I've never attended this place in person, but I decided to write down this review because I'm planning to join their Criminal Justice program for my master's degree soon. I found this place to be unique with their degree programs. The admissions counselors were really amazing with their job, and they were also sympathetic with me when I told them about something traumatic that I went through when I was 18. I can't wait to get their Master's degrees in Cyber-crime and Digital Investigations, along with a Law Enforcement Intelligence and Analyst. Basically a dual degree. read more

My brother in law attended this school to get his PhD in mathematics. My family visited the school numerous times over a 5 year period. I found the place to be immaculately clean and all the landscaping was well kept. Trees were always wrll trimmed. The buildings were well kept. The faculty are amazing. I loved their swimming pool facilities. I almost wish I had gone to school here. They have soo many different areas of study.. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. read more

If there is an option with negative hundred I would like to give that their business office doesn't deserve the one star I have to use in order to write the review. My daughter dropped off MSU since August and her status with FAFSA still open we contacted them 4 times a week either me or my daughter, they don't know what's going on in their work or what they are doing now I have trauma called MSU, you don't know how is very hard to reach them they hang up on you very easily either you have to wait for an hour then they throw their mistake into different office such as telling you contact registration office or billing office and me and my daughter keep calling everyone in MSU without solving her issue since August 2021 my daughter never accessed any classes at MSU never used their loan or fafsa but her status and fafsa still open that unable her to study and register to Washtenaw community College her college that she used to study. I appreciate WCC so much that helped my daughter by giving her scholarship last semester so she can study but WCC asked her to solve MSU FAFSA issue. I have never experienced a situation like this at a university before. They don't send confirmations of what you fill out online. They don't email you back when they say they will. They give out wrong information. The whole process is a nightmare compared to other schools. You have to keep calling them if you submit a form like financial aid or housing, because they will just not do anything with it if you don't, and weeks later it will say it is still pending. read more

I'm going to end my 2011 on a high note, yelping a review of my favorite university, Michigan State. Yeah - I saved the best for last, how could you not give Sparty a perfect review? Yes, I'm a bit biased, but I tell it how it is. I've spent most of my adult life in East Lansing and around the MSU Campus. It's a quality and reputable institution with a diverse curriculum and student body. It's also located on one of the most beautiful campuses, and no mascot is better than Sparty. I graduated in '99 from Eli Broad College of Business, which was a fascinating and eye-opening experience. At that time MSU was ranked as a Top 30 college by US News & World Report. There were a plethora of resources available at your fingertips, the Academic Counselors were very helpful in shaping my career path. The Career Fairs were awesome and gave us a huge advantage and jump start into the job market - - so many reputable and well known companies were in attendance to recruit. Compared to some of my colleague's feedback about their Career Fair experiences at their institutions, I'd have to say that MSU put together a top notch experience. My parents have worked at MSU since the mid 80's, so I've seen my fair share of growth and innovation. Many of MSU's academic programs are competitive and nationally recognized, with the Veterinarian, Packaging, Business, Engineering, and Agricultural schools just being a few. Supply Chain Management (for example) has been recognized nationally as a Top 3 program since the mid 90's, the Accounting program improved their curriculum, and I have always heard great things about Nursing and Speech Pathology. I utilized the Olin Medical Center on campus a couple of times, and things always went well. I loved hanging out at the MSU Union dating back to my HS days. I love the botanical gardens near the library, and the campus colors during the Fall Season are always gorgeous and picturesque. I was fortunate to have experienced tailgating at Munn Field, and lived through 2 widely publicized riots (non participatory, of course!). Our football program is competitive and on the rise, and Coach Izzo has built a National Powerhouse for Men's Basketball. We have a great hockey tradition, and the Women's Volleyball and Basketball are successful and competitive as well. I can't wait for MSU's Wrestling Team to win an NCAA Championship, as well as the Football Program - who narrowly missed a trip to the Rose Bowl this year by 3 God-Blessed points. Damn cheeseheads. Some drawbacks during my student days: parking was never easy or fun (I'm sure that's common) as you're charged everywhere you park. You can always count on a ticket if you leave your meter empty. I wasn't happy about not being able to tailgate at Munn Field anymore, but I had my fill. There's a lot of theft and burglary on campus, but then again that's probably a common theme w/ other schools. Just keep tabs your stuff and lock it down, but otherwise it's relatively safe area. Over the years I have also felt like the relationship btwn the MSU Student Body and the City of East Lansing has never really been harmonious and typically lacked that sense of "togetherness". There always seems to be some underlying tension or issues. Students are students, stuff happens, but their contributions are critical to the city's economic success, and I don't feel that's well appreciated or recognized. It seems as if the City refuses to take any crap from the students, and they've focused energies on separating the parties by outlining the physical boundaries (ex. increasing student housing restrictions, some students forced to live miles away from campus due to lack of capacity). I can say this w/ confidence after experiencing the past 12 years in Austin where I've observed a different culture - - the University of Texas Student Body and the City of Austin (generally speaking) co-exist and mesh well together, it's like one big family / community. They got it right down here, it's a complete contrast from my experiences in East Lansing. Regardless, my blood is Green & White, I am forever Spartan, and I hope someday I will be able to teach at Michigan State - - a place I am proud to call home. read more

