I came in just as they were opening for the day, so I was the only one in the place for a while. First impression? The space/decor is not much to look at. But Liz was attentive, cheerful and chatty, and I relaxed pretty quickly -- I'd rather have a "regulars swing by" kind of experience than feel like I need to be on my best behavior in a fancy spa setting, anyway. I didn't have a firm idea of what I wanted in terms of style, so I let Liz take the reins -- we ultimately decided on a half-updo so the gentle curls she set in my hair would stay in place until the afternoon. The salon is bright and cute and well stocked with Living Proof (my fav!) products as well as Kevin Murphy that I love being able to conveniently pick up for my husband while I'm there. Speaking of convenience, it's so helpful to be able to pay and tip via Venmo. Jay is an absolute master who can really do it all. Her coloring skills are second to none - she has made me a perfectly toned (SO HARD to find someone who can tone perfectly!!!) bleach blonde as well as brunette. When I asked her to get me back to my natural color she got it perfectly blended in one seemingly effortless shot. Amazing cuts too. I'm able to give her barely any instruction and she knows just what to do with my face shape and hair texture. Also able to give me manageable bangs as well as able to help me grow them out when the time came. And to top it all off I always leave the salon with a blowout that makes me feel like a celeb ready to take on the world. She has been going to Marie since high school (we are now 31) so I could trust her. Marie has yet to disappoint. I am someone with curly hair so I need to find a stylist that can handle curly hair and thankfully Marie has the same texture so knows just how to tame my mane. The prices are reasonable. The only downfall is that they only accept cash or checks. No credit cards are accepted. This is something I need to remind myself before each appointment. Thankfully there is an ATM in the convenience store in the same block. The parking is tight as this is located right on Mystic Ave, but thankfully I have always lucked out in one of the spots on the same block. But it is something to be cautious of when making an appointment.
