This is a little "hole in the wall" restaurant. My favorite kinds of restaurants. We have been there several times in the past few years, the staff have always been friendly and efficient. The food is good. I don't know how authentic the Mexican food is, but it's good. Prices are reasonable. Serving sizes are as expected. The restaurant is clean. It is located near those large bean silos and a garage, a place you would easily drive by and not notice. If you do notice the restaurant, your first impressions probably won't be much. Nevertheless, I do recommend this place. Give it a try. It's quite nice. read more

It was okay. Not entirely authentic but well seasoned. The salsa tasted homemade but not spicy, the tortilla chips were just okay cause they were weirdly seasoned, the chimichanga plate (again) was not authentic but the dough was good. Also, the margaritas didn't taste like they had any tequila. All that being said, the service was excellent and the ambiance was actually nice. Overall, I wouldn't go here again. read more

We came to mexicactus at dinnertime on a Tuesday and it was extremely busy. I guess I'm not the only one that celebrates taco Tuesday! Overall, the food was okay for the price. The tacos were large and tasted good, but they were nothing special. The salad was drenched in an excessive amount of dressing. The restaurant is in an industrial area and kind of a dive inside. I recently discovered mexicactus, I'm from Toronto, and hands down this is the best Mexican I've had! I came for the first time on Friday, and of course came back on Saturday night with different people! I should mention you're given complimentary chips and salsa, the salsa is so delicious and the chips have an amazing spice on them! I got the chimichanga and the antojitos on Friday for lunch. The antojitos are a giant portion and so so delicious. Amazingly spiced chips, a dip loaded with homemade refried beans and cheese! Still unsure how I ate a chimichanga afterwards but I guess when the foods this good you find a way. Then I got the vegetarian chimichanga, filled with delicious vegetables and cheese-don't forget to get their homemade hot sauces as well! On Saturday I was very creative, and got another chinichanga. But this time with the jalapeño poppers and guacamole to start, soooo amazing! I swear this place can not disappoint. I also decided to get the deep fried ice cream, because, well, why not right? Décor is fun, if a bit of a mishmash. Seating options are tables or at the bar. Our server was Vishwa. She was friendly, and worked very hard to make sure that my selection met my dietary restrictions. I was really looking forward to the complimentary totopos (tortilla chips). My love of totopos knows no bounds; more than once my daily food intake while on a southern vacation has consisted of totopos to an unhealthy degree. These were oddly flavoured, sprinkled with some sort of spiced salt that did not please. The margarita was a real letdown as I expected a tasty libation based on the Yelp reviews. It was made with cheap(est) bar mix; I asked for a few lime slices to add some flavour. A miss at $9 for the large size; it wasn't very big, so I don't know what the small version would be. Canadian is the house draft at $5.90 for a pint. My dining companion had the burrito ($16). It came with rice and a salad. Good but not great was his pronouncement. My fish tacos were okay. The batter was heavy, not light or delicate. Appeared to be frozen fish that was deep-fried. I wouldn't rush to return. I much prefer Los Lobos, despite the crowds and higher prices. read more

I came here for a night out with the ladies from work. I'm glad we chose this spot since I've heard great things and I've been wanting to go for a while. Funny enough, I ran into another Yelper while I was there, also her first time as well! We were given chips and salsa which were really good. It tasted homemade! I'm sure it was. My colleagues ordered a small pitcher of sangria which was enough for the 3 of them. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla a la Grande. It came with a fresh starter salad. I enjoyed the dressing. I loved the tortilla the quesadilla was made in, it tasted great and I loved the crispy end pieces from being cooked. The only thing I didn't like was the sprinkle of seasoned salt along the middle. It made the dish too salty for my taste. Service was slower and minimal but I think it was because we were so intent on visiting with each other. We were talking a lot, so she most likely held back to not interrupt. Everyone enjoyed their dishes and they all looked great. The fajitas were priced under $15 for a small which is decently priced. Ch-ch-ch-chimi! I had been craving a chimichanga for about a week and knew of only two places in the city that could satisfy that and as luck would have it, the stars aligned and I managed to convince the roommates to do a take out order. After about 30 minutes, three chicken chimis were safely tucked away to travel home. They smelt amazing! Inside the containers awaited a massive chimi that was golden brown and had sides of rice and beans with some salsa and sour cream on top. I would've liked a bit more sour cream, but that's just me. Incredible flavour. Lots of chicken and peppers. Cheese was just enough but I would probably be happy with a bit more. I am a dairy fan, what can I say? Every bite was perfectly mixed, which is impressive. The rice was really tasty! Beans as well. I think I was the only one who liked the side salad dressing and ended up eating two of the three salads. While waiting, I noticed a fellow Yelper and said hello! I also noticed it was quite busy and there was one server who was constantly going back and forth into the kitchen. The owner/manager lady seemed to be just hovering about, not being incredibly helpful. The décor is rustic sombrero cheesiness. I would definitely like to go back and eat at the restaurant (sangria!!!) because I was happily and extremely pleased with the take out meal. read more

