I came by for some picture frames for some almost odd sized but definitely less commonly ratio'd art. It took some browsing but they had it and at multiple price points. I went with some low end frames to get the job done and save a pretty penny. They also have custom framing but that's not the kind of investment I want to make in playroom art just yet. They have a beautiful assortment of home decor and it changes ultra frequently. Right now they have a lot of mahjong decor which I didn't know was trending right now but it's certainly giving off Southern Living vibes. The attendant for the self checkout area was helpful and came over to help me cancel out a duplicate swipe before I even needed to flag her down. I was impressed with the customer service being so friendly and helpful. I like Michael's for what it's good at. Cute Halloween decorations, general crafting stuff, party supplies. Unfortunately my first experience getting fabric here since Joann closed was a miss. I have worked at a fabric store before so I know how fabric should be cut. I understand they are just starting to roll out fabric so I sincerely hope they get better training in the future. The selection of fabric at this store is also much better than the southside store so that is nice. I hope to see more flannel in general, especially more solids since so many of us use it to back blankets and quilts. I'll definitely try again in the future, hopefully they work on fabric cutting a bit. read more

My wife always drags me here. In decades, I've never shopped her of my own free will. But it's a great place for crafts, arts, decorations, painting, and such. I enjoy the holiday displays especially. They have a wide selection of holiday decorations and crafts and items. All very interesting and stuff not found anywhere else in Anchorage. read more

Michael's in Anchorage is the typical, obligatory craft store. The store is usually clean and the customer service is fair. I have noticed some of the associates could use some training in customer service skills. My biggest criticism with this store is their stock and availability, it is lacking in several areas. I realize that being in Alaska poses some issues with availability but it seems worse at Michaels than many of the other stores in town. They also tend to not order much of the seasonal items so it goes really fast when they do get items in. I'd think with little to no competition from other craft stores they'd be able to know the audience and keep a well stocked store but it seems the opposite effect, likely not ordering as much stock for fear of having it left over and storing or going to clearance. Not a horrible store to visit but also no other viable options to shop for crafts and the like. read more

This is such a small Michael's... I guess I'm a spoiled brat. The lower 48 has much better ones. But you can pretty much find all your requisite craft supplies here. I sometimes prefer Joann Fabrics, depending on what it is I'm looking for. Coupons are a necessity though since everything is vastly overpriced... Seasonal stuff should only be purchased after the holidays when its deeply discounted. The bead and yarn department are dangerous places... so many pretty things to choose from. Ah! Glenn Square! I wound up here by default, having gotten a little lost. I tend to forget that this shopping center is here. I said to myself, "Oh look! A Michael's!" and I had to swing in. Wow! This store is so much more clean and neat than the other Michael's stores I have visited in town. One troublesome detail however, for me, is that while attempting to focus on looking for one particular thing, I get caught up in blissful meandering while looking at everything else. Time can fly here. There were plenty of associates working the floor, but not a single one asked me if I needed help finding something. It was alright. I was there just for a general scope-out anyway. Perhaps a Spring project or two. The thought occurred to me that if I had to work there, I think I would lose my mind. As much as I love the creative, a store like this can be sensory overload. I did make a mental note to return, however, if only because the store is being well taken care of, thus making shopping so much more pleasurable. read more

I find Michael ' s to be pretty pricey, especially when I can find a similar product at Walmart for less. There's a nice variety of supplies for all your artistic needs. But again, the prices are not competitive. I will usually come here if I am in dire need of something and even then I'll search for a coupon. I rate this 3 instead of 4 stars due to the fact that shelves take a long time to restock. I'm sure this is hard since we're in Alaska but it's frustrating to enter a store with a specific item in mind and the shelf looks like the way you saw it a few days prior. I would love to more variety of Styrofoam wreaths. I'm so tired of seeing the empty racks.......In a perfect world. read more

Today I went to Michael's unknowing that there was a large sale going on. The store was packed and they had employees working the line to check people out faster. They were efficient, polite, friendly and still took the time to offer my military discount.
