My husband and I did our first maternity photoshoot at Michael Anthony's Photography Studio in Valencia, CA, and honestly it was such a great experience from start to finish. We were a little nervous going in, but Gwen made everything feel so easy and comfortable right away. She had the best music playing and created such a fun, relaxed vibe that we were actually enjoying ourselves the whole time instead of feeling awkward. She guided us naturally and made the whole shoot feel effortless. Courtney, the Art Director, was also amazing. She helped bring everything together and made sure every detail looked perfect. She even recommended Olive Terrace just five minutes away from the studio. It was so good and such a nice little bonus to our day. When we saw the photos, we were honestly blown away. Really enjoyed my experience doing a complimentary photo shoot for my senior dog with Michael Anthony photography. Courtney was super kind and personable and the photographer and the other woman helping were both very nice too (forget their names, sorry). I did feel like the photographer got frustrated with my dog because he had a little bit of a hard time toward the end of the shoot especially, but that's understandable. The photos were beautiful and I wish I could have purchased digital copies but the prices were really far outside my budget. They do offer payment plans which is great for someone who was planning on adding this to their budget but I really was not because it was supposed to be a complimentary shoot, so unfortunately I wasn't able to purchase anything. I am grateful to get the one print photo included in their promotion though. Overall it was a really nice experience but I was a little thrown off by the prices. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this one was important to share my experience with this studio so others can make an informed decision. While our actual photo session was enjoyable, the overall experience was marked by high-pressure sales tactics, poor communication, and disappointing follow-through. We were required to make all purchasing decisions during a single 30-minute Zoom call, with the threat that the images would be deleted if we didn't commit. I was also encouraged to apply for financing before even seeing the photos, and the pricing was extremely inflated. Digital files were initially only offered in low-resolution "social media" format, not suitable for printing or archiving. After follow-up, we were sent higher-resolution files--but even those were only good for prints up to 8x10, clearly structured to push customers into buying physical products exclusively through them. To make matters worse, the photographer we were assigned was not the one advertised when we booked, and the session felt rushed. After placing our nearly $1,500 order, communication became nearly nonexistent. I had to follow up multiple times just to get updates. Despite confirming our shipping address twice, our package was sent to the wrong address, and no tracking information was ever provided. When the prints finally arrived, two were so dark one of our dogs was barely visible. The studio acknowledged the issue and promised reprints, but despite following up in February and again in April, we've still received no response and no replacements--MONTHS later. This has been one of the most disappointing customer experiences I've had--especially at this price point. I cannot recommend this studio. Be forewarned: you can find equal or better photo quality for a fraction of the price from professionals who actually care about your experience after you've paid. read more

On February 1st, I went to a photoshoot with my Pomeranian, Jolie, after we won a promotional doggie-and-mommy photoshoot on Instagram. The experience was seamless, fast, and offered a great variety of shots. Our photographer made the session enjoyable, and the photos came out absolutely amazing! The ladies at the studio were very helpful and accommodating. While I hadn't asked about pricing beforehand--and it ended up being out of my budget since it was my first professional photoshoot--I would still recommend them for the quality and experience. Fantastic and friendly experience with great photos at the end! My photography session with my dog was with Courtney (not Michael Anthony) from start to finish, including the actual photo taking and she was great! Courtney put me at ease, gave easy directions for the best angles and even managed to get my dog to look at the camera which she never does. The studio was a bit hot (it's located in Valencia and I don't think the AC did much) but fortunately we got all the shots before I actually started sweating. After your photo session, when the photos are ready, you have a Zoom call to go over the photos and pick out your package. I was surprised at how many photos I liked! The photo packages are not cheap but you get beautiful quality prints at the end. There are many options to choose from in terms of package and finish. All in all, this experience, my first professional photography session, was a good one and I highly recommend it. PS: and they recommend a hair blowout place nearby that I also recommend to get your hair done and be able to drive 10min to the studio. read more

