I honestly do not believe I would have survived the first month and a half with twins if I didn't have Justine and her team for overnight care. The doulas were knowledgeable, trustworthy, kind and extremely helpful. From the first meeting I felt at ease and that my family was in good hands. Both Priscilla's and Alex provided exceptional care and I would highly recommend the Midwest Doula team to anyone. read more
If you're on the fence about hiring a doula like we were, don't be--especially if you're considering Justine and her team. We hired Justine for our second pregnancy because I was high-risk, on Lovenox, and managing gestational diabetes, and an unmedicated birth felt right for us. With my first pregnancy, I had no complications and chose an epidural, so my husband was very skeptical about needing a doula this time, especially since our first delivery went so smoothly. What ultimately made us move forward was knowing that my husband, being a very logical person, wouldn't be able to give me the emotional support I'd need during labor. After meeting Justine on a video call, everything instantly felt right. She was warm, supportive, and confident from the start, and she was the only doula who genuinely believed I could have an unmedicated birth--especially considering how quickly my first labor progressed with an epidural. She also reassured my husband that her support was just as much for him as it was for me. Throughout the pregnancy, Justine and her team answered every question and helped me navigate every curveball. No matter what came up, she was there with guidance, resources, and a listening ear. On delivery day, I delivered our baby girl in under an hour--completely unmedicated, just as we hoped. Even though there were moments when I wanted to give up, Justine's calm presence and steady, encouraging voice helped me push through. It ended up being the most magical birth experience I've ever had, and I still can't believe I did it. Hiring her was truly one of the best decisions we made. TL;DR: We were unsure about hiring a doula, but Justine completely changed our minds. Despite a high-risk pregnancy, she supported us from day one, reassured my skeptical husband, and helped me have a fast, completely unmedicated birth. Her calm, steady presence made it the most magical delivery experience--we're so glad we chose her. read more

Working with Justine, Ale, and Rachel was definitely the best decision my spouse and I made in our birth experience! From providing evidence-based responses to our questions to helping us advocate with providers to simply cheering us on, we were so supported by this team! Justine joined us at the hospital for labor and was absolutely essential to making us both feel comfortable and safe as mine and baby's medical situation got more complicated. We truly could not have imagined doing this without her!! read more

I cannot recommend Justine and her team enough. My husband and I received so much support during labor and excellent recommendations/resources (educational information, lactation class, prenatal massage, chiropractic provider recommendations, Lamaze class, infant CPR) throughout my entire pregnancy which kept me feeling good and confident leading up to the birth of our son. I immediately trusted everyone I interacted with at Midwest Doulas which brought me so much peace leading up to labor. I had planned for a home water birth (which we had) but I knew if a hospital transfer was needed, I would be well supported, even if it wouldn't be the birthing experience that I wanted. Justine attended my birth and is a Rockstar Doula. I absolutely loved my birth experience. Justine suggested different position changes as my labor progressed and also was a magician at reading my body language and talking me through when things would get more intense. This helped mentally prepare me and I believe was a significant contributor to me having an amazing birth experience. I also appreciated the photos Justine was able to capture during labor and birth. read more

Justine and the Midwest Doula team are absolutely incredible. As a first time mom, with next to no knowledge about how the birthing process works and what the pregnancy journey truly looked like, they were essential in easing my concerns and helping me feel prepared. I switched from an OBGYN practice to the Methodist Midwives via Justine's recommendation and it was by far the best choice, I felt so loved and cared for during the whole process. Having Justine in the delivery room allowed my husband and I to focus on the delivery and our baby rather than having any extra stress. We put our full trust into Justine to help guide us and advocate for us and we didn't regret it one bit. We will definitely be using Midwest Doulas for our future babies! read more

Midwest Doulas helped my family welcome our second child this past April. We were lucky enough to have Justine for a second time prep for the arrival of our baby, and be with me and my husband in the delivery room. The second I found out we were expecting again my first call was to Justine- the calmness, advocacy, strength, and support she brings to the birth is something I am forever grateful for. She helps me tap into my abilities, and ensures that the birth I desire is the birth I achieve. Outside of labor prep and delivery, the Midwest Doula team are caring, compassionate, fun loving, and joyful women and it is an honor to have them surrounding me during such an amazing time of life - bringing another life into this world. Cannot recommend them enough, and will continue to have them on my team for future pregnancies and labors! read more

