Headed to Kirksville for some personal business and was interested in checking out some of the local Mexican food. Mi Casa was a pleasant surprise. We visited on Sunday afternoon during the lunch rush and was able to get seated without any issue. Once seated we were given a healthy portion of chips and salsa and our server took our drink order. Mi Casa has a cool decor with several authentic art pieces. There is plenty of seating but I do hear happy hours do get pretty busy and did I mention a $2 margarita special? I didn't get a chance to try one on this visit but will be back soon and will update my review. Mi Casa has a very diverse menu with a variety of vegetarian, beef, pork and chicken dishes. Prices were very reasonable and our server answered all questions we had. We ordered enchiladas verdes, a chicken chimichanga and a delicious ranchera beef plate. All dishes were large portions and very good. Our server was great and checked in with us several times to ensure everything was good. Don't waste your money and time coming here. Came here because La Fuente was closed. Got sat quickly and ordered our drinks and food. Chips were thin and stale, salsa wasnt great. Waited over 30 minutes for our food to be served. Ordered 2 pollo con queso and it was not great, rice wasnt great, and was cold. Ordered chicken fajita, specifically said chicken fajita 2 times but they messed it up and put steak with it, was extremely dry with burnt areas as well. Ordered carnitas and it came as a huge serving, couldn't eat but half of it. Never came and refilled drinks or asked how the food was. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was loud couldn't hear my family talking to me and they couldn't hear me as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They need to have more of the workers serving food and not running around with chips and salsa. This seems like a newer restaurant in this strip mall. The service was fabulous - friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Great staff! Great food! Doing a fantastic job of socially distancing in the Covid19 pandemic. Only two restaurants in town are having their workers wear mask to work and serve food and this is one of them! They have hand sanitizer, clean or used pen cups, plastic shields and empty between each booth and table. Chips and salsa are nice and fresh. They also have a green salsa I highly recommend. The menu is pretty standard Tex mex and well prepared. I do recommend a bit of salt and pepper added to their meats as they are less seasoned, likely for customer's preference to add their own. Wow, what a Mexican restaurant! This is easily the top Mexican restaurant in Kirksville; and, for the price, it is one of the best that I have been to anywhere. I have eaten at several on the San Antonio Riverwalk, and I'd choose Mi Casa over those any day for food quality. I was highly impressed from start to finish. The chips and salsa were excellent. The salsa was sweet and the perfect viscosity, and it complemented the chips well. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes. Unlike at other Mexican restaurants where the meal consists of three chicken enchiladas, this was a nice variety of four enchiladas: chicken, beef, refried bean, and cheese. The chicken had a ton of flavor with the perfect amount of spice. The guacamole went great with the refried bean enchilada. Overall, I was very impressed. For being in the middle of a pretty boring town, Mi Casa stands out in excellence. A super clean, friendly, and cool place with a big menu is what you'll find here. I always got the soft tacos because they never missed. The salsa and queso are really good and my sister and her friends all enjoy the margaritas. The rice and beans were also always consistent and delicious as was everyone's food. The staff are easy going and the environment as a whole is pretty relaxed. If you ever find yourself in Kirksville (not recommended) go get some great food at Mi Casa (recommended)!! read more

Soooo...we ordered the most basic things: a bowl of chili and nachos. They tasted horrible and looked terrible too. The nacho meat looked worse than Taco Bell meat and the cheese was just slapped on and wasn't the mixed Mexican cheese. The chili was clearly not cooked as chili. They clearly just took a bowl of refried beans and threw some sauce and meat on top. Just horrendous. Don't come here until their chef goes back to Mexico and learns how to cook. Mi Casa, I could write you a love letter. Truman students know the battle of the Mexican restaurants in Kville; everyone has their preference. But Mi Casa is my favorite Mexican restaurant EVER. I don't need to try the others. (I did anyway, Mi Casa is still on top). Now I've been gone from Kville for a year and think about Mi Casa at least weekly. Food was consistently good. It ALWAYS hit the spot. Prices affordable for a college student - so not too bad. Salsa is AMAZING. I dream of it. Margaritas SLAP. Staff was always very kind and helpful. In town for a college visit and had 3 people recommend this as the best Mexican food in town...family owned with awesome pictures of Mexican countryside. Restaurant on the corner of a strip mall...easy to miss if you're not looking. Friendly staff...warm chips that tasted homemade. Great salsa with chunks of tomato and cilantro. Don't pass this place by. It's hidden in a shopping plaza that doesn't look to offer much but this place is fantastic. I usually avoid Mexican food in the Midwest because so many places over cook the veggies, smother everything in queso and over salt everything. I love good Mexican food and most places miss the mark. Mi Casa gets it right. It's genuinely good quality food. They actually season the food instead of loading it with salt so you can really get the deep flavors of the food. It's family friendly and clean with plenty of seating. They are usually very busy. My only issue is that when they get busy the wait time for food is extremely long. Last time we waited 45 minutes for our food. Not a big deal though. The service is great. They kept our drinks full and kept bringing chips. The trouble is I didn't have much room left for my meal by the time we got our food. I had great leftovers though. read more