As a creative director in advertising, I've worked with many photographers over the years. When I first came across this studio, I noticed some red flags early on. They initially targeted me through Instagram with a promotion for a complimentary photoshoot, including a $300 credit for mothers and newborns. After signing up, they immediately scheduled an appointment for me. I traveled over an hour outside of LA for the session with my newborn, expecting a high level of professionalism and expertise. Michael Anthony was not our photographer-instead, we were assigned his assistant photographer, Courtney. While Courtney was friendly and accommodating, I felt she lacked the experience necessary for newborn photography. There were no toys or props to capture my baby's attention, and she did not adjust her positioning to meet his eye line, so he was not looking at the camera in any photos. While I understand taking photos of babies is difficult, I would any photographer in this position be able to capture at least a couple of good snapshot. Additionally, some of the suggested poses did not seem suitable for an infant, such as positioning him on the edge of a couch when he cannot even hold up his own head up. The choice of backdrops and colors also felt mismatched. We were dressed in light blue, yet the backdrop and furniture were a deep brown. Not the biggest fan of this color combo. After the shoot, instead of receiving a standard online gallery to review the images, we were asked to attend a Zoom call. In my 15-year career, I have always been provided with watermarked images on a website for review, so this felt unusual. Viewing photos over Zoom limited our ability to really see the quality. We also couldn't zoom in on any images ourselves, though Courtney was accommodating upon request. The most concerning part of the experience was the pricing structure. We were informed that digital copies were only available for purchase as part of a package, with the lowest option starting at $1,200. These packages primarily included large canvas and acrylic prints, which were not items we were interested in. Even their printed cards came with an expensive custom box that required an additional purchase. Furthermore, we were only allowed to view the images once and were expected to make a decision immediately during the call. There was no option to take a day or two to consider the purchase, which felt like a high-pressure sales tactic. If you chose not to purchase anything on the spot, you would not be given another opportunity. This really made me feel backed into a corner to make rash decisions on something I felt was pretty expensive to begin with. Ultimately, we decided not to make a purchase, as the best offer available was $800 for just five digital photos--far above market rates in LA, where photographers of similar or higher caliber often provide 20+ images for $600-$800. What was advertised as a complimentary experience ended up being far beyond our budget and way below my expectations. Unfortunately it felt like a big bait and switch and ended up being a significant waste of time. I was desperate for photos with my senior dog--she's in a wheelchair and has kidney failure, and I just wanted to capture these last moments. I ended up paying $200 for just one photo, even though I couldn't afford anything more. They pushed financing plans, but I couldn't afford it. We came in for the "free father daughter portrait session" and after spending 45 min getting amazing photos of our 18 month old daughter, we waited in the waiting room for 30 min. With two kids who were hungry, we were told it was 1500 dollars for five digital images and we had to pick our photos then and there. They would not let us review watermarked photos, so we rushed a selection and left. There were so many great photos, but that pricing is way past industry standard. They did not provide any pricing prior to the visit and was a complete scan. Spend your money on an independent photographer who doesn't use deceptive advertising and waste everyone's time. read more

I have never left a negative review before, but I wouldn't want anyone's special memories to be affected by Michael Anthony Photography in Valencia California the way it impacted mine and my husband's. Specially after seeing that other people have had similar issues with this studio. The maternity photo session with Courtney was overall nice and some of the photos were beautiful, but the rest of the process was absolutely awful. First, they are misleading by not disclosing their high prices upfront and putting the pressure to make a purchasing decisions during a 30-minute meeting right after the photoshoot. After placing our nearly $ 3,000 order, communication became nonexistent. Until I followed up to get updates after my baby was released from the hospital which was 4 months after the shoot. Despite confirming our address multiple times on site and through emails, they claimed that my package was "provably sent to the wrong address", and no tracking information was ever provided. Courtney then called saying that a new order was placed and we now have to wait a few more weeks which now marks 6 months since the photoshoot. She highlighted that it took this long because I did not follow up before even though I did. Also, mentioned the financial impact they "took for sending my order twice". I have never seen someone mail a packet especially of this price without some sort of insurance and tracking records. I call that BS, even SHEIN provides tracking these days. Now, we also worry that if they did mail the "first order" to a different address, some random person has very intimate photos of my husband and me. This has been by far the most disappointing customer experiences I've had at this price point. I am used to paying high prices for great service. read more

