I came to Oshawa to meet my friend. It's equidistant from where we both live. She recommended meeting where all the box stores are. I immediately saw Michaels when I pulled in and decided to visit it. I needed purple dye for my Converse sneakers. I was looking at the yarn and latch hook kits when my friend walked in. We both went searching for my purple fabric dye. We finally found it. As with most Michaels stores, it takes me longer to find what I need. She managed to find a decent mini garden rake that was on sale. I also wanted to look at the calligraphy section, but we couldn't find it! The cashier was cheerful and polite. Michaels is generally a great store, but this location in particular is very sub-par. They always seem to be severely understaffed; if you have a question, get ready to spend the next five minutes wandering the store to find someone who isn't at the cashier (only one person runs the cashier, which is slow to begin with). I go here at least twice a month, and I might get lucky 20% of the time and actually find someone within a minute who can help me. For a store this large, they generally only have one person in frames, one at the cashier, and one somewhere on the floor that turns your shopping experience into a scavenger hunt to find. I love Michaels, but this location really needs more people on the floor. It is extremely frustrating and the checkout is very slow. read more

I recently started collecting art prints and was recommended to try Michaels for framing. I took my favorite art print to this Michaels to get custom framed. I gave very specific instructions to be careful with the print as it was a collectible item and was valuable. Two weeks later I got my framed print back, and everything looked good. In the morning, I noticed a huge dent on the right side of my print, they had crumpled/damaged the print so it's value is now worthless and it looks bad and is very noticeable. Well, I bought the a silhouette curio from them two weeks ago, I asked for a discount, they said the coupon doesn't apply on silhouette products. Just after two weeks it was on sale for 229, I paid 249. The other thing, better watch when you return a product. I returned a product ( unopened, unused), to them, the guy made a mistake. I tried to get the return receipt, he refused saying he needed to talk to the manager. I went to one of the girls who claimed she is one the managers, I asked her I need the receipt I need to know how the HST was refunded. She refused. I called the head-office and after a chat, I got the copy, and guess what they refunded part of the money . When you get a refund make sure they don't deduct the items that you didn't pay a discount amount for them. Make sure you get full refund which will required you to look at the refund/return receipt , they won't give it to you unless you talk to a manager. read more
