I'm from the San Antonio area, where we have a massive healthcare system and plenty of choices. My daughter was having her first baby at MMH earlier this week and after reading all the negative reviews about this hospital, I was rather nervous. First of all, free parking and no problem finding a spot over a 4 day period. The hospital was surprisingly pretty, modern, and spotless. The registration staff were all super-friendly, helpful, patient, and smiley. As for the OB staff, I literally fell in love with every nurse involved with my daughter's labor and delivery process. If I could hand each one a million dollars, I wouldn't hesitate. Every nurse was caring, extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and sweet sweet sweet to my daughter and her husband. I couldn't ask for anything more. Although I never actually met Dr. Doke, he came through for us and my daughter just loves him. I left Midland genuinely impressed with their beautiful hospital and top notch staff. I'm forever grateful that they ensured the health of my daughter and my first fabulous grandchild... a boy! read more

I brought my 70 old friend to seen because she was really bad stomach pain. They took her name and told her to take a seat they would be where as soon as possible and hour later she had not been seen. So we went home and called an ambulance. When the ambulance brought her in they asked her did she go home and call the ambulance we said yes, and they were upset set her back in lobby set there for two hours and they still did not se her. read more

My doctor, Jai Laitinen, was extremely rude and hostile from the moment she met me. Not only was she aggressive right away and extremely rude toward myself and the two other friends/family members I had with me, she had the audacity to argue, yell, belittle, and gaslight all three of us in the room. Our nurse even apologized on behalf of her unprofessional behavior. She did not answer our questions, did not respond in a kind manner, and simply stormed out of the room--I never saw her again. She was extremely hypocritical, and when questioned, she became immediately upset and defensive. She was not open to anything. She put me in so much pain and through many unnecessary tests. She saw me in person only once before I asked to see her again at discharge. She gave me an extremely inaccurate and false diagnosis. I believe her decisions were influenced by the fact that she was told about my medical history--I am diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She immediately read that and rudely asked: "WHY DOES SHE HAVE PTSD????" in such an unprofessional, insensitive, and hostile way. After that, she put me through hell. She did not explain a single thing or reason for anything. She simply told us she is right and stands by everything she has said and done. All three of us--me, the patient, and two family members/friends--are extremely shaken up by this experience. She decided to yell and belittle anything my two friends said. I had to interrupt and ask her to stop yelling. She was right in front of us, leaning over my bed. She said, "I am not yelling, I am just raising my voice." This was extremely uncomfortable and we started to feel unsafe. Her behavior was unacceptable. I believe she had biases against us. We were from out of state, in Texas and the desert for the first time, attending a competition (IREC). We are from Minnesota and are college students. Two days prior, I had spent the entire day in the hot desert, three hours from Midland, Texas. I showed major signs of heat stroke and dehydration. I attempted to rest and self-medicate the next day. On June 13th, I went to the hospital because I couldn't keep fluids down. I was so fatigued I couldn't stay awake or conscious. The doctor wrote that I refused to answer questions--I was barely conscious. She treated me for dehydration and heat stroke at first, but after giving me IV fluids, came in and claimed I was not dehydrated at all. Labs conducted after the IV showed I was fine. Of course they did--I'd just been medically rehydrated. The IV was freezing cold and hurt a lot. I cried from the pain. Dr. Laitinen claimed it was to cool my body temperature, not rehydrate me--despite my temperature being 98.5°F, a normal range. She rehydrated me, then told me I wasn't dehydrated. She diagnosed me with fatigue and psychogenic disorder. I don't know how she explains the extreme fatigue--I've never experienced anything like it. It was clearly due to dehydration. She diagnosed me with a psychological condition and ordered many unnecessary tests to prove her point. I believe this was because she learned about my mental health history. I was simply dehydrated, received IV fluids, and felt better. That was all. But she ran unnecessary tests to push the narrative that I was "crazy." We had a hostile conversation at discharge. She told me to my face she didn't believe I was dehydrated or had heat stroke or exhaustion. She essentially called me crazy. We are not from Texas. This climate is not normal for us. She treated us horribly, like we were foreign and stupid. I am not okay with what happened, and neither are the people who were with me. She will be seeing the repercussions of her actions soon. This is unacceptable behavior and I hope it is taken seriously. I was seen by Dr. Patrick in ER after a fall. The ER staff did an X-ray, but i was told I was fine and released. My daughter took me to a hospital in a nearby city, and after CT Scan and X-ray at this hospital, I got proper care and treatment for a broken tailbone and three pelvis fractures. I do not recommend this doctor at all. He seemed to be in a hurry to get to the golf course!​ read more