Greatest University in the state of Michigan! Absolutely beautiful campus, nationally recognized studies and athletics. Diversified studies which are top notch. For example, recognized as having the best College of Education program and also the top Atomic Physics program in the U.S. Much more in the way of premier courses of study. Yeah, I'm going to review my alma mater and I'm going to give it 5 freaking stars. I spent 5 awesome years at MSU and I can easily say that it was one of the best things I've ever done-- despite my student loan bills. MSU has everything to offer a young person: quality classes with great professors, a beautiful campus to get lost on, fun bars and nightlife, tons of interesting people from all over the world, and great sporting events. I have incredible memories at Michigan State. From my freshman year in West Circle back in 2005 to my semester abroad with MSU in London. From living in Cedar Village with roommates to eventually moving a little bit further off campus as a senior. There is really never a dull moment at MSU-- most of the students live on or near campus and therefor there are always people out and things going on. Some people commute but I don't think you can get the full experience without living-on for a year at least. Once you do, you will not want to leave the EL. Ever. Seriously, I miss it... You will not miss out on any part of the college experience by going to MSU. You will broaden your mind, you will meet new people and you will have a great time. I'm finding myself envious of the high schoolers who may actually be reading this while deciding where to go to school. I can tell you that MSU will be your best choice. If you're lucky enough to go to MSU: immerse yourself in the culture: ride the CATA bus, go to some football games, explore the campus with friends, order pokey sticks at 3am, go to parties sometimes and go to campus cinema sometimes (and eat the free popcorn). Do it all. You wont regret it. My years at MSU were the best ever. I am both academically enriched and a better person through my education and experiences. I can't say enough about MSU and until you're a Spartan, you cannot understand. GO GREEN! read more

Let's be honest, no one come to MSU for the winning sports teams. While the basketball teams are usually pretty good, the football team has been mediocre at best (except for this season, woohoo!). Michigan State is a rather large institution, but it has a variety of terrific programs and organizations that allow students to find their niche on campus and make it seem a little smaller. From residential colleges to on-campus jobs and internships, MSU provides a great undergraduate experience. I was a big fan of the on-campus housing provided by MSU; I lived in the dorms 3 out of my 4 years in school. I had the chance to experience suite-style living, community bathrooms, and an on-campus apartment. Ladies: get on the waiting list for Van Hoosen Hall. It is a hidden gem. Also, please please PLEASE take advantage of the great study abroad programs MSU has to offer. You're missing out if you don't. read more

