I love coming to Capelli Chic and working with Jay! It doesn't matter that I live an hour away - the drive is more than worth it. The salon is bright and cute and well stocked with Living Proof (my fav!) products as well as Kevin Murphy that I love being able to conveniently pick up for my husband while I'm there. Speaking of convenience, it's so helpful to be able to pay and tip via Venmo. Jay is an absolute master who can really do it all. Her coloring skills are second to none - she has made me a perfectly toned (SO HARD to find someone who can tone perfectly!!!) bleach blonde as well as brunette. When I asked her to get me back to my natural color she got it perfectly blended in one seemingly effortless shot. Amazing cuts too. I'm able to give her barely any instruction and she knows just what to do with my face shape and hair texture. Also able to give me manageable bangs as well as able to help me grow them out when the time came. And to top it all off I always leave the salon with a blowout that makes me feel like a celeb ready to take on the world. I went to Capellini Chic last fall (very nervously because I was going to someone new) and my stylist did my hair so well I loved it! I called at the beginning of May this month to make an appointment with her again for later in May... When I went to the salon at 9 for my appointment, no one was there, the doors were locked, no one home... When I found my stylist's number and called, she immediately explained that she had a falling out with her boss, who was now withholding all of her client's information (like my phone number, which is why she couldn't contact me to let me know that she moved salons). My stylist explained that she was trying to find my number for the past week, to try and let me know so that I wouldn't show up to the salon with no one there...like I had. Super unprofessional of her boss to withhold her clients information, but also super unprofessional for no one to call her clients and cancel their appointments. I wasted so much of my morning rushing around to make it to Newburyport in time for my appointment, only to find a locked door and my stylist in another town... A call from the salon would have been the least they can do. Literally do not go here. read more

Jay did a wonderful job on my balayage. She took the time to get to know me and understand what I wanted. I would highly recommend.

First time at this place and was really impressed. First they are so easy to deal with regarding setting up appointments which is all done via text. When I arrived the checkin was just as impressive with text check-in. They leave plenty of space between each client which I really appreciated. Taylor touched up my roots and did a haircut and she did a great job and was really nice. They have varies levels of stylists so I would highly recommend Taylor who was level 2. read more

Jay is the absolute best and I cannot recommend her enough! If you have crazy thick, unruly hair like me you NEED to go see her (sorry Jay if you see this...your poor arms). She is the only stylist I've ever been to who really takes their time and knows how to work with it. Jess aka Jay is the absolute best!!! A friend referred me to her a year ago when I was looking for a stylist to do my wedding hair-- best choice I made. She is a total professional, really listened and gave me the exact look I was going for during our first appointment. Since then, she has become my permanent stylist and regularly cuts/colors my hair. Over the past two years I've asked for a couple different looks, most recently balayage highlighting, and every time I leave the salon beaming and happy. I am in love with this salon! They are super welcoming and it's always playing inviting music and the people are so nice and friendly and welcome you with a big smile. I love this place especially because of Jay. My stylist Jay has been doing my hair for the last few years and I would follow her wherever she went. She always recommends something a little different and I would trust her completely! She knows which styles and colors would look good with my hair and my face shape; she clearly has a gift and knows what she is talking about. So my hair is really important to me, I mean like really important. I have worn my hair long all my life, down to past my lower back. My Hair is a BIG part of my identity, pride and joy. So I do not take it lightly when looking for the right hairdresser. I felt I wanted to make a drastic change but I was afraid. I wanted bangs and a shag which is life-changing for me having the same haircut for most of my life. I wouldn't trust anyone else other than Jessica Romani! Jay has a great style to her own hair and look so I just knew she'd be the perfect fit for me! She is young hip and very stylish! Not every hair dresser understands how to do the right kind of "rocker" bang with a shag look... it's a very specific technique! So happy with my first visit to the salon! I saw Leah, and she did a great cut and beautiful highlight, correcting a lot of problem areas I was stuck with from a different salon, months earlier. She also offered suggestions for a low maintenance/more affordable schedule to keep my color intact, but without any pressure to book a bunch of appointments on the spot. She even stayed late on a Saturday just to accommodate my appointment and made sure I had her contact info if I had any issues with my hair after the appointment (but everything came out perfect). I've been to 4 different stylists since moving here in December and I have *finally* found my person. The others have all been at expensive salons and I can promise you, you're paying for status, not talent. (Uneven cuts, things I didn't ask for, color that was blah) But not here! I paid a reasonable price for 5 star service and a cut/color I love. J was so sweet and welcoming, she listened to my concerns and delivered 110%. Not sure if it was the stylist they chose for me- but after working an ambulance for Covid months and not having my hair done in 5 months I called and made arrangements for a visit. I offered to come by prior to and show the stylist my hair because of the way my hair naturally pulls red, and I wanted to ensure we had enough time set aside. The stylist said she didn't have time to look at it. I showed up on time and she was late and began 45 minutes after our schedule time. She charged me 50 plus for a haircut that was only a cm off of what it was and I paid for a balayage that is not even visible. The blonde after 2 days began to look greenish in tone whole she did my roots almost black which were over processed. She went and had lunch with her friend out back and let my color sit way too long and it went far far too dark not to mention it was on all new growth so the color should have been perfect for a 10 to 20 min sit for the roots. Instead it sat 45 minutes plus. Stylist told me she didn't have time to add my extensions, after I paid over 500 for them. And she didn't do my hair to even match them so I could install them later on. She sold me on a product there and when I agreed to buy it she said she had none left. All in all I over paid and I should've stayed with my regular salon. They charge less for the services individually, have Excellent stylists and they never send anyone out unfinished or in dismay. They also serve drinks and things like that which makes it far more worth it in the long run. After my service I reached out via email to update the manager who never responded back... Or offered to fix. So... I don't mind now leaving a review I was courteous enough to send privately, and had she cared enough to email me back... Would have remained that way. I have been coming to Capelli Chic ever since Jess started. I used to drive all the way from Boston every few months to have her work her magic on my curly hair that was/is rebounding from years of straightening abuse. Not only is she a hair goddess, but Jess is an amazing person. Spending a couple of hours with Jess is like spending them with a dear friend and I always leave feeling so grateful to know her. Alright, I've never written a review before - so bear with me folks. Jay is the absolute best. How you may ask? Why let me tell you! 1. I've been going to Jay for over 8 years now. EIGHT YEARS. 2. I even followed her when she changed salons. Find a new person? Hell no. If I could wear a Jay-4-Lyfe shirt around I would. 3. Even when I moved to Maine or to Boston, I would drive an hour back to Newburyport to have her do my hair. Working until 3am then appointment at 10am? You bet. Worth it. 4. Walking into the salon and sitting down in Jay's chair is like seeing an old friend. She is honestly one of the sweetest, funniest humans I know. And guess what, she CARES about her clients. Yup, wild, I know! 5. Jay has taken me to the pearly whites of the blondest blondes and back to my natural color. She has made me feel truly beautiful when I walked in feeling like a busted ol' can of biscuits. My hair has never been better than it is right now, despite all that we have done to it. 6. No matter what cut, style or color my hair is, I get a compliment wherever I go. Jay is truly a magician. Seriously, do yourself a solid, and when this whole COVID-19 mess is over - book an appointment with Jay. You will not be disappointed.