Midland Memorial Hospital was a terrible place to give birth. With my first baby, the CRNA told my dr it was fine to start the C-section even after I indicated my anesthesia was not working. Clearly, this csection was terribly traumatic, and no one took responsibility or even apologized to me. With my second baby, they detained her in the NICU, despite her being perfectly healthy, until I started threatening to call our attorneys. She was quickly discharged after because there was not medical reason to keep her--they just wanted our insurance for as much as possible. I do not recommend birthing here unless it's absolutely necessary. The only silver linings were a few good nurses in the nicu and one really nice night shift nurse during my first birth. read more

My daughter is 14 weeks pregnant, has COVID and has asthma. She could not breathe and was taken to the hospital. The doctor did not seem to care and didn't even give a breathing treatment. She was running a 102 fever and said that's normal because she has COVID. She had tingling in her hands and feet and the doctor said "That is fine." She had chest pain and was told "Don't worry it is a panic attack." Pregnant women, especially those with underlying health issues tend not to do well when they have COVID. They sent my daughter home like it was no big deal and did not even give her something for the fever. I was happy when my children moved to Texas because our home state California ( I know, we are Republicans and won't California your Texas) is a nightmare. My girls (3) and their boyfriends/spouses all work in the oil industry. They love their adopted state. But this is the third time this hospital has treated my daughter as though she does not matter. Doctors, would you want your loved ones to be treated the way you treat ours? Do better. read more

Had a major back surgery done here . Friendly nurses abs life changing results and experience . Wish I could remember everyone's names, but a majority of the nurses were amazing and cared so much for me. They made my wife and I feel welcomed and I cried when I left . I'll never forget walking the halls the second night after my spinal fusion and seeing all the happy faces . The physical rehabilitation therapist was amazing and patient . I'll never forget one of the staff that pitched in on roles that weren't even her responsibilities to help me out. She encouraged me not to give up and keep pushing myself. Would tell me how amazing I'd be feeling once this was all over . How I'll be a father one day and be so glad I had the strength to push through. She told me I was strong when I felt weak. Zero stars!!! Went in for abdominal pain the nurse couldn't even get the iv started. She poke me 3x before calling someone else. I saw the doctor once he didn't even exam me just asked a couple of questions and sent me for a ct scan. I waited HOURS before given any pain medication also the nurse came back with my discharge paperwork outta nowhere. The doctor didn't even take the time to go talk to me. No one read me my results for my CT the nurse just handled me the paperwork. They literally just Left me the same way I went in with no answers as to why im getting the pain im getting. They gave him a cat scan and a chest x-ray, didn't find anything so they sent him home. He fell again and we took him to Odessa. Turns out he has a 60 percent blocked cartroid artery. Midland memorial is so incompetent and only care about a paycheck. I would avoid going here unless you're trying to die. If I could give 0 stars I would. My husband went to the ER back in MAY. We received the bill and he called and gave our insurance info. (They have this on record). Well, we never received another bill. (Did insurance take care of it???) Fast forward to Oct. 1st... we receive a collection letter for $1700. Scared because we NEVER get anything sent to collections, I immediately pay the collection agency because I didn't want our credit effected. But then I think, "Wow, $1700 seems like a lot to pay AFTER insurance... let me call the hospital for an itemized list of the charges. And why we never got a bill." Called the hospital and they were like, "Ok, the last bill was sent was May for $1700, then it looks like insurance paid $1300 in June..." then they trailed off. I'm like, "...and??" So they were looking into things. Because if insurance was applied in June for $1300, WHY WOULD $1700 BE SENT TO COLLECTIONS?!? And WHY WERE WE NEVER SENT A BILL FOR THE REMAINDER?!? We ARE supposed to be sent a refund. I have called at least a DOZEN times. Last I heard, it is on some lady's desk waiting approval... it's now Dec. 17 and we still haven't received anything. Someone messed up BIG TIME. -Sending an original amount to collections AFTER insurance paid a huge chunk. Ummm, insurance fraud?!? -Never sending out additional bills for the difference after insurance was applied. -Now the runaround to get our money back. Hey- no worries, that $1300 wouldn't come in handy with Christmas in 8 days. Let me call them back AGAIN and see what I can find out today. This is a freaking JOKE! Zero stars if I could. I would seriously let you know stars except they did save my life in the ER. I came in with bleeding from my guts And lost a lot of blood but they did help me with that. After being placed in PCU a few hours it became apparent that personal care means something else. With getting to personal we will say I had trouble down there and was left for hrs wet and dirty. When my needs were finily seen to I was scrubbed with cold wet hard wash clothes leaving me red and soar. Everytime I had an accident it was thus. They even has different dr come in who proclaimed me "dirty and misused" My friend brought me wipes and cream. I had to start getting out of bed to toilet aguaint advice of Dr to avoid the painful cleaning of staff. There is no hot water in the room and the ac doesn't sufficiently work. The night nurse was very cruel telling me she would have me sent to ICU and put on venterlator so I would be less problems. I couldn't help what was going on.in my body the amount of blood I was losing got me a 5 day stay in care. This place needs a exam board to cone in and do a complete reform om staff that shouldn't be working with live patients. read more