Just as a visitor checking out the campus, I give it four stars. The place is huge. Really. A friend I was visiting was attending grad classes during the summer so I came out to visit. It left me with plenty of time to check out the campus. It's a mix of newer buildings with some older stuff too. I checked out the childrens garden which is really neat and has all sorts of plants and flowers. The other garden with the fountain is very well kept, unfortunately I missed out on the arboretum by a shy thirty minutes; it had just closed. The buildings on campus are huge, clean and well... like any other college. There's a food court on campus, the Dairy Store, and a plethora of shops on the North end of campus. My choice to attend MSU was probably one of the best decisions of my life. Coming from out of state and only knowing a few people was a bit nerve racking, but I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable at MSU. The campus is beautiful and there is always something going on whether it be attending a sporting event or attending a concert at one of the many on-campus locations. Right across the street from campus (Grand River) are various bars, dining, and shopping establishments. There's a little bit of everything. MSU offers a wide variety of classes and major interests of study. I actually ended up changing my major 3 times while at MSU and each transition was seamless thanks to the wonderful academic advisers I dealt with. Some classes can be very large, but there never seemed to be a problem finding a study buddy or speaking with the professor. There are various housing and dining options, all with unique characteristics to suite your own preferences. MSU is a fantastic university and I suggest it to anyone looking for a great college experience and education. GO GREEN!! read more

Michigan state University is supposed to be a prestigious place. They don't care about their students at all. If they mess up or their system doesn't process you correctly that's your problem and no one at any of their offices will ever provide assistance. The customer service model at MSU is self serve. If you are a student and don't have money they do not care about you. They will make sure to Nickle and Dime you at every chance they get. If you do not comply then you do not get anything. Biggest financial mistake ever. take your $120,000 and start a business this university is worthless. read more

MSU was the best experience of my life. I went to MSU for both my Bachelor and Master of Arts in Advertising. The Department of Advertising is among the best if not the best in the country. This had a profound impact on my career and life. The campus is amazing. I loved walking to and from class, especially around the Beaumont Tower. But the best part about MSU is obviously Sparty. I like visiting other Big Ten campuses when my Wildcats are playing and this is a great campus to visit. It's a Big Ten combination of party school and elite research university, it's a beautiful campus with the population of a small city. The grounds are attractive in any season, there's an interesting garden, a great research library (well a bunch of them actually), and because there's a diverse faculty and lots of foreign exchange students the area around the campus sports some good cheap eats. The campus art museum is interesting, and the music department puts on some excellent performances across a wide range of music. Many of their social science departments are research powerhouses, at the graduate and professional school level this is a top institution. In sports, like most Big Ten fans, I have the greatest of respect for Mark Dantonio. I do worry about the amount of drunk driving around campus but the East Lansing and MSU Campus Police do seem to have curbed this problem over the past few years. read more

Some programs are ranked (Education) while other are very good. I highly recommend MSU for undergrads. You'll get a good education as well as learn valuable social skills. Ah MSU. Their admissions people wish they were UofM and would have you believe it's UofM, but such is not the case. It's far from a mediocre school, but it doesn't have the right to start getting uppity in academics. Put simply, it's a party school that happens to have a rich and varied number of graduate programs. The research side is nicely community oriented - MSU's agricultural programs support local farms and initiatives so the surrounding folks get to share in the good research and developments made at the University. Most departments give back to the surrounding areas in many ways, which really helps make life bearable in a semi-rural area. MSU, I'm not fond of your undergraduates, but I admire your spirit. read more

I took my little friend to the Kresge Art Museum on the campus. It is small but a very nice museum. Then, we took a walk along the river and saw frogs and people were fishing and it was so pretty. This campus is great and top notch for beauty and learning. Got kids? Send them here for their higher learning. Simply the BEST college in the state of Michigan! Beautiful campus that is easy to navigate. Lots of parking options for everyone. If the weather is nice be sure to hit the Dairy Store and walk through the gardens. There are lots of food options on and just-off campus. Be sure to hit Spartan Stadium, Sparty and the Red Cedar River. If you're really lucky, you'll get to see the marching band practice - it's a special thing. read more

This is one of the greatest farm/land grant colleges across the nation. Michigan State has one of the more beautiful campuses. With recent additions and renovations like, the Mason / Abbott / Phillips snyder dorms and the addition of the new Art Musuem, the facilities are first class. People think this place is all about beer and football. They forget that there's plenty of pizza, too.

