It took me quite a while to get served because the guy behind the counter was busy chatting to a friend. But all this specialness doesn't come cheap, with sandwiches beginning around the £4 mark it is maybe okay just for once or if your feeling crazy twice a week. This Brazennose Street offering (remember how much I like Brazennose Street, remember, and not just because of its strange name) has everything you could want in store, from grab and go sandwiches to gourmet soups, cakes and puddings to piping hot coffee, and, well, wouldn't you know it, sandwiches made to order. Just exactly what you fancy. I find this confusing as I'm rubbish with a large variety of choice, but I know that you real proper people will find that just stunning. I myself prefer to take a template and add some of my own accessories. I need at least a base sandwich to start with. Just like with pizza. But the BF is the exact opposite and relishes in 'making his own', so this is perfect for those types. As you'd imagine the office crowd love this place at lunchtime so get there early to avoid disappointment. Plus there are all sorts of seasonal specials, with three exclusive offers to choose from each day. But here it's easy there is plenty of staff so you can bide your time and truly consider what it will be. A huge selection may keep you going for some time and you can have it in brown, white, bap you name it. My personal choice sits with the glorious coronation chicken in a baguette. Therefore do ring beforehand but not during lunch as they won't answer the phone! The reason why people flock here is the Shark Special. It has chicken, mushrooms, onions with a spicy mayonnaise on a toasted hoagie. It has to be tried! If you are on the tram, stop off at Brooklands and grab a shark special (named after the rugby club which used to train nearby).

This branch, set off from both Deansgate and St Ann's Square, is hidden from the public eye. It's small but actually well set out; there are no chairs or tables in your way and most tables are two seaters, recognising the general eating habits of the working people. There's something quite odd/guilt inducing about sitting on a four seater if there is only one or two of you. Due to the size there is no 'fast track' till point found in some EAT branches, meaning you know where you're going and what you're going there for. To the till, to pay. Food is standard EAT fayre - salads, baguettes, soups, and even hot pies. Sadly I didn't spot the behind-the-till soup or pies until I'd got there and handed my panini over for heating. Sigh, I'll just have to go again. My mexican chicken panini, chosen based on no mayonnaise and some additional veggies, was actually pretty tasty, with black beans and sweetcorn making me feel a touch healthier, though soft white bread always makes me feel heavy and a tad guilty during the afternoon.