I was admitted to Midland Memorial a year ago. I don't remember much of my first week there. I had COVID-19 and how I got it, I had no idea. About the only outstanding thing I remember is huddled in the little bed and shivering. I was so cold, had one blanket. A head nurse walked by and told me she'd bring another blanket, and she did. I was so grateful and looked for her later but I guess she was an angel because she never showed up again. The one thing I remember was that their breakfasts were always cold. I asked a nurse if she would microwave my food and she did. I was so happy to be released after 6 weeks and to go home. read more

I sincerely believe that the cardiac surgeon, Dr. Gurbuz, was afraid to do my daughter's open heart surgery and in fact panicked hours prior to the surgery by ordering Covid testing for my daughter who had NO symptoms of said disease. He told my daughter that he had "good news" in that there would be no surgery (an hour after surgery should have started) and that "she had not experienced a heart attack" so she should be fine to wait another 30 Days for her surgery. Lots of money for the hospital but no life saving surgery for my daughter. read more

Went in on a Friday for a kidney stone. They found bacteria & blood in UA. Asked about antibiotics & was told they wouldn't give me any. A 6mm stone was stuck outside my kidney causing it to get backed up. ER kept telling me they couldn't do anything for me and would send me home. My own urologist knew all this, Dr. Christopher Slayden. Neither would give me anything that helped with pain. I became septic by Sunday & into Monday and had to be rushed to emergency surgery. Sepsis had started to affect my cardiac and respiratory system. My husband thinks we got to the hospital just in time. He was scared I was about to take a serious turn got the worse. Ended up having two surgeries and three ER visits over this. Had they started me on an antibiotic I probably wouldn't have become septic. They also don't care whether you suffer because they won't give you but a small amount of pain medicine and they give you something for moderate pain. Kidney stones are far worse than contractions and childbirth yet you get an epidural upon admission to give birth. I've done both so I know. Another complaint, nurses on the floor don't know how to start an IV and they don't listen to their patients. read more

