Located in downtown Shelbyville near the county courthouse, this marker points out the history of a…read morestructure that no longer exists. It sure sounds like quite the place. The marker reads, "Established in 1859 by George A. Armstrong and was known for its good food and lodgings. Guerrilla leader Ed Terrell stopped here briefly, May 26, 1866. Attempting to escape, he was mortally wounded nearby. Brigadier General Henry H. Denhardt was slain here, Sept. 20, 1937. When the hotel was destroyed by fire on February 7, 1944, the owners decided not to rebuild." There is street parking along US-60 and several parking lots in the area. Built in 1858 by townspeople for civil defense against guerrillas. Located in middle of intersection. Measured 12 by 18 feet with loopholes on all sides. Manned by townsmen when alarm sounded. Several encounters with gangs attempting to raid town. Torn down in 1870 when civil law and order were assured, and marauders had been dispersed." And on the reverse, "Martin's Raid. In August 1864 Capt. David (Black Dave) Martin and gang attempted raid on courthouse to secure guns stored there. Thomas C. McGrath, merchant, J. H. Masonheimer, tailor, and others defended town against raiders. Three guerrillas were killed, and McGrath wounded. Mission failed. Martin died in 1896 and was buried in Grove Hill cemetery." Overall neat attraction for a small town and personally always use it as a navigational tool as it lets me know I'm near the city park or approaching the bardstown road intersection in a few miles.

Shall we get out and see some culture…read more This overlook sits off the waterline on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. It's under and around the wharf. It has so much to offer. During the summer time they have free concerts on a river boat barge with plenty of places to enjoy the music from. Now the potty situation is a portable one. After the June 19th, 2026 celebrations, which were uneventful. They were quiet too, the crowds did not leave any liter or bottles. Coming from a party town of Las Vegas it was great. No pee or vomit smells. The overlook is just a nice place to hang out and enjoy the Ohio River no matter what sort of a day it is. Wait five minutes the weather will change? The bridge at night lights up too with all sorts of LEDS! On the green is a river boat that they have concerts on every once in a while. It's the July 4, 2026 celebration and they had a free concert . It's was a great tribute band to Fleetwood Mac. Then the fireworks show exploded over our heads as the band rang in 250 years. Hold your hands and let the roar of the music and fireworks make your sanity challenged .

This Overlook in Jeffersonville is a hidden gem that offers panoramic views of the Ohio River and…read moredowntown Louisville. I had the overlook to myself during my visit to enjoy the river on a quiet Monday morning. I saw a lovely "steam" boat meandering down the river. The former Big Four Railway Bridge crossing the Ohio River is prominent to the west. The portico is upscale with benches and a picnic table to sit and enjoy the scenery. Roses and lilies were blooming around the pristinely manicured overlook. I thought of the history that has travelled this site on the river. Centuries of Indigenous people, Lewis & Clark, Lafayette and early settlers all traveled past this site. West of the overlook is a lovely grass amphitheater that will come alive in the summer. East of the overlook are empty boat slips. I found free street parking directly across from the overlook. I did not see public restrooms nearby. Access is wheel chair and stroller friendly. The Overlook is a must visit if you are in Jeffersonville.

I went to the Deli where I waited for 20 minutes because one girl was working. Two girls and and manager came behind the counter. The manager asked me what I needed and then just took off. There were 6 other people in line. Then I go to the meat dept. where a man was putting everything up because there was no one to work. This was at 3:00 pm in the afternoon! There were boxes in the floor unopened and the place was a mess! Someone help this store please!

This trailhead is centrally located on the Greenway Trail. There is enough parking for about a…read moredozen cars. The trail meanders through lovely woods along the Creek. The trail is fully paved, making the hike assessable for all. We traveled to the east end of the trail and passed several soccer fields. The walk or run is flat and easy with no obstructions. The trail is well marked. We saw birds and rabbits along the trail. Occasional sycamore trees leaned over the muddy creek water. Several interesting old train bridges crossed the creek. We heard and saw many birds. Despite a bit of graffiti, the trail is a perfect way to get in touch with nature and get a bit of exercise.
