How could I ever give a library less than five stars. We really try to emphasize a love for reading and doing things the right way with our kids. Going to the library and looking up books is fundamental in my opinion. Instant gratification isn't great for these kiddos all the time. This library is close to the new crib and although they are going through some renovations, the bones are still strong. Everyone here is so nice and helpful that it doesn't feel like it's real... but it is I love this place. This is a very lovely library in a nice area separated from the street, and I really appreciate how clean and organized it always is. I've never had any issues finding books or using the computer, and often come here to study or do remote work at one of the many available tables with outlets. I know libraries are a public service and there's no financial incentive for the employees to keep this place so well-maintained, but you can tell everyone in the community cares about making this facility a friendly, pleasant space for people to enjoy. read more

Great library! Fun community programs for adults. It's accesible with ramps and an elevator. There are currently latin dance classes on Wednesday with coach Andres that I would definitely recommend! The plaza and playground in front make it a great family experience as well as all the restaurants around. It's really a great location. read more

Their times are updated online and reason for the four stars is that sometimes there are a few people that come in and think that they can talk really loud or talk on their phone disrespecting others peace and quiet space so some days & times it is quiet or if unlucky you'll have parrots in the same area as you so I recommend bringing headphones just in case. Overall I would give the library in general five stars as it has a lot of available tables with an outlet that's either on the floor or wall, there's 3 open cubicles on 1st floor, there's bathrooms on the 1st & 2nd floor. There's two vending machines inside 1st floor. There's books for kids on 2nd floor, there's a shared study room on the 2nd floor but I preferably like the 1st floor to be alone & not distracted. Worse place to study. I've been coming here for years as is closest to home, however for the past couple years it has been impossible to come to this site. Children running around jumping and screening like a playground; spanish speaking people on the phone on speaker!! Most young people are in the "private rooms" using it for naps. It's a huge library. They hold events there every weekend and a movie night. Might take advantage of that, because of the free popcorn. We went there Saturday for an eco art event with an artist. We thought it was to create art, but it ended up being an environmental activity. Not that I mind, but it wasn't what was advertised. Not sure if that's the fault of the library or PR. Anyways, the kids had fun and enjoyed every minute, so that's why I'm giving 5 stars. read more

We made our way to West Dade Regional library after reading the glowing reviews for this library on miamionthecheap.com. It used the words: sprawling, must-see, huge children's area, and rain forest theme. We came here in hopes of finding a new, child-friendly, air-conditioned place to entertain a two year old. We were SUPER disappointed. I guess I might be used to larger and better designed libraries on the west coast. Other than being two stories, this library is not sprawling or must-see. This library (especially the children's area) was a bit depressing. There was a loud, temporary air conditioner thing that was extremely distracting, but I'm glad it was cool inside. There are 2.5 out of 4 young children's computers functioning. They are super slow and the programs are really old and not that engaging for kids. I do, however, appreciate the existence of them for young kids who just like to bang on keyboards. Outside the library there is a small playground and shaded picnic tables which would be great to use when the weather is cooler. Overall, I wish the libraries in South Florida were better funded, better designed, and had longer operating hours. read more

I enjoy coming here to study or simply to check out a good book. Because this library is so close to home, I always find myself coming here to study anytime I have an exam or have work to do. This library is large compared to the other local library's. There definitely is a wide selection of books to pick from. There are also plenty of tables where you can set all your things. They also have plug ins on the floor so you can charge your electronics. The reason I give it four stars out of five is because sometimes it can get noisy. This can be very distracting for those who are trying to study or read in silence. I think that's something that should definitely be implemented more. There have been times where I've gone and people are working in groups and not taking in consideration of the people around them. This library also have a various of events that go on weekly. There are different classes such as ones that kids can participate in, there's tutoring and even citizenship classes. As for the staff, everyone there is really nice and helpful! read more

This is not just a public library, this is a Regional Public Library, with a large structure resembling the federal buildings in downtown Miami and proving, once more, that "big brother" is everywhere and watching, according to Orwell. The area is surrounded with lots of greenery and sprinkled with sculptures that, to my taste, were on sale or were donated and deducted from some bureaucrat's income tax. Also in the vicinity, a playground was built for little kids to play and interact, and a walkway is available for people to stroll or jog. The walkway is also used by kids who want to ride their bikes, and people who want to walk their dogs. Not too far and within walking distance, a fire station watches over and protects the library from fire. This two story building hosts several collections, some large and some small. The collection of DVDs is large, although a lot of those DVDs are poor quality or scratched. There is a good collection of Manga, comic books and graphic novels, and a pretty good collection of travel books. However, there are two collections that are almost at par with the Main Library. One is the periodicals, with lots of magazines on almost every subject, and newspapers and magazines in different languages, including Spanish, to cater to the nearby community. The second area that is outstanding is the kids section, which occupies two rooms in the second floor. Here kids are free to walk around and to read with an adult. Not to get it confused with a playground or a nursery, kids need to be supervised at all times, specially toddlers, because if they make a run for the exit there is a long set of stairs going down waiting for them. This library also has lots of cubicles for people to work in peace and quiet. There are some tables where people can sit in a group, but not in a private area where you could talk and discuss projects or presentations. Some private rooms are available, but for one person only. Wi-fi, PCs and photocopiers are also available. Lastly, just like the Main Library, there is a cart that serves coffee and pastries until the library closes. If you are hungry or thirsty, you can take advantage of the cart. Depending on the sensitivity of your ears, you may want to seat as far as possible because the coffee machine is louder than a diesel engine. I am a big fan of MDPLS ever since I've been attending their online events back in December of last year. I decided to explore the libraries and this was one of them to explore. First of all, it is very big on the outside and inside. There is a first and second floor and as soon as you entered, the desk was to your left. The first floor was with study rooms and a large variety of books. Also, a vending machine. Everything was pretty quiet most of the time. The second floor was the same thing except there is a kids playing area and no vending machines. I went here a while ago so my review on how the library looks may be not accurate. The staff was nice and checked out my books without any problems. I said bye and went out the door happy. Recommend if you're near the area and is either a bookworm or big fan of MDPLS like me. read more

The hours are fairly good, the location is good, the building is large, there is plenty of seating, plenty of parking, and it's set next to a nice park and near to the fire department. Those are all enough to move it up a few points. However, the interior is very dirty and shows years of mold and soil, a fact that shows in the lobby and even worse in the restrooms. We love the Story Time program that runs on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:15 PM. My my 2-year-old daughter and I have been attending these sessions since the month of January this year, and she loves it! I like how prepared Maria and her crew are and how she carefully designs each session according to a theme, the selection of books and songs they choose to present, and the rest of hands-on activities they do with the children. I also like the table with books at the entrance of the room and how they design it according to a monthly theme. Regarding the library staff, I like their professionalism and their friendliness, and how they always have a smile on their face. I really can tell they take pride on what they do, and they do it with LOVE. So, please, keep the great work. It is very much appreciated! read more