We wanted to thank you Justine for going above and beyond to support us during a stressful 6+ HOUR DELAY before our planned c-section. I was overwhelmed by the idea of having surgery and Justine was truly a life saver, helping qualm my fears and stay present for the birth of our twins. And Ale thank you for your amazing support as well! We loved your sense of humor and appreciated how quickly you prepared and hand delivered our placenta capsules. I literally could not have done it without this team, and I recommend them to anyone beginning their pregnancy journey. Thank you thank you thank you Midwest Doulas!! read more

I'm so glad and grateful that I was able to work with the team at Midwest Doulas. They helped me to feel completely supported during my pregnancy. I appreciated that Midwest Doulas was supportive of a hospital birth. Justine attended my birth. My plan was to have an unmedicated vaginal birth, and I did! My husband and I were so grateful for Justine. She guided me through different positions to progress my labor, she showed my husband techniques for rubbing my back and supporting me during contractions, and she just knew where to be and what to do from moment to moment. I felt completely comfortable with her in the room and she worked very well with the team of nurses there. 10/10 if I have another baby I would hire Justine. My husband and I both have said that we don't know what we would've done without her. Thank you Justine for supporting me through labor, reminding me that I was safe during each intense contraction. You saw in me my strength and power and you truly helped me see it in myself. I had the birth that I wanted, and you helped me do that. read more

I worked with Midwest Doulas for my second birth. While my first birth was considered medically uneventful and very smooth, it was very fast and I wasn't sure if that was going to be the case for my second child. My spouse and I wanted peace of mind that we would have a coach in the room with us to help guide us through pain management, decision making, and to be a third support person. While my second birth ended up being even faster than my first, having Justine at my side moments after my birth was very helpful. My child had to be sent to the NICU and my spouse could go with him while I needed to remain in the delivery room to get some afterbirth care. Justine held my hand, literally, while I processed what happened with my birth and also went through those final procedures. I cannot recommend working with Justine and her team highly enough. They were educational, empathetic, and extremely helpful in preparing for our birth. While nothing can truly prepare you for the birth of what your child will actually look like, having Justine and her team work with us prior to the birth and during the actual birth process was incredibly helpful. We also have the pleasure of working with a postpartum doula from this team. She was kind, caring, and the help she provided for me was second to none. I can't encourage you enough to make the call to speak with Justine and her team. I don't think you'll regret it! read more

Justine was recommended to my wife and me by our midwife and we are so grateful. We had interviewed a few doulas before we met Justine and were about to give up the search as we just couldn't find the right fit, but we immediately clicked with Justine. Justine was so attentive to my needs and cared deeply about my history and my preferences for birth, which was to receive needed medical and pain interventions and to have the least trauma possible, even if that meant surgical birth. When the time came, I underwent a 2 day induction that was very challenging for me. Justine was available by phone for emotional support and to help make decisions, even in the middle of the night. She came to see me once my epidural was placed and brought broths for me to drink, then came back a little bit before active labor. Justine was so hands on and coached me in how to push and when to change into different positions. When things became complex, Justine took charge of the room and spoke directly with all parties involved about my options, then talked with me and my partner about every possibility and the pros and cons. She was so supportive and empowering and I honestly think that my birth would have been traumatic without her intervention and care. Justine came to our home after the birth for a post partum debrief and that brought me so much peace and reassurance. She also took beautiful photos during my birth that I will treasure forever. I would recommend her to any birthing person, and if I ever give birth again, I would hire her in a heartbeat. Thank you so much Justine, you made my baby's entry into the world so beautiful and I am so so grateful you were a part of our family's story! Hire her! read more

