I'm honestly waiting for the stairwell to just cave in. I can't imagine the amount of building damage being done to this place and I can imagine the walls are just full of mold. The water heater puts out hot-ish water in the shower and warm water at best in the kitchen, and never was even looked at after several requests to have hot water adjusted. Mailboxes leaked when it rained for almost six months (one of the four mailbox doors was completely broken and just flapped in the wind, yes someone lived in that unit). After they did fix it, it was unlocked and hung open for several weeks before a lock was installed. Several checks were ruined and I had to re-request them from the sources. Call boxes/doorbells are not functional, and no one tells you that until after you move in. Its a tricksy little thing, but I guess shame on me for not testing them. The entrance is gated so people can't even knock on your door or ring your doorbell. Getting packages delivered is hell and delivery people end up just throwing it over the seven+ foot fence, no matter what may be inside. When I asked for a screen to be added to a bedroom window, a mangled, torn screen, too large for the window, was wedged in place. Now this isn't a huge deal, but if I'm paying $1,700 a month I should be able to open my bedroom window! EAR Housing is a slum lord. Collecting overpriced rent and neglecting properties people call home. Shame on them, shame on E. Harris. I don't care how many properties they have and if they are overwhelmed. I have a lot of bills which can sometimes be overwhelming but I paid my rent on time. I upheld my end of the contract.

My experience with Saperstein was in 2009-2010 I had leased a 1-Bedroom apartment from them when they owned and operated the Morton House Apartments located in Grand Rapids, MI, which was a low-income high-rise apartment complex that served those of us at poverty-level income levels but was shut down in 2011 because the building was sold. I was homeless at the time and was desperate for somewhere to live, and Saperstein was able to do that for me at Morton House, so I have no complaints. I had a nice apartment and got my life back on track living there, held 3 different jobs while renting from Saperstein as well as attended college. I am not as familiar with their other properties, but I can say I would definitely consider residing in one of their communities again if ever given the opportunity.