I'm sharing this because I don't want another bride and groom to go through what we did, and I truly hope they take this as feedback to do better. My husband and I booked them early in our wedding planning. We loved their style and presentation, and we felt strongly that investing in a great photographer was worth it--after all, photos are what you have left to remember your wedding. We discovered them on Instagram through our venue, compared others, and nothing came close. After a Zoom call that impressed us even more, we booked their highest package right away. We were told our package included a free engagement shoot to help us get comfortable in front of the camera. Following their advice, we scheduled it closer to our wedding. We drove nearly two hours through L.A. traffic to Pasadena, arrived at the location, and waited. The spot was busy with other photographers, and we kept thinking, one of these has to be ours. We called and emailed the office when no one showed, only to be told they'd "get back to us." Because they didn't communicate clearly with us, we didn't leave the area. We stayed nearby and grabbed something to eat--just in case they were stuck in traffic and might still show up. We kept checking our phones, hoping for an update. It wasn't until hours later, while we were eating, that we finally got a phone call directly from the photographer herself, not the office. She apologized and explained there had been a scheduling mix‑up--she had us on her calendar for a completely different date. The office later emailed apologizing and offered me a credit since I had already done my hair and makeup for nothing. A few weeks later we rescheduled, and this time the shoot was wonderful. The photographer we worked with that day was truly the highlight of this entire experience--she was witty, brilliant, and so talented. We left that day excited and confident about our choice. Fast forward to two months before our wedding--they emailed to set up a Zoom call to show us our engagement photos. We were thrilled to see them, and they were amazing. I wanted to print some for our home and even use some for the wedding. But then came the cost--an amount high enough that we simply couldn't add it to our already tight budget that close to the wedding. What frustrated us most was learning they offer payment plans for these photos, but only if you commit during that presentation. Because they advised us to do the shoot closer to our wedding, we had no time to plan or save for that added cost. We felt blindsided and honestly, pretty stupid. If we'd known upfront, we would have done things differently. To this day, I still don't have those engagement photos even though they were beautiful, because the whole process felt like they just wanted more money from us instead of truly working with us. Closer to the wedding, we spent weeks perfecting our day‑of timeline with our coordinator. When we shared it with Michael Anthony Photography, they weren't happy and essentially tried to pressure us into following their preferences instead. I understand they're professionals and I respect their advice, but at the end of the day, it's our event--and we shouldn't be made to feel guilty for wanting things a certain way. Our wedding day came, and yes, they delivered beautiful photos and were professional on site. Afterward, they emailed saying we'd have our photos in four weeks. Instead, it took over two more months. It was wedding season, so I gave them grace, but the lack of communication was frustrating. When the photos were finally ready, they insisted we drive out to their location in person to view them on a TV. That felt unnecessary and like a waste of time and gas--this could've easily been done via Zoom. After that presentation, we were hit with more upsells: giant wall prints, parent albums, and more products, all at an additional cost. And after spending so much on their highest package, to find out their signature edits weren't even included was beyond frustrating. What was included was a "free" coffee table book and a 90‑day gallery, but by then I was so upset I never even ordered the book. We just downloaded the photos and moved on. In the end, the photographer herself was the best part of our whole experience, but the office management and the way the business is run made the entire process feel like a money grab. At no point did we feel like they genuinely cared about making us feel special on such an important day. What was supposed to be an amazing memory honestly still makes me sad to this day. I hope Michael Anthony Photography takes this to heart and does better--for the next couple who puts their trust (and their budget) in their hands. read more