We hired Justine and the Midwest Doulas team for the birth of our first child, and we are so grateful we did. From start to finish, they went above and beyond. The team truly works together to support you throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond, offering resources, reassurance, and care every step of the way. Justine brings such a positive energy to the birth experience. She is 100% there for you--your needs, your preferences, your comfort. I truly felt that her presence allowed my husband to be more grounded and supportive during labor, because she was there guiding us both. Her knowledge and instincts helped keep our birth progressing naturally and even helped us avoid some unnecessary interventions. If we have more children, there's no question--we'll be calling Justine again. read more

We were so glad to have Justine and Ale on our team from Midwest Doulas! Even as a nurse with experience in the field, it was so helpful to have someone to talk to throughout the pregnancy and weigh pros/cons of different decisions, especially since doctor appointments are so brief. In addition to the birth support, the program was comprehensive including pre and post birth meetings, birth education classes with your partner, CPR, and lactation classes, too. At first my husband didn't quite understand what a doula was, or why we needed one, but he now sings Justine's praises, like everyone else! I ended up having a sudden unexpected complication--all good now, but I honestly don't know how I would be coping had Justine not been there. My medical team was great in their response, but having someone completely dedicated to me while it was all happening--advocating, showing unwavering, genuine investment in my wellbeing, was priceless. And her endurance is unmatched! Highly recommended--she has seen it all and is highly skilled. Thank you! read more

Justine is amazing! She makes labor happen. She is a shining light! I love her. She was attentive and responsive from the moment I reached out. For me, pregnancy brought not only joy but anxiety and many unanswered questions as a first-time mom. In surveying my friends and colleagues regarding their birth experiences, it was evident that those who had a doula present had more positive stories to share. I wanted to make sure I felt as prepared and supported as possible no matter how my birth story unfolded. Within five minutes of meeting Justine, I knew that we had found our doula. She was warm, extremely experienced (10+ years!), transparent, and familiar with high risk birth; more specifically my unique situation. She had routinely support births at our hospital and had familiarity with the staff and hospital-specific protocols, which gave me peace of mind. Additionally, having access to a team of doulas was invaluable. Someone was always there to answer my questions with a response within minutes. Ale and Ashley were just as knowledgeable and wonderful as Justine, and I felt confident and comfortable working with any of doulas during my pregnancy. In a whirlwind C-section delivery, Justine was able to remind me of preferences I had previously noted for my birth and keep me grounded before, during my spinal, throughout the birth, and after. It is extremely valuable to have a doula with the experience, insider knowledge, and a professional relationship with labor & delivery staff. Having Justine and my husband encouraging me through the process with physical touch and affirming words made for a peaceful, calm, and memorable birth experience. No doubt that having a doula greatly contributed to my POSITIVE birth experience. I felt strongly from the beginning that I wanted a doula with the experience and know-how to guide my birth journey! Hands down, best decision we made. I would recommend Midwest Doulas to anyone and plan on using them again if we have baby #2. read more

After interviewing multiple doulas and feeling very discouraged with who we were finding, a friend recommended Justine at Midwest Doulas. My husband and I interviewed with her and immediately felt connected to her. Justine and her team were amazing during our prenatal visits and helped us feel very prepared for what was to come. Despite our birth going completely off course due to some medical reasons outside of our control, Justine helped us to feel in control of the process the whole time and own our birth story regardless of it not being what we imagined or planned for. She was an incredie support during active labor and coach during pushing. My husband is very grateful she was there despite not knowing what a doula was when we started interviewing them. He is now recommending Justine to all of his friends for when their partners give birth. read more

There are not quite enough words to express how important Midwest Doulas was to my empowering birth experience--especially as things did not go as planned. Every birthing person should be able to access dignified doula care like that offered with Midwest Doulas. I worked specifically with Justine and Ale, with Ale ultimately attending my birth, serving as my postpartum doula, and placenta encapsulator. We contracted with Midwest doulas because my good friend recommended them. In the beginning, Justine worked with my spouse and I to locate a provider in lockstep with the low intervention vision I had for my birth and help me develop my birth plan. We immediately connected with Justine's encyclopedic knowledge of evidence based birth practice. I was so impressed by how up to date she was on relevant literature and how she accompanied that knowledge with deep care for our wellbeing. Justine's transnational understanding of what birth looks like in France alongside the realities of the United States was helpful because she understands so much. I have the utmost respect for everything about Justine. I felt cared for and never rushed in our appointments. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I met Ale, who joined us over at our house to learn comfort measures. Ale felt like a long-lost friend and I was immediately comfortable with her too. I developed severe pre-eclampsia at 38 weeks and was immediately induced. They gave me what I needed to navigate the medical industrial complex and advocate for myself. Ale attended my birth and was the energy needed in the room during the most vulnerable day of my life. My birth experience could have been very traumatic; it was empowering because of them. I delivered vaginally (my goal) and did not tear. 1,000,000/10. Love them to pieces. read more

