The menu is concise but has a good variety for spice and non-spice lovers, meat eaters and vegetarians. It's also very reasonable, at £6 for a combo of two meat curries and a side. I love takeaway curries but usually find them quite heavy and filling, whereas this was light, non-greasy and incredibly fresh. Yes, perhaps more simple in flavours than I would like for a Saturday night feast (plain rice, quite thin sauce), but the meat was incredibly tender and the sauce full of flavour. An honest, fuss-free and affordable service for a midweek curry :)

As proof of this we phoned our order in about 4pm, to be told it would be about 8:30pm before our food could be delivered. We said OK. It turned out to be after 9pm and on their first delivery attempt our order was incomplete. Dr Who and Wychcraft real ale were taking most of our attention at the time though. After a second attempt at delivery the order still remained incomplete, as my daal main stayed undelivered. We'd ordered three starters & four mains with basmati rice, with a few sides to try and three nan breads. Absolutely dreadful service and simply not good enough, but the chap delivering did realise his repeated error and he was genuinely annoyed at himself, so that's that we all make mistakes. I ordered the pani puri as my starter of choice. It consisted of 6 round, hollow puri, perfectly fried crisp. I had the delightful task of filling each with a mixture of tamarind flavoured water and spiced chickpeas. I also added some minced coriander & mint mixture. Each puri is small enough to fit completely into one's mouth. It is a popular street food. In North India it is known as Gol Gappa. The name 'gol gappa' refers to the crisp sphere (gol) that is placed in the mouth and eaten (gappa) one at a time. Pani comes from the Hindi word for water and puri (or poori) is the name of an Indian bread made by deep frying in oil. I also tried a piece of vegetable samosa. This was good but not great. I tried a bit of aloo gobi, which is a dry potato & cauliflower dish. It was perfectly cooked not overcooked and again it had just perfect heat. There were wee pots of chickpeas, yoghurt, mint & coriander but one pot contained what looked like preserved lime or lemon. It was sour and hot tasting and really good but it wasn't either fruit. It had a hairy shell a bit bigger than an apricot kernel but I've no idea what it is. Didn't stop me eating it though. Then I had my main of keema & diced potato curry with peas. This was just delicious, light to medium spiced and wonderfully dry, the best dish really. The basmati rice was overcooked and a bit sticky, I was surprised but not disappointed at this. The rice was not boiled in water only, as there was a delicate flavour to it that I couldn't discern and which made it quite tasty. The nan breads were fine, but they aren't cooked in a Tandoor, neither were the chicken tikka pieces (which came at the second delivery attempt; and anything less than tandoor cooking is second best, at best, or put another way if a proper charcoal tandoor was used this food would be stunning. All that said the tikka pieces were also delicious. Do remember that charcoal produces carbon monoxide so it's not usually a domestic indoor fuel, unless you've a fab extraction fan. Charcoal is a near pure carbon, it burns without producing sulphur (so no rotten taste) at intense temperatures, up to 2700 degrees Celsius. By comparison the melting point of iron is about 1200 to 1550 degrees Celsius - the sun creates a nuclear fusion of about 15 million degrees Celsius (though different parts of the sun produces different temperatures.) Finally I tried a bit of the chicken karahi. This too was well spiced, but I detected a bit of sameness in the taste of different dishes. I did not expect this either. I was surprised and disappointed at this. On a good mood day I'd have just about made it four star, but the sameness bugs me. If not for this it likely would have been four stars. If the nan breads were properly tandoored it would be a five. I'll try it another time.

We shared poppadoms(2 each) and onion bhaji to start which were fine, but I ordered the Chicken Tikka makhani for my main, it was swimming in ghee and I could barely eat it, hubby had a bland korma, we were both totally disappointed. Left most of the food and was out pretty quickly. The waiter asked if all was ok , I mentioned the dish swimming in grease , he kind of smiled, shrugged his shoulders and walked off. In addition to the food we had a coke and sparkling water all for about 40 quid way too expensive for shared starters , two mains and a shared rice. Would never go back, far too many other good Indians around for mediocre food and poor service.

The staff are great, it has a decent atmosphere and it is clean and comfortable. However, we go there for the food and it is always excellent. Proper chunks of tender, marinated meats in a variety of delicious sauces. I never go for burning curries, I like to taste the various flavours on offer. At Shandaar you will, and you won't be disappointed.

When he wants a curry, we usually order from his favourite Mahbub so we can watch him sweat while eating his curry at home, in private. The food is very good and this latest visit was no exception. We ordered vegetable samosas, seek kebab, fish tikka balti and moglai lamb lazia. The dishes came with rice or naan and we were given poppadoms and a portion of each mango chutney, onion chutney and minty yoghurt. The food is always good for the price we pay and for a takeaway. Although this place doesn't do deliveries, it's always a pleasant experience to come in store and place our order as we get to watch the busy open kitchen in action. The staff are very friendly and professional and you're offered coffee while you wait for your order (of a main meal). I would highly recommend a visit for those in the Chorlton area.

So on my first visit it's fair to say that my expectations were pretty high. On arrival my boyfriend and I placed our order for the vegetarian meal for two, and were offered fresh coffee and bombay mix whilst we waited for our dishes to be prepared. You can watch the friendly staff cooking your meal, and with free drinks and snacks why bother phoning ahead?! Fast-forward to a week later. I am sitting in my kitchen waiting for my microwave to ping - I'm de-frosting the last part of the vegetarian banquet. After stuffing our faces couple of popadoms, dips, onion bhajees and naan breads with a fair attempt at all of the curries we were given, my boyfriend and I had no choice but to retire. The banquet for 2 is really enough to feed at least 4 people! I assume that the meaty alternative would be even more filling. Next time my cupboards and fridge are empty I know where I'll be going for my next week's worth of sustenance!

My wife chose the same starter with a chicken tikka massala and pilau rice, so we shared the bread and rice. The lamb mince starter was tasty and it was lightly spiced. It came served up on a sizzling hot plate with onions on the iron base. This works well as it chars the onions making them tasty. My lamb main had 7 pieces of lamb and the rogan josh gravy was mild and a good portion. As it's a first visit I didn't know the spice levels and this dish was mild for me. The nan bread was delicious. I tried my wife's quite red tikka massala and I could detect the back note of Sharwoods tikka massala from a jar which slightly disappointed me.
