The space where the class was held was extremely small and uncomfortably hot, and they didn't even offer something as simple as a glass of water. On top of that, they kept trying to sell their own buttercream and other products instead of focusing on teaching. It felt more like a sales pitch than a class. What frustrated me the most was that when it came time to decorate the cake, the instructor just did it for us instead of actually teaching us how to do it ourselves. That completely defeats the purpose of taking a class. This was a waste of time and money. I would not recommend it to anyone looking to genuinely learn baking skills. Jason specified it is a drop off class, so parents can't observe. I was allowed to go down where the class was during the last 10 min. Instructor chef Nicole was very friendly and told me how my kids do. They made dumplings, blanch veggies, noodles and biscuits. Kids were divided into small groups to cook different recipes. At the end there's the tasting where I joined. They will also give you the recipes to take home. Kids have tons of fun and would very much come back again. Overall, definitely recommend. She and her husband warmly welcomed us into their home and led us to a beautifully decorated table of what was described as a "welcome snack," but was actually a delicious feast in itself. There was Uzbek dried fruits, nuts, both sweet and savory pastries, and hot green tea. I loved the Uzbek raisins, which are bigger and juicier and just better than any raisins I've ever had! As we ate, Damira shared photos and stories of her family's life in Samarkand, an ancient city in Uzbekistan that lies on the silk road. Once we were all well-acquainted and nourished, we headed to the kitchen to cook the main feast. On the menu were homemade individual breads, spinach stuffed pastries, a spring cabbage salad, a cucumber potato salad, and a lamb stew. Damira was such a great teacher, demonstrating techniques before having us actively participate in the prep, cooking, and serving of each dish. She timed everything perfectly so that we had breaks and ate basically the entire afternoon, while continuing to engage us in stories of her home and culture. When we sat down for the final meal, the delicious food was somehow made even better from the meaningful connection we all shared while cooking it. The four and a half hour class flew by and while I didn't want to leave, I was very happy when we were each sent home with enough leftovers to last another two meals.

Another review mentioned that there was no wine, but you can bring your own if you choose to. I think someone brought a bottle of rum that they shared with the whole group when I went...I definitely had rum and coke that night. It's definitely a great experience!

The tour was led by Lauren. Lauren is enthusiastic and really appreciative of the city of San Francisco, and the culture that's in the Mission District. The Mission District is one of my favorite places in San Francisco for the culture and authenticity. The food was the reason for signing up for the tour, but learning more about the Missions history was something that stuck with me the most after the tour. I'm going to rate the places that we went in order of which places seemed to amaze me the most and which places I'll be going to again. 1) All Babas Cave - probably the best thing that I ate on the tour. We had a Falafel, which is something I've never tried or heard of. It tasted amazing and was a place that I would definitely be going again. 2) Taqueria Cancun - I'm biased because I love mexican food, especially in the Mission. I think it captures the different types of cultures and the authentic Mexican Food. It also was a plus that we were able to order a beer if we wanted too. What's better than a taco in the Mission with a beer? 3) Craftsman and Wolves - probably the smartest way to start the tour as it was a breakfast dish. It was a muffin with an egg in it, called the Rebel Within, and don't let it being number three on my list mean that it wasn't incredible. Something simple, yet so delicious. I'll definitely be going back there one day. 4) Pizzeria Delfino - I love pizza, and it was just another amazing type of pizza that you get in San Francisco. It tasted good, and was really glad that it was included in the tour but there are so many places for pizza in San Francisco and they don't have anything thats really different from all the other places. Good food, but nothing that special. 5) Tartine - the thing that amazed me the most about this place was the line was all around the building and the building had no sign on it. Your business must be a huge success if your line is filling the sidewalk and doesn't even have a sign on it. We had just a brownie, which was again nothing to special. It tasted like a regular brownie (which was still good.) I'll probably go back and see what else they have, because they must have some kickass food if the line is that big. As for the rest of the tour. Lauren did an amazing job and walking us in cool directions, walking off the food that we ate prior to the next stop. She gave us some history lessons on the mission district and San Francisco, and a lot of it made me highly want to take a history class again because there was a lot of really neat information. Lauren did a good job at keeping everyone entertained, and did an amazing job at being professional throughout the tour. I'd highly recommend everyone taking this tour. You'll learn a lot about an amazing city, in an amazing district and eat some really amazing dishes. Also, you'll more than likely make friends as you guys bond over all of it.