Midwest Doulas was such an important partner in helping to educate us and navigate our choices when it came to the birth of our first son. Not only were Justine, Ashley & Rachel incredibly helpful & knowledgeable as we prepared, but the resources they connected us to (lactation consultant, birthED birthing classes, chiropractic support, numerous online resources, etc.) allowed us to feel so informed and confident going into our birth. For the big day of our birth, we were lucky to have Ashley join us; her guidance and support throughout labor (both virtually and in-person at our home) took away all anxiety and stress associated with having to figure out when to go to the hospital, allowing me to focus all of my energy on labor. At the hospital, she remained a calm and unwavering force guiding me through delivery and advocating for our preferences. Her support was integral to allowing me to have a seamless labor and delivery experience. I can't recommend Midwest Doulas and Ashley in particular, enough! read more

When we found out we were having our second baby, our first call was Justine at Midwest Doulas. She was such a massively important part of our first birth experience that we couldn't fathom having a second without her by our side. Our recent birth was one of the most joyful experiences of our lives, just like our first birth, filled with laughter and love and positivity and amazing music, support, and encouragement. When you are getting close to the birth of your child, it is typically an anxiety-filled and scary time, but not when Justine is part of the picture. Every time we talked to her, we were reminded that birth is an adventure, something to get psyched for, something we were LUCKY to experience. Thank you so much to Justine for advocating for us, for protecting us, for giving us the best advice, and for helping shepherd our beautiful son brilliantly and safely into the world! read more

I am so grateful for the care Midwest Doulas provided before, during, & after the birth of my baby. I spent considerable time with Justine and Molly, both of whom helped to create such an empowering experience and overwhelmingly positive memory of bringing my daughter into the world. Due to factors outside my control, I was not able to have the birth experience I initially envisioned, but Justine and Molly were there every step of the way to create a new and revised plan - and ultimately it turned into a better labor and delivery experience than I could have possibly imagined. From the bottom of my heart, thank you To anyone considering Midwest Doulas, I highly, highly recommend you work with them. If I get the chance to bring another baby into the world, I will absolutely be working with them again. read more

The Midwest Doulas have been BEYOND incredible to work with! Meeting with Justine, Ale, and Kali throughout my pregnancy was so helpful to plan and prepare for my labor and delivery. They are a wealth of knowledge and supported all of my goals while providing evidenced based insights to answer my questions. My labor and delivery were an incredible experience all thanks to Justine! I truly could not have imagined a better situation as a first time mom. She was the best support person for both me and my husband. She kept both of us informed of our options and worked hand in hand with the hospital staff. (All of the hospital staff already knew who Justine was & loved working with her -- so comforting!!)I highly recommend Justine and Midwest Doulas to everyone I know! Literally the best decision I've made during my pregnancy. Worth every. Single. Penny. I will absolutely be using Justine again when it's time for Baby #2! read more

Midwest Doulas/Justine is vital for improving the birth experience. She has been kind and informative of every step. She respected any decision we made and made sure we knew all our options. Justine did a great job of validating any worries without being dismissive and provided encouragement. We really appreciated her advocacy with preparation for birth and all the access to experts she had. I was especially grateful for Justine due to ending up with a C-section. Justine advocated for me to have skin to skin contact as soon as possible. She helped with comfort care when nausea set in. My spouse also really appreciated having her there as it was his first birth as well. He learned when you can push back on doctors and what is needed for the safety of the baby. He was able to be present in the moment and enjoy it as Justine took many precious photos for us. I also really appreciated the postpartum debrief. read more

