Michael Drews took over the practice of CPA Steve Freeman. Freeman was wonderful, but what a mistake staying with Drews. Prices doubled, and quality went out the window. I waited an hour while a staffer went to "pick up her dog from the groomer" during business hours. Is this a way to run a business? Staff had no idea what or why they were charging what they did. Two corporate returns and a personal return, yet I never met Michael Drews nor received a response despite repeated requests to his staff. Apparently it was too tough to pick up the phone. No shortage of advertising and investment solicitations from the company, however. Very dissatisfied. Not a company I want to, or will do, business with. From the negative reviews posted, there seems to be unhappy customers. Time to review your business practices. read more

Mike has been my accountant since 2006 and I've had nothing but a warm professional experience, with himself and his staff. Sure, if you're looking for a bottom-barrel cheap accountant, then he's not the guy for you. But to leave the guy one star because he was "too expensive"? Even after he honored the other company's price? A stupid customer. I don't believe most of the one-stars to even be real. This firm purchased Steve Freeman's firm last year and it's been downhill ever since. I tried to access my data which used to be readily available but it all disappeared. When I called multiple times to resolve, everyone I spoke to had no idea why I couldn't see it and made no effort to resolve. I will be taking my business to a more competent and caring group. I would avoid since they have no interest in keeping customers. Apparently the business is doing so well, they don't need to retain existing clients. Our accountant of many years retired and sold his practice to Mr. Drews. Mr. Drews then sent a letter shortly after the acquisition that he was dropping many off the other accountant clients as of August 31 however I didn't receive the letter till September 7. I run a business and give my clients the courtesy of a 30-day notice if things are changing apparent Mr. Drews does not believe in being courteous furthermore when he completed our business taxes they were incorrect and trying to get Mr. Drews firm to make the corrections was like pulling teeth. I would not recommend this firm unless you don't care what kind of service you get. read more

We were referred to Michael Drews to file our income tax by our CPA due to his retirement. We trusted him and did not check Michael Drew's reference, a big mistake! Michael Drews had submitted our taxes but they were rejected by the IRS. Michael Drews did not inform us at the time as we thought our taxes were submitted properly and accepted as previous years by our former CPA. A year later we received a notification from the IRS informing us that we had not filed our taxes. When we contacted Michael Drews to find out why our taxes had not been filed, Michael Drews claimed that he had no way of knowing that they had been rejected! This seems odd because when we had filed our taxes in the past and when they were rejected, the IRS notified us immediately. As a CPA, Michael Drews did not bother to make sure our taxes was submitted successfully, he lied about not knowing about the rejection notice from IRS; and he did not follow up to resubmit our taxes after receiving the rejection notification from IRS. Needless to say, our experience with Michael Drews was horrific and unpleasant! Upon looking at the work Michael Drews did a year later, we found many mistakes that Michael Drews made on our taxes. We paid him over $2K and the mistakes he made were inexcusable. He did not pay attention to the details as any competent accountant should. It appeared that he was only interested to crank them out as fast as possible so he can get paid, whether the numbers were correct or not. He did not bother to make sure the taxes were submitted to and accepted by the IRS. We ended up having to resubmit our income taxes one year late ourselves. Michael Drews claimed that he could not do anything about that and he gave us a disk with our tax information, that was when we found out all the mistakes he did. He did not even offer to resubmit our taxes even though we paid him over $2K the year before to file our income tax Bottom line, find another CPA to do your taxes, there has to be competent ones out there! I would give Michael Drews a zero star rating if I could. read more

I was one that was transferred when my accountant retired and I was moved over to Michael. When my taxes were completed I was told they would be 350.00 without notice. They did honor what I paid for the past 2 years but, would not in the future. Nice guy but, you can find way better prices than 350.00 way too expensive for 1 W2 form. read more

We've been a client of Freeman & Associates in thousand oaks for years and always got a killer deal for a complex return so when Michael Drews took over Freeman I knew those days were gone. I called the office and was told that prices had gone up to standard industry and gave me a new price based on my 2020 return and as I expected the price was doubled however the nice lady on the phone told me they would work with us for 2021 and that would give us time to look around to see what other CPA's charged. I've never had a problem with the staff in the office, they are very friendly and helpful so I wanted to continue with them. My taxes got filed and I was very happy with everything. After talking to co-workers and friends I realized that the new prices are very fair and how cheap Steve really was. Reading these comments about people complaining about the prices have no idea what a normal CPA firm would charge. I look forwarded to continue working with Michael Drews and hopefully next year we can have a in person meeting and meet him. read more

Mike has been preparing my taxes for three or more years with no problems to speak of. Recently, however, he purchased the clientele of another accountant that was retiring from the business. I later found out that Mikes fees had increased (with no forewarning). Perhaps this is due to his new acquisition of a larger office and staff? My husband retired and had a retirement fund that we needed to place in an investment portfolio. Mike, as an investment advisor, seemed the logical choice. Not the right choice as we are later finding out! He was not actively watching our portfolio and after six months or longer, we had to mention to him that one particular investment was on a steady decline. He agreed that he hadn't noticed until we brought it to his attention. Stocks were sold off and reinvested. As a retiree, we depend on a distribution that we set up to occur for a certain amount to be transferred on a certain day. Mike, however, elected to take off on a vacation without giving thought to the fact that monies needed to be in place in order for this transaction to occur. Days later, after calling and bringing this to his attention, we finally received our distribution. I spoke with Mike to address these issues and express my concerns about the fact that he has not been pro-active as a financial advisor and that my husband would be contacting him the next day. Four phone calls later, Mike still has not returned my husband's phone calls, yet he has the responsibility of managing our financial future! We have also discovered that he transacted a recent stock sale to cover our distribution for another three or four months. This money could have been making money for us, but now sits in a cash account doing nothing! Mike is a nice guy, but sometimes nice guys are not what we need to be looking at when it comes to managing a person's financial future. We will now look for someone with expertise and a genuine interest in being a true professional financial advisor with the client's best interest in mind at all times! read more

I used Michael Drews CPA for five years and trusted him with all my accounting needs. I thought we had built up a friendship and a business acquaintance, but was I ever wrong. He told me to go see a different accountant. I've heard of customers firing their accountants but not vise-versa. I was forced to go to another accountant that I'm extremely happy with but I did have to pay the IRS $33,339.23 for all the mistakes he made. I met with this CPA for the first time this year. He spoke to me for roughly 15 minutes and it was $300.00. I am a teacher and he neglected to place that on my taxes. His error, when I called him on it he told me, "not a big enough error to re-do the taxes, in the end your deduction would have only been something like $40 dollars". Yes, that was his reponse. What if I had only paid him $260.00 for his services? I guess the $40.00 would have meant something, right? He does not return phone calls or e-mails. I will not be working with this man again. He had an opprtunity to deduct the error off my payment to him, or offer me credit for next year. Poor business man. read more

He just said that, rudely, and waited for my response! I'm so glad I will NOT be working with them.
