During my initial call, I informed the firm that I no longer required their services and requested a refund of my deposit. Despite this, I was later sent a bill for more than half of my deposit. The invoice included a charge for 1.7 hours of "prep" work by a new attorney, Ian, who, to my understanding, had not previously prepared for ANY case. I was also charged for an attempted contact after I had already informed the firm that I would not be available until the following week. I find this very concerning. If a new attorney was assigned to my matter, I would have expected that attorney to receive appropriate guidance, coaching, or at least a clear outline on how to proceed before billing me for preparation time. Instead, I feel I was charged for work that did not meaningfully move my matter forward, especially after I had already stated that I no longer wished to continue with services. Based on this experience, I will not be using JC Law again, and I would not recommend this firm to my veteran friends or colleagues. As a veteran seeking guidance during a difficult financial situation, I expected a higher level of communication, professionalism, and fairness. If this is how veterans are treated, it raises serious concerns about how other clients may be treated as well.