Justine and her team are amazing!! My husband and I both highly recommend Midwest Doulas and have raved about them to everyone that asks about the birth of our daughter because they played such a huge role in our positive experience. Their guidance throughout pregnancy empowered me to go into my first birth feeling confident, informed and fully supported. Justine contributed to my birth experience being even greater than I ever imagined. From the middle of the night phone calls for reassurance once labor started to advocating for the water birth room at the hospital and all of the coaching and encouragement throughout labor for both my husband and me, she helped make birth the most beautiful and empowering experience for us!! Her expertise and understanding of our wishes allowed us to stay calm and fully present in the moment amidst the chaos of a hospital. The continued care and check ins postpartum were also so helpful as we adjusted to life with a newborn. I'm already looking forward to hiring Midwest Doulas again for my next birth! read more

'I'm finally getting around to writing my review... I have nothing but good things to say about Justine and her team of doulas. As a first time mom at 35 yr old, I intuitively knew I wanted to have a doula to consult throughout my pregnancy and present at my birth. Of all things pregnancy and labor and delivery related, that was the one thing I knew. So of course, I looked for the best doula service I could find and came across Midwest doulas. After interviewing Justine, I pretty much knew right away I wanted to hire her. Her years of experience, wealth of knowledge, and her long standing relationship with the hospital I wanted to deliver at, contributed to my easy decision. I wanted my boyfriend to be on board with a doula as well, so once I was able to convince him of the value, we hired Justine around 20 weeks pregnant. My pregnancy was easy for the most part, so i wasn't in contact as much as I thought I would be, but when I did reach out to Justine, she would respond immediately with either an answer or the person in her wonderful network of resources I needed to connect with. Justine was very adamant about communication which I appreciated, as I concider myself a low needs/low maintenance person. It was nice to have someone who truly cared about my well-being throughout this entire process. I also met with two other doulas Ale, and Ashley (I believe). Justine was who ultimately showed up at my birth, but the other two were equally as fabulous and made me feel so important and cared for in those last few weeks leading up to labor and delivery. I had always been "natural birth curious", but I never felt comfortable enough to pull the trigger on that route, and Justine never made me feel judged or pressured for any of my decisions and was always open to the conversation. I ended up having a long labor and delivery process and ultimately ended up electing to get a C section - my baby did not want to get into a favorable position to help me progress despite my efforts and Justine's amazing coaching and direction. After 40 hours of labor, I decided I wanted a c - section. I was never married to a delivery outcome, I was always open to the process going however it would go. And the way Justine supported me with the decision to go to c-section was so special. I don't think I will be able to fully describe it in words, but I felt it. She did not encourage it, she simply supported it as my decision. When all was said and done, Justine had been by my bedside for about 18 hours total between labor and my c section procedure. She took pictures, which I never would've had had she not been there. And her overall presence was like having the most loving knowledgeable and supportive mother. I don't know what I would've done without her. My boyfriend, who originally never saw the value of a doula, has been signing her praises everywhere we go. Following L&D, Justine linked me up with a donor breast milk network while I was figuring out my own baby feeding journey. That was a huge blessings to have access to. I also have yet to mention all the added resources and wonderful services that were introduced to me through Justine's full service package. The prenatal massage was the best massage I've ever had. I was even able to go back with a newborn and get massaged with baby. All in all - this was such a special experience. I have since moved to Texas, but if I am blessed to have another child, I would 1000% hire Justine again. So grateful for her. read more