I'd heard a lot about Mexicactus in the past and was interested in trying a New Mexican place. The restaurant itself is small but cute. Parking was limited but it was worth it. The patio was quite intriguing but it was far too hot to sit outside, but I'll definitely be looking at sitting outside next time I visit. The restaurant itself is small but cute. Food was fantastic. This is just the absolute best place for Mexican food in London, I only ever come here for it. The food is awesome the service is always good and I have never had a bad meal, plus the portions are fantastic. I recommend the chimichanga it is what I usually get and you can choose baked or fried which is a bonus. Prices are very reasonable and you get homemade chips and salsa for a starter. The outside may look a bit sketchy due to it being attached to a mechanic shop and the area of town it is in, but believe me don't judge this book by its cover! read more

Since our recent move to the east end we've been driving by this place daily for work, so we decided to check it out this past weekend. Mexican food is one of my favorites. Whenever I'm in Arizona or Colorado (which is at least once a year since I have family in those areas) I always try to scope out the best Mexican food in the area. We started with the antojitos and had a chicken chimichanga and beef enchiladas for our entrees. Compared to the Mexican restaurants in the states, Mexicactus didn't quite hit the mark on the flavours I was yearning for. I've yet to really find a good Mexican restaurant in Canada, but to be fair there aren't nearly as many. Aside from the flavour, I can tell that the owners of this restaurant do take pride in what they do. The interior of the restaurant is really clean and has a fun atmosphere, and the dishes are prepared with care. Service was quick and efficient and the waitress was pleasant. read more

I was impressed by the decor. Very authentic. That being said, it was the only thing I was impressed with. This Mexican place was recommended and described as "authentic Mexican," however I found that to be the complete opposite. Being born and raised in Texas, I've had my share of great Tex-mex and home cooked Mexican dishes. I was happy to see we got free chips and salsa, but we were not served these until about 30 minutes after being seated. I was most disappointed to find that we had to buy more after our small portion was gone. For $4! I ordered the enchilada dish with high hopes. I wasn't happy that I had to order my refried beans (a usual staple with any Mexican dish) as a separate side. The enchilada sauce tasted like it was out of a can and was not what I was expecting at all. The salsa that was added on top was also a big let down as I was expecting more of a pico-de-gayo type salsa. The rice was good and probably the best part of the meal. The beans were thick and tacky-like. Perhaps from a can as well. My husband ordered a taco salad and I wished I had ordered this as well. The fried taco bowl was delicious and the portion was what I would expect. The service...as I stated before, we didn't receive our complimentary chips until about 30 minutes after we arrived. The same for our drinks. I ordered a margarita and didn't drink half because it was most definetly not mixed at the bar. It was probably from a bottle and mixed with a bit of tequila. Our server was extremely unattentive and we practically had to wave our hands in the air to get anything we may have needed. I think were waited about 45 minutes for our food after we ordered even though there were maybe 2 other tables occupied. We also had to get up and ask someone for our bill (we couldn't find our server.) I will not make the hour drive again to have this non-authentic Mexican food. read more

This place is the best place I have ever found to get Mexican food. You will not be disappointed if you choose to eat here...it is by far my favourite restaurant in London! Authentic, homemade Mexican dishes. I always get the traditional quesadilla, it is a corn shell with chicken, sour cream and salsa. Rice and salad and beans come with it. My guy has gotten the burrito, enchilada, taco del pastor (?). They serve seasoned tortilla chips and homemade salsa to start. Large menu, Mexican and Canadian things...you can get a burger here too. (but why would you?). Always friendly service. They play Mexican or Spanish tv shows too, so sometimes they are funny soaps or things I don't understand...but amusing. It may seem like a far-out location, it's on Trafalgar just past Highbury before the roundabout. Sooo worth the trip though. read more

I really felt that I needed to give this place a review, as we went here based on the great reviews from others. We were thoroughly unimpressed. While I understand that we are in Canada and not Texas, I still feel like we should be able to find decent Mexican food. The place is cute and divey, which I loved and had high hopes when we walked in. But nothing impressed me after that. Service was incredibly slow, especially considering it wasn't that busy. The lady got my order wrong and completely forgot a side (because she didn't write it down...drives me crazy every time). My opinion on the food was it was just okay. We were thrown off by pizza and a Greek salad on the menu at a Mexican place, but went with the staples of fajitas, enchiladas, and queso. I drank about half of my margarita, as it was practically juice. And any time we needed anything, like a water refill or even the bill, we practically had to trip someone. All in all, I was disappointed that this was all it takes for a great review on yelp, I am hoping these people have had both better Mexican food and better service somewhere else. read more

The restaurant has been a personal favourite of mine until a few weeks ago, the ARROGANT owner of the restaurant disrespectfully Screamed at one of his servers in front of our table for bringing us the wrong meal (Cook's fault). She started crying after he walked away, stating that she was scared of him.
