    U-Haul

Worst experience I've ever had with UHaul. Made a reservation for a trailer hitch installation…read moreyesterday via the corporate appt scheduling. Drove an hour to this location- they don't do installations. I then purchased a kit to do it myself, but the kit was missing parts - no bolts, no square washers, and no locking ring. I tried asking the sales associate for help, but he stated he could no longer help me because he had other customers - while I'm still standing at the counter. Overall, a complete waste of time since no auto parts store, Lowes, or Tractor Supply carries the required square washers... Recommend avoiding this location if you value your sanity.

Subject: Extremely Rough Experience with U-Haul - BEWARE of Double Booking…read more I had a very rough experience with my recent move using U-Haul. My move started at a location in South Carolina and ended in New York. I initially reserved the truck at what I thought was a reliable U-Haul location in Columbia, SC. I made the reservation in person and assumed I would be picking up the truck from that same location--especially since I also needed it to clear out my storage unit at that exact site. No one informed me otherwise during the reservation process. On the day of pickup (after already scheduling movers--$$$), I was told the truck was actually at a different location. I was also told I'd need to "speed" over there because the truck had been double-booked (seriously?! I didn't even know that was possible). I rushed to the second SC location, only to be quoted nearly $200 more than my original reservation. I didn't argue, since I couldn't risk having to reschedule the movers. After completing the paperwork, I was then told the truck was actually at a third location. So, once again--while the movers were waiting--I had to get back on the road and speed over there. At the third location, we waited over an hour because they were experiencing a power outage and their computers were down. Eventually, I was given a beat-up 15' truck with an unclean interior and multiple damage markings (X's) on the outside. Still, I wasn't in a position to debate--I just needed to get moving. While packing, I realized the truck wasn't large enough, so I had to reserve a trailer. That phone reservation went smoothly enough, and I was told to return to the same third location to pick it up. Once again, the line was insanely long, and we waited over an hour to get the trailer. The trailer was also old and worn out. While packing it, the gate got stuck three times. The last time, it took three guys over an hour to get it unstuck--turns out a loose metal screw was jammed in the track, preventing it from opening properly. More lost time. We eventually got on the road to NY. Once we hit Maryland--at night--the truck's signal lights started going out intermittently while driving on the highway. I was following behind in another vehicle while my dad drove the truck. It was dangerous, to say the least. Thankfully, we made it home safely. But after this entire experience, I'll likely use a POD service next time. This was just way too much to deal with. P.S. Still shocked that my truck was double-booked. SMH. BEWARE.