I'm a yelper typically for the restaurant scene and love reviewing food. I never thought to look for a doula on Yelp but when I was looking to find at least one more doula to interview... I though heck I'll try Yelp... and this is how I found Midwest Doulas. Thank goodness for my yelp obsession!! I sent Midwest Doulas a message about their availability and interest in meeting me. They responded almost immediately (fasted Doulas in the Midwest!!). My initial meeting was with Justine. Upon walking up to Justine she welcomed my husband and I will a big hug. My husband and I did the standard introduction and asked the "interview" questions. Justine answered all the questions with enthusiasm and general interest in us. By the end of our meeting I knew that Midwest Doulas was who we were going to hire for the birth of our daughter. I'm not sure if this is standard practice but Midwest Doulas had three Doulas that are on-call for our Labor Day. They did 3 prenatal visits rotating the Doulas each time. That way we met all the Doulas. Our first prenatal visit was with Justine at our house. She went over our desires, wants, and needs. She took notes and ask many questions. This initial visit was super important as it really let's the Doulas know what we want and expect. Our second visit was with Mary. She talked about our desires, wants & needs, plus taught us some labor positions and exercises. This was super helpful and did come in handy the day of. The last visit was with Staci. She brought us a delicious sweet treat and casually discussed everything and anything about labor and delivery day. I was nervous initially hiring then because I only met one of the three Doulas before signing the contract. I decided that with all the wonderful reviews and how much we loved Justine that it was going to be just fine. Yes it was a gamble but thank goodness we just took that leap of faith and hired them. All three Doulas were equally lovable. We were confident with all three and had no worries who we would end up with on the Labor Day. Now to the actual day!!! My water broke at midnight. Midwest Doulas started a group text with us weeks prior to my due date. So on the night of we sent out a text letting them know my water broke. All of them responded with enthusiasm and excitement. As many of you know labor can last days... my husband and I told them we would be in touch. Several hours of laboring at home my husband decided it was time to have one of the Doulas come over. Now at this point I was in active labor and everything was a blur (my husband will have to write a "part 2" to this review with his opinion). Staci was the lucky winner of being our doula. She came over and lended a helping hand equally to myself and my husband. Laboring at home was all about changing positions and breathing correctly. Staci was great at reminding me what I should be doing. Once it was time to go to the birth center Staci met us there. At the birth center Staci was present and next to me as much as my husband. She encouraged me that I was doing great and I had this. She helped me with breathing, changing labor positions and helped with putting pressure on my back & hips when needed. Several hours later our daughter was born. Postpartum at the birth center- Staci helped me with breastfeeding. Once that was established she went and picked us up dinner!! Man she was a lifesaver from beginning to end!! Two days postpartum Staci came over to our house to check up on us. This was great for so many reasons. As I said above my labor was a blur. It was great talking about the process with her. She also provided us with a ton of photos she took during the labor and delivery. I knew she mentions she would take a few shots... she delivered!! I am so thankful for the photos she took for us. She captured some amazing moments. To wrap this novel of a review up... Midwest Doulas were worth every penny. They were the most expensive Doulas we interviewed but this is where the saying "you get what you pay for" applies! I would highly recommend them! If we have another baby someday I'd hands down hire them again! Their professionalism, knowledge, and personalities are the whole package for a perfect doula. We loved them and will be forever grateful for them! read more

Hiring Justine was probably the best decision I made for my home birth. I instantly liked her, she was easy to talk with, easy to relate to and genuinely interested in my process. I was always at ease working with her and I never felt like I was asking for too much or had too many questions. Justine was always readily available to me through my pregnancy and very quick to respond to any text, phone call or email. I ejoyed all of the up front help and she was a rock during my labor! I don't know how she did it, but she seemed to stay fully present the whole time and be a perfect balance between coach, therapist, and loving guide. I highly recommend working with her! read more

I can't recommend Ale and Midwest Doulas highly enough - nobody should gove birth without them! I had a lot of trepidation about the prospect of childbirth, and Ale was a huge help in pointing me to resources ahead of time, advising on recommendations for what to focus on and what not to worry about. Most importantly, she was a hero when it came to labor itself, I can't imagine doing it without her. I had a fairly difficult labor, about 50 hours from the first induction step to the C-section in the end, including multiple failed epidurals and 4 hours of ultimately fruitless pushing along the way. It was not anyone's version of how they hope a birth will go, but with Ale's help and coaching it felt manageable. Ale was such a good listener both before and during the birth - she really understood what was important to me about the birth and helped try and make that happen, and when there were decisions to be made at the time she helped me talk through the options and come to a good decision. She was also great about guiding me through the process in those many times when you just need simple instructions and coaching to get through the next contraction. She also worked seamlessly with the medical team and helped me understand some of the less clear points as things were happening. Strongly recommend Ale if you're nervous about an upcoming birth and need a wise hand to help navigate what can be a scary and difficult process, especially as a first-time mom. Best of luck! read more

