I've lived in Midlothian for a number of years. This Park District has to be the most POORLY ran…read moreplace I've ever been to. When my son was 4, I decided to enroll him in their "summer camp" program...which was nothing more than a 16 yr old, in charge of more than ten little ones at a time...total disaster. My kid almost DROWNED in a pool on one of their pool visits..and not ONE of those counselors/non thinking teenagers said a word to me about it. Then, I decided to give them another chance a few years later..thinking..maybe....just MAYBE..they'd gotten their act together...boy was I wrong. I enrolled my son in a "karate" class there...of course, I went to pay the fee..and they have 2 teenagers behind the desk more interested in their I-phones, and not really wanting to help a customer. A week later, my son started his karate class there.....and basically, whatever room is available, is where they have the class...they have a huge gym, and 2 small rooms...not a good look for a place called a "Park District".....ANYWAY....seems like we always were in one of the small rooms...Imagine over 30 children, all ages, from 3 on up to 15, scrunched in a room the size of a master bedroom..along with chairs, parents, 2 instructors, etc.......I will NEVER visit this place again...too darn depressing.

Plus there are plenty of field trips and special camp visitors. Please patronize this park district! I love it.

I went here to watch a free movie. I didn't even know that there was a free movie playing that…read morenight. Where do you advertise your activities? I went to the concession stand to get something to eat and drink. I got a pizza, nachos and a large drink. The nacho chips were stale and there wasn't enough cheese to use on all of the chips. The jalapeño slices were diced and doesn't work as well. The movie was played in a good amount of open space. We still were able to hear the movie but the people jumping off of the diving board were still a distraction. I had to show my ID to prove I was an Alsip resident. So they didn't allow just anyone in. Overall it's was a good night.

Not to mention non residents have to Pay up to 11/2 times the rate for programs and they also have last priority ?? government is a joke and shame on people for not wanting to do anything bout it except , accept these things ... fire our government as a local and global entity .

Alsip's Park District offers a lot of classes and things for younger kids to do like crafts, day…read morecamp, gymnastics, etc. They also offer teen and adult classes like ballroom/salsa dancing, music lessons, etc. Alsip's actual parks have drastically improved in the last few years. Sears Park (on the south side of 123rd b/t Pulaski and Kedzie) was recently redone with a lighted walking path (unfortunately it isn't a full mile) and all new playground and workout equipment and it looks great! Sears park is also the home field of the Alsip Falcons (youth football & cheerleading), so I'm sure it will get put to good use. However, I've only visited Sears Park twice, seeing as how NONE of Alsip's parks are dog friendly, we generally choose to go Mount Greenwood Park (where the people are friendlier there too).

My kids don't want to go back to this summer camp. A good amount of the counselors were great, and…read morethey liked meeting other kids, but they were rushed everywhere. A reliable non-kid source who was present also told me the kids are rushed around. I don't get it. This camp is supposed to be fun. Kids don't move as fast, especially the younger kids. Why do you have to rush them around everywhere? They also had weekly field trips which was nice. The would go to the Palos pool sometimes, went to Lincoln Park zoo one time, another time went to Beverly Art Center. That was nice. I just don't get why the kids who are wearing back packs, carrying water bottle and their lunch are being told to walk faster. You don't need to rush kids on to the next thing. Connect with them, and encourage them to the next thing. You should really make time accommodations knowing the younger kids especially, will move slower. My kids were stressed out about this part. Not sure why the people in charge facilitate this "move faster" approach. Also, I wish they would reapply sunblock. These kids are outside marching around on often 90 degree hot summer days, could we maybe actually re-apply the sunblock? I give it 2.5 stars.

The whole facility is very new , very clean , and very pleasant. Four stars here - why? There is a Charter Fitness less than half a block away. The membership fee there is half of the "full" membership cost here. Based on the attendance I witnessed here today; 5 assumed full members using the machines and three people walking, and at least 4 staff members, there is NO WAY that this facility generates enough money to be self supporting. That means that MY property tax pays for this! So, enjoy, everyone!
