I thought I would get a quote for my stairwell to have laminate flooring put down. Six steps there's a small landing another six stairs and a medium size landing $2700 and I was told that he special ordered and made the laminate steps that I requested and gave me a big story on it. So I decided to get another estimate in priced it out at Floor and Decor in Kendall. They sell it right off the shelf. He's $1000 or better overpriced. His prices jobs high but doesn't do the work he subs it out just thought you should know. RESPONSE: David, there are a total of 12 steps not 14 steps with a small landing and a medium size landing. All quotes include demolition, insulation of new furring strips and flush stair treads (not the overlapping ones), materials and labor. There was no need for "custom fabrication of flush stair treads." (just fancy wording for the less knowledgeable) That is "standard" with ANY laminate job. And while we are on topic of standard. When ever I've had bathroom tile work done it always included finishing trim and drywall. I had the additional expense of hiring someone else to do that because you don't. And being that I purchased and supplied all the tile your cost was way out of line. Back to the stairs quote. The laminate is a 10mm from Floor & Decor not 5.5 mm "special order" that you are claiming for the Coffee cream. And the person hired is also licensed and does the work themselves with a helper. They are also a pretty successful business owners. The only difference is they are $1200.00 less then you are and included the top landing. The "second" floor hallway you refer to is a small in comparison landing, not in anyway a hall-way and no one in the right mind would quote two sets of 6 stairs and small landing and not include the top "landing" (not hall way!). David, your a nice guy and you've grown a nice business on peoples lack of knowledge. However, you are way over priced which I can understand since you need to pay your individual contractors (not full time payroll employees with benefits which is considered a misclassification on your part) as well as pay for your own time of "overseeing" a project. Your home address is your place of business sir. I know you have a business license but do you have a "Contractor's" license? Because your actually acting as a contractor. In any case, I wish you well but I don't like being taken as a fool. I only hope others price out jobs and double check your "expert" claims. I did and it was well worth my time.