It's so hard to put into words the INCREDIBLE difference Justine made during our first son's birth! We truly could not have had the successful delivery without her. Justine had so many suggestions for laboring positions, had the most supportive, calming, and CONFIDENT presence, and gave me so much peace of mind through the entire childbirth process. I knew from my first meeting with Justine that I wanted her at my birth. This was my second pregnancy. My first labor & delivery was very long and difficult, largely because my baby was sunny side up. That labor ended with an unplanned c-section. I did not have a doula with my first and this time I wanted to make sure I was as prepared as possible to try to achieve a VBAC. Justine was experienced with births similar to my first and gave me confidence that it would be different this time. It was! I had a home birth and it could not have gone better. It was an incredibly fast labor (opposite of my first) and thankfully Justine was able to make to to my house to help guide me with the best positioning as I was pushing. She was calm, encouraging, and so helpful. Our postnatal visit was a beautiful time to debrief about the birth. All the doulas at Midwest Doulas were wonderful during prenatal visits and I would have felt well taken care of with any of them. If you're considering hiring a doula, look no further than Justine and her awesome team! read more

As first time parents, we knew we wanted the support of a doula. The team at Midwest Doulas far exceeded our expectations. We loved meeting and getting to know Justine, Ale, and Erin. They were exceptionally kind, supportive and knowledgeable. Justine guided us every step of the way and provided evidence based resources and tools to help us advocate for ourselves and our ideal birth experience. She was always available for all concerns and questions. She gave us confidence to make a decision when we were told we should induce early due to health concerns. During labor, Justine helped with different positions and coached me every step of the way. She was my personal cheerleader, and it helped me immensely to focus on her calming voice and words of encouragement. She also did a great job including my husband. When my daughter arrived, she immediately helped her latch for the first time. Working with Justine made our first birth experience unbelievably beautiful, and I never felt any fear. I knew I was in very capable hands and had so much confidence in myself and Justine. She is so passionate about supporting birthing families and has a gift for it. We definitely want her support again at all and any future births. read more

From my first conversation with Justine Temke of Midwest Doulas, I knew that by hiring her as our doula for my first birth we would be adding years of expertise to our care team. With every conversation and text message we had throughout my pregnancy, it became more and more clear to me what an asset Justine and Midwest Doulas would be in preparing for my birth, experiencing labor and delivery, and entering the postpartum stage--not just in terms of experience but in terms of empowerment. Justine is passionate about empowering women and giving them the tools they need to make decisions regarding their bodies and births, which are then honored by Justine in a non-judgemental way. I felt so supported and calm heading into my first birth because I knew that Justine would be there to support me and my partner. Throughout my delivery, we had to make many adjustments to my birth plan and Justine was there every step of the way, explaining my options and creating space for me to feel and work through the emotions that came up for me. I felt safe, secure, and empowered even when I had to radically alter my expectations of my birth. What could have been traumatic at times became triumphant. My partner and I are so thankful that we invested in Justine and Midwest Doulas--my pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum experiences have all been far less stressful and far more positive than they would have been otherwise. We chose the Ultimate Birth Package and are so glad we did. It was worth every penny to have Justine present with us at my birth, and the birth and lactation classes we got as part of the package were an invaluable bonus. If you walk away with anything after reading this review, I would say to 1. Hire a doula if you're even just thinking about it, and 2. Hire Justine Temke and Midwest Doulas. We are so thankful to have her in our corner. Working with her was life-changing in the best way. read more