It was 28 degrees outside as im carrying in my 1 yr old son with me after my gf's mom dropped him off bcuz she has to work and nobody else to watch him, meanwhile my gf just gave birth im trying to get upstairs so we can get our belongings and get ready to be discharged nurses stop me n won't allow me inside basically telling me I need to leave bcuz my son can't be here as if he's a big problem, nurses just say absolutely not allowed ! and I'm like okay so what u expect my gf to just stay here by herself n watch our new born after she hemorrhaged and is in pain and expect her to carry everything downstairs with her while I wait in parking lot for 4 hours to be discharged ?? My mother was transferred here from Lovington, NM on the evening of 8-16-2017. I stayed behind to take care of some business while my brother met the ambulance. She was complaining of severe pain in her upper abdomen. They took x-rays and sedated her for a CT Scan. She was extremely claustrophobic so had to be sedated for this procedure. My brother kept In close contact with me throughout all of the time she was in the ER. At one point they said she had pneumonia then just an infection. When I arrived she was still in severe pain. I asked the nurses to give her something for the pain and they said it was not prescribed in her charts. My brother had left as soon as I arrived so he could get some rest. Both of my brothers arrived at the hospital late in the evening of 8-17-17. The physicians met with us and informed us that they had no idea what was wrong with my mother after almost 24 hours of tests and extreme pain. We were at a standstill. A few hours later a group of nurses and physicians confronted us in the hallway in front of my mother's room and informed us that they were going to intubate her to do yet another CT Scan. I was firmly against this but my brothers gave them the go ahead. Within minutes of them entering her room they called a code blue!! They had killed my mother. She was then put on life support for us to make the decision to shut off the machine. I have been in a ER in the past with my father being intubated and they put the tube in wrong which resulted in increasingly blowing up in his abdomen. Luckily they caught it in time and pulled it. I am convinced this is what happened to my mother. Why would they even want to intubate her this time when they had already done a CT Scan previously with sedation? I have tried to get her medical records but they assure me that they can't be released to me because my brother signed the death certificate. I am her biological daughter and was her caregiver for the last 15 years of her life. Midland Memorial Hospital is a joke. My mother is gone today because of medical malpractice!!!! read more

I have a one star but truly deserves a negative 0. My son has been is very ill for a few days with vomiting, diarrhea fever of 102 chills and in lots of muscle pain which can be due to various reasons as we all know. Please tell me why this hospital does only a nasal swab and throat swab (COVID test done at home) explained to staff that it was already done and they sent him home to take Motrin and drink Gatorade. Son asked staff to give IV fluids 3 times and they did not give or take any blood to see if there is a chronic condition going on. Hospitals urgent care centers have given IV when people get sick dehydrated etc until blood results come in to DETERMiNE the issue, Are these people actually real nurses and doctors at this hospital?? The hospital did not have any health records as it was his first time at this hospital and city. They don't know of any health conditions and we still don't know if there is something else is truly going on as no blood or urine was taken! Liver and kidney issues could be elevated, a bad bacterial infection anything!! I will definitely be reporting this hospital and service that is being given. I have seen other bad reviews about this hospital but didn't think it was this horrible omg!. Now I see why the other urgent care rooms in the area were full because this hospital is a complete joke. WARNING THIS HOSPITAL BILLS THEIR PATIENTS FOR THE HOSPITAL VISIT AND THEN OUTSOURCES THEIR CHARGES FOR THE DOCTOR THAT TREARLTS YOU, WHICH RESULTS IN TWO VERY HIGH SEPARATE BILLS. Came in due to complications from an autoimmune disease and needed some major pain medication and a check up very quickly. Dr. Delgado was my emergency room doctor. His bedside manner was lackluster. He seemed wary of me for coming in and did not seem to believe the things I was saying. I also confused about where my room was and he said "You don't know? Why are you so confused right now?" Uhh...Maybe because I can hardly think with how much pain I am in, dude. Also he charged me $1517.24 (actually more) to see me twice in five hours. He ordered a pregnancy test without my consent that cost $200. When I called to arrange a payment plan, the woman on the phone (from Midland Emergency Management) cut me off when I began to ask for an itemized receipt and stated she was only asking me questions and was not going to provide statements. Okay, then. Shady AF. Please ask Dr Delgado how much he plans on charging to treat you on top of the bill with Midland Memorial and keep a list of EVERY single thing you consent to having. The staff left biohazardous fluids and trash around my ER room. All in all, I would not recommend this guy or this hospital. They had mass billing and coding issues this year, so be sure to check your statement line by line if they you do. They get one star because they were able to get me in quickly. read more
