They got my drink order and chips n salsa out right away which was nice since I had not eaten all day! They have Pepsi products and no Diet Dr Pepper which is their one bummer, but not a big deal as they did have Sweet Tea (and it was great). I ordered their 3 chicken enchiladas plate which comes with cheese sauce on top and it was really good. It came out super fast too. Back in Kirksville and was driving around and found La Fuente Mexican Restaurant. We visited after the lunch rush and was able to find a seat with ease. Our server was quick to take our drink order while we reviewed the menu. La Fuente has a pretty good variety of dishes as well as margaritas. We were served chips and salsa which was very good. Chips were served warm and lightly salted. Salsa has a good kick but not too hot to scare anyone away. We ordered a combination plate and enchiladas with chicken. Food was served quickly and very tasty. Great portion for those who are hungry or take it home for later. Restaurant was very clean and staff was quick to service tables. Prices were very reasonable and will be back. They do have menudo on the weekends and will update the review. Give them a try. read more

Easily the best Mexican place in kirksville. Always get seated immediately and drinks come quick. Salsa and chips are always good here. Food comes within 20 minutes, freshly cooked and hot. Every meal I have had I have enjoyed. The service is great, they treat you like family. They get you refills, ask you how the food is, and are super kind to everyone. They ask if you need more chips when needed. They are great with kids as well. The ambiance is great, good seating, and very very clean, never smells or looks bad. We liked everything about this place on a recent visit. Not a fancy place - very casual. Our server David was awesome. Menu is large. We had a variety - tacos, chimichanga (lunch special) and a build your own combo. We were served within minutes and all items were very fresh. Chips and salsa were also very good. TLDR: Try the chili relleno with a glass of horchata. If you like picante salsa, ask for it. Extensive menu. Friendly staff/owners. MENU: Large selection. More like the Mexican restaurants you find in the southwest, and less like the Midwestern-style places that want to drown everything in waxy cheese sauce. FOOD QUALITY: Standard for the area; neither exceptional or worse than average. MENU FAVORITES: As far as I know, La Fuente is the only place in town you can get a chili relleno (stuffed poblano pepper battered and fried), which is one of my favorites. The chili colorado (what Americans think of as chili, without beans) is good as well. MENU FAILS: I recommend steering away from anything that probably doesn't get ordered very often, or isn't likely to be made fresh. One of the downsides of having such an extensive menu is that having EVERYTHING on hand at all times is a challenge, and the quality can suffer as a result. In my case I ordered lengua one time (braised beef tongue) and was kind of ill the next day. FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE: Super friendly. One time the guy working the cash register gave me a refill of horchata on the house, even though the menu says no refills. KITCHEN SERVICE: No complaints. COMPETITION: The only other Mexican restaurant I go to with any regularity is La Pa. IMO, the tacos are better at La Pa, and La Fuente is better for anything that isn't tacos. ATMOSPHERE: No matter where you sit, there will be lots of windows around, which I think is nice. Pleasant overall. read more

Those were just about, if not the best fajitas I've ever eaten! The forgot to send tortilla's, but I didn't care. My hired man had a HUGE burrito and he loved it as much as I loved the fajita's!!! If you're ever in Kirksville and you like Mexican food, you need to treat yourself to this restaurant. Very unassuming, but the food is incredible. In town visiting our college students and this place had been recommended. Our party of five went for lunch. La Fuentes was very busy. We were seated right away and noticed it was filled not with student families but mostly locals....families with young children, workers from all walks of life...this is apparently a town hit. Although we sort of stumbled upon this restaurant, we will definitely be putting in our "go again" list. It was delicious. Wish it was closer to home so we too could be regulars here. Service fast and friendly. Our waitress said, "it's all good." We found that statement to be accurate. They give you pretty dang big portions they need to update the pricing on their menus online and in store, but still worth the food! Food was ok. Not as good as other places in town. The owner himself is not someone I'd care to meet again. His rudeness and harsh nature caused him to lose his best people who then turned around and made a new restaurant which is better in almost every way. They served me a burrito which was cold in the center and looked like it was made a while ago. Tortilla was soggy. I think they microwaved or just used a pan to heat up an older item that was pre-made or made for another customer. This is the most authentic Mexican food I've had in Kirksville, and after living in Mexico for 4 years, I'm pretty picky about what I call real Mexican. They have lots of authentic dishes, (even including chilaquiles, which I have never seen anywhere else in the States), but they also have the regular ground beef tacos and such for the less adventurous, and these choices are usually cheaper. Someone mentioned something about the carnitas not being carnitas.. I've had them there and they are the ONLY carnitas I've had in the US that have in fact been real carnitas. In other words, no, they are not what Americans call carnitas; but they are what Mexicans call carnitas. So do be careful if you are expecting something different; carnitas is usually fatty chunks of pork.. and at La Fuente they have it smothered in salsa verde. Good, but probably not what you would expect! The staff is very friendly; I have met and chatted with many of them, and after over a year they still remembered my name! They are very helpful when you order and take good care of you throughout your meal. The most popular time for people to go to La Fuente is Sunday afternoon. So if you go then just realize that you will probably have to wait, and it will be quite crowded and loud. It's worth it though! This is also the best time to see how serious about their jobs the employees really are! read more