I went there back in 1990-1994, but I'm sure the following things have not changed 1) Avg class size is 300 people 2) A student body that mostly comes from Michigan....not the most worldy place in america. Everyone will tell you where they are from by holding up their hand and point to their hand (Because their hand looks like the state of MI) 3) Crappy weather......Many days with grey skies 4) I graduated with a Telecommunications degree.....I always thought that at least 2 year of that education was reteaching classes I already took in HS 5) Did it really prepare me for the real world? No way. Only living in the real world prepares you for being in it. Now some positives 1) I loved the physicial campus. I loved walking around and taking in all of the scenery 2) I've made a couple of friends that as of 2010 I still talk to 3) I'm glad I'm graduated and moved on. read more

Well as my alma mater where I spent the last four years, coming back here to check out some of the memorable landmarks around campus and walking down Grand River is always a blast. This review is just for the university and a general description. I won't be getting into classes, professors, tuition, cause though it's all relevant, some of them are also subjective reviews and it would take an essay to give a comprehensive review of every aspect cause there is just so much going on. I graduated here May 2015 with a degree in Neuroscience [Cognitive] from Lyman Briggs College (the science residential college on campus). To students in my grade and generation, it's an up and coming field incorporating psychology, biology, chemistry, and much more of the brain and nervous system. As a result, we were guinea pigs and curriculum/classes are still being altered and updated as we speak. Though I'm not pursuing a career in the sciences/medicine for now because science careers are really dependent on masters/phd to do actual work on neuroscience or professional school (PT, PA, pharm, dental, nursing, med, OT, etc). Unless you want to work in labs and conduct research under people or get CMA/CNA/EMT or some certs to get experiences during transition periods between undergrad and prof school, there isn't much else to work with. A lot of time and money involved to retake classes and go through the process for further education like med school if grades aren't up to snuff. I made a career change and doing some classes at local community college but that's another story now. It's a interesting field regardless and if science is your thing, go for it. I'm always keeping healthcare open thanks to the degree (cause it was still 4 years of a good education), so in that sense its a degree from a quality university in a challenging program. That's all I got to say about that. First off, MSU differs from Michigan in that all of campus is located together and not dispersed of within the city. Socially, MSU has only a small number of bars compared to Michigan, but Ricks is a landmark I'm glad I didn't go to from what I heard. Dairy store was on point. Campus food and combo exchanges esp living on-campus is the best coming from a person who lived on-campus all four years. Classes and professors are hit and miss a lot of the time, and you're probably guaranteed to get a few bad experiences but that's obviously not restricted to MSU. Spartan Athletics has been one of premier sports program in the country where football and men's basketball is concerned the last few years, and I'm lucky to say I've been a student during the Dantonio-Izzo era. I made a good number of friends while I was where, most of whom I still keep in touch with even if I don't see them in person. I was just in this area a few weeks ago as I have relatives who live in Okemos, and I have friends who are seniors and younger right now so going up once in a while to catch up and visit is always cool. MSU really is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It may not seem like it in the winter but in the fall when the leaves are dying, pictures are Instagram-worthy without filters. I'll definitely have to add pics to this review the next time I head on over there. There are just too many aspects about campus to list in one review and check out the website and make visits if you're interested to school to see all the detailed parts to everything on campus (student life, food, classes, etc). All in all and despite a good number of critiques with classes/prof/tuition, it was a great 4-year experience and hopefully a stepping stone to something more!! :) read more

This place has been home for the past seven. Doing my UG at James Madison College and my JD at MSU Law. It is one of my favorite places on earth. It is beautiful all times of year. In summer read a book down by the Red Cedar and in the winter watch this place turn into a wonderland. There is always something do and see. In full disclosure, I must tell you I am an alumni of Michigan state university. Now that my kids are attending, I get to revisit old times. This campus is as it has always been simply gorgeous. The premier land grant college certainly got it right and the more recent additions are great. Ok, maybe the art building is odd :(. Regardless, I can't wait to get back next time. My dear Alma Mater has grown too big. There is little to ZERO personal attention paid to the students. The housing is out of date and resembles a minimum security prison rather than a college dorm. We switched to the Packaging program at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. Lower tuition, numerous scholarship opportunities, smaller campus, smaller class size and a degree that is ABET Engineering accredited. The Michigan State University Packaging degree is not an Engineering degree. Outstanding hands on attention by the professors and counselors. So glad we made the switch. The professors and counselors are very passionate about Packaging and truly care about their students. read more
