If I could give this company zero stars I would. Typically, I try and limit my reviews to those that are more positive, but this company moved me to warn others. Pros, nice job upholstering two pillows. Cons, VERY expensive and took 2 months. But here's the bigger story. When I picked a fabric, Joel said it would be at least 10 weeks. I was fine with that, and made a calendar reminder to call him at 10 weeks for status. At 10 weeks I made a friendly call to check in, and he said it was going to be a couple more weeks. I was fine with that, too. But then for some reason things start to go sideways. He goes on to say "I TOLD you it was going to be 12 weeks, and that's what the contract terms were that YOU signed." I was a bit taken aback with the tone. I didn't argue. I did remind him that he had told me 10 weeks, but that it was okay because I was leaving town and there was no rush. So 2 weeks go by, Joel calls and tells me they are ready for pick up. Great. So far, so good. I tell him I'll be there on Friday. Friday I totally forgot to pick them up due to family issues and trying to leave town, and my bad for not calling him to change the pick up date. I felt awful about it. On Tuesday he calls me and starts screaming at me - I am not exaggerating - screaming that I was supposed to pick up the pillows, I need to pick them up immediately or have someone get them for me, he charges $20 per day for "storage" fees, and after "you calling repeatedly and bugging me the least you could do was pick them up on time." Things were escalating and I asked if he was kidding, and perhaps he had me mixed me up with another customer, as I had only called once and it had been a friendly chat. I apologized for not calling him on Friday to pick them up. He insisted that I had called repeatedly and bugged him "I even have your recorded messages!!!!" He kept interrupting me "now you listen to me!" he said. He was clearly out of control, so I told him I would pick up the pillows on Thursday and hung up. I got the pillows as promised on Thursday and he tried to make small talk. No contrition. No apology. Just acted like it hadn't happened. I would recommend you find someone else to help you with your upholstery needs who doesn't have anger management issues. Someone who will not charge you over $600 for two small pillows and then go off on you. read more

I had an antique chair that has been in my family for decades re-upholstered by Joel at Michael Talbert Upholstery. He was very professional and polite in each interaction we had. He was timely in his response to my inquiries as well as getting my chair back to me within the discussed time frame. He did a beautiful upholstery job that exceeded my expectations. BUYER BEWARE - I rarely write reviews but I wish others had warned me. I needed a bench cushion made, met with Joel to select the fabric and get an estimate. He verified with the supplier that the fabric was in stock and he told me it would take 8-10 weeks to complete. He asked for 50% down but only accepted cash or checks so I came back back a second time to pay. He called two days later saying the cost of the fabric would be double because there was a minimum order amount and "he was not about to get stuck with the rest". The fabric was already quite expensive ($ 336 for 1.5 yrd) so I could not justify spending over $ 600 for the fabric alone. I went back a third time to select another fabric without a minimum order requirement. After 10 weeks and not hearing from him, I reached out to check on the timeline. I left two messages and finally received a call back a week later. He was very defensive, saying that he had been on vacation for a week, and stating that he would not have promised 8-10 weeks and that I was obviously confused. I asked if two more weeks were reasonable to get the cushion, he rudely said there was no way for him to know as all his products are custom made. As a last insult, when it was finally ready, he would not accept anything smaller than $20 bills for the remaining balance of $113 because "he would not know what to do with a bunch of ones and fives". Wow! And that's his level of customer service. At first, I thought he was just having a bad day but he seemed to have his fair share of bad days. Lucky for him he has a wonderful man working for him who expressed his empathy when I later went back with $20 bills. Needless to say, there are a number of other upholstery businesses in town that I would choose going there. read more

We have used Talbert upholstery for over 15 years. They have reupholstered our custom length couch twice. Each time it looked as good as new. Since then we've had them do chairs and cushions. They are real pros and have lots of options in leather and fabric to choose from. read more

Michael Talbert's Upholstery does excellent work!! I had vintage channel chair that badly needed to be reupholstered. I kept putting if off. Talbert's Upholstery is in my neighborhood, and I had driven past it countless times and kept thinking to myself, "I need to call these people". Well, 10 years later, I finally called them and I just can't tell you happy I am that I did! I received a quote right away from Joel - I compared it to other quotes I received and his quote was very reasonable. Some of the others never got back to me, and those that did, their estimates were sky high and so I assumed they didn't not want the job. I spoke to Joel about the color I wanted, and also the type and texture of the fabric, and he provided me with many sample books and allowed me to take them home to browse through for several days. My husband and I picked out the fabric we liked, left the chair and a deposit, and a week or two later, voila - our chair had transformed into this beautiful new piece of rejuvenated furniture and took on a whole new personality. I just love, love, love this chair. The workmanship is exquisite, and I appreciate the way they paid attention to the details. I know absolutely nothing about upholstery, and for that matter, any type of sewing, but it seems to me that with a channel chair, mistakes will show - the channels need to be even and aligned so I was very impressed by how perfect the channeling was done. I also talked to Joel about refinishing the chair. We didn't know what we would find underneath but when they stripped off the dingy, chipped white paint, it turned out the wood was a beautiful hard wood with a nice, natural grain. The refinishing job was also beautiful and done with care. It fits right in with the rest of my furniture. The bottom line - if you have a favorite chair or other piece of furniture you absolutely love that has seen better days - I would highly recommend Talbert's. read more