Tried out the San Francisco Mission food tour with two of my colleagues on a Saturday morning…read more There were also five other people on the tour along with our guide. We ended up eating at five locations with a break in between. The meeting point - Mission Playground: felt kind of in the middle of nowhere since we weren't actually informed of the places we were eating at beforehand. Still fairly convenient as it was about four blocks from the nearest BART station. Our guide briefed us about a little history of the Mission and encouraged us to take photos of the tour; the best photographer would get a sixth bonus tasting. Stop 1 - Craftsman and Wolves: a very busy place so there was no seating for our group, but we ended up at one of those nearby hipster parklets. We were each given a Rebel Within: a savory muffin with a soft boiled egg inside and Tabasco salt on the side. Very tasty and hearty enough to almost fill up some people. Stop 2 - Ali Baba's Cave: it was a fairly hot and sunny day, but before going inside the restaurant we got a lecture about the history of falafel while standing in the heat; very informative, but it could have waited until the group was seated. I've been to Ali Baba's before and knew the food was good, but had never tried the falafel sandwich. We ended up getting three of them, which we split into thirds. The sandwich as a whole was very fresh and savory, but the sauces and eggplant ended up masking much of the falafel's flavor. What really made this stop nice was lots of seating, allowing the group to introduce each other and get to know each other. Stop 3 - Taqueria Cancun: also a fairly packed place, but we were able to bus two tables as a few other groups left. We had a selection of three tacos: beef tongue, al pastor, or super veggie. It was also the only stop where you could buy beer separately from the tour's initial price. I picked a beef taco and declined drinking. Relatively mild and satisfactory taco, which actually worked well as a palette cleanser after the very robust falafel. Like the previous stop, this place stood out as it allowed the group to relax and chat while enjoying some good food. Break - The Women's Building: we got a bit of history of the building itself and what it was previously used for. The mural on the side of the building was quite exquisite, though trying to view it from top to bottom meant staring directly into the hot sun. There was also an implication that we'd actually see the interior of the building, but we headed off to more stops. Stop 4 - Pizzeria Delfina: another busy place too crowded for our group, so we waited on the sidewalk. We shared a fresh Margherita pizza. The cheese was amazing and we learned that it was made that day over in Berkeley. The staff at Delfina was giving us some strange looks as we hung out on the curb and discussed their cuisine. Stop 5 - Tartine: one of the most infamous bakeries in San Francisco, which meant there was a long line out the door. We once again waited out on the curb. We ended up trying the salted chocolate rye cookie, which was more or less a high quality brownie. A good way to wrap up the meal. We compared photos we had taken and the guide picked a winner who got free Bi-Rite ice cream around the corner. Overall a good tour with great people. I'd prefer in the future they choose more welcoming places like Ali Baba and Cancun over cramped shops with high quality food. Still, I'd highly recommend trying the tour with a few people you already know well.

We received a run down on how the machine works, learned how to thread the machine and how to fill the bobbins. Then we made a denim tote bag. This was super easy and really fast. After lunch break is the 2nd project. If you don't have your fabric, the school can sell you fabric directly inside for $16 a yard. I bought my fabric elsewhere and brought it in. I honestly recommend doing this instead of buying it from them. Because you have to wash your fabric like how you wash your laundry regularly since it shrinks naturally. We picked our patterns and I made a skirt since a skirt is faster than pants. They recommended not to make pockets or else I'll run out of time. But I HAD to add pockets. Women's clothing have little or no pockets regularly. The instructors are extremely helpful and friendly. and they immediately notice if someone is struggling or stuck. This really impressed me. For example, when I was threading the bobbin, the spool of thread was running out. The teacher was immediately behind me with a brand new spool of the same color so I can swap it out when it was finished. That was a great eye for detail! Overall, highly recommend. Just bring in your own 3 yards of cotton fabric, already washed and dried, for the 2nd project!