We've had such an incredible experience with the Midwest Doulas team. During the prenatal sessions Ale, Molly and Ashley were all warm, compassionate, patient and exceptionally knowledgeable. Molly was the one to attend our birth and we can't imagine going through it without her. When some unexpected drama with our OB arose, Molly was our best supporter and empowered us to make the tough choices we needed to in order to feel informed, heard and safe. Had she not been there I genuinely don't think it would have occurred to us that we could opt for another provider, nor do I think we would have felt confident advocating for such a change. That alone was worth its weight in gold, but Molly's value didn't end there! During labor she was so helpful, suggesting new positions, guiding breathwork and applying comfort measures. It was a welcome relief for both my husband and me not to have to own the mental burden of thinking and planning in the moment. Rather, we were able to simply follow her lead and offer feedback on what we felt was or was not working. My labor ended up being very fast and I was worried in advance that having a fast labor would make me feel like I got less value from having a doula present, but that was absolutely not the case. In the moment, mere minutes can feel like an eternity and having the right setup and support is everything. Molly was also hugely helpful in normalizing what was happening and helping us unpack the events of our labor after the fact. I couldn't recommend Molly more. It was an honor to share this major life moment with her. read more

I will be forever grateful for Justine and all the support she gave me and my husband during my two VBACs. My first VBAC (second child) was something I desired with my whole heart but I wasn't sure I was capable of achieving it- Justine knew this and made sure to make me believe I was capable, kindly coaching me through pregnancy and during my *very* long labor. She stayed by my side the whole time and helped me with positions, pain management through contractions, pep talks, snacks, and much more. I wouldn't have done it without her. She even helped us to advocate for ourselves through an unfortunate experience at the hospital where we delivered. For my second VBAC (third child), I was a lot more confident and I know in part was because of my previous amazing experience with her by my side. It was definitely the best investment in our pregnancy/VBAC journeys and I wouldn't change a thing if I had to do it all over again! Thank you, Justine, you're amazing! read more

I don't know where to begin I received everything from the positive support, rapid knowledgeable responses, to the unbelievable fallow up. I need to add that I am not a person that asks for help easily or knows where to ask for it. Without question I not only received the support and guidance that I didn't know I could receive but gained so much confidence in doing so. I was able to have a home-birth. I never once questioned my decision or choice, and neither did my doula. I was backed on all of my decisions without judgement. I'm endlessly grateful for having such a positive experience throughout my birth, and postpartum time. Thank you. read more

I have been trying to write this review for almost 6 months now and no words ever seem adequate. I went into this birth wanting a VBAC so badly that I felt if I pushed my Type A self hard enough it would happen. It didn't happen, and you know what? I'm ok with that. I had the exact support I needed in Justine throughout the process to know I tried everything possible and I could be at peace with the final outcome. We laughed, we cried, she held my head as I vomited and didn't choke to death- it was all good! I didn't get the traditional experience I had originally wanted, but I had the extremely healing c-section I needed and that was in large part because of the help and warmth of Justine. Sitting back in a surgical suite having someone poke you in the back with a needle and not doing a great job at telling you when it will happen? Not fun! Having Justine there to make inappropriate jokes with you about the situation? Much more fun (the inappropriate jokes came from me, I promise). She reads the room exceptionally well and how I deal with anxiety is humor, so she gave that to me. I think what was most impactful, beyond having a healing, family-oriented c-section was the support I received via text and phone after. I had some really unique complications and I never knew if I should be worried, if I should go to the ER, if I'm just being overly cautious etc, and she always gave me great things to think about, questions to ask, and advice but allowed me to ultimately make my own decisions. And yes, I did go to the ER twice, and it was the right call both times. She helped me feel more confident in my decisions and helped me feel like I could better advocate for myself, something I didn't have with my first birth. We cannot thank Justine enough for her guidance, support, and most importantly, sense of humor. I wish I had her in my life with my first birth. read more

Justine and Midwest Doulas went above and beyond for our family and this review can't say enough good things about our experience. When I decided to try for a VBAC with my second child I knew that I would need support and help along the way. Justine was that for our family and SO MUCH MORE. Our birth plan did not go as expected and looking back on that experience I don't know what we would have done without her. Thank you, Justine for being there for me and my family when we needed it. My husband and I hired Justine to be our doula for the birth of our second child after the birth and loss of our first child who was a preemie born via emergency c section. It was very important to us to have someone supporting us in our second pregnancy and birth given the complicated and traumatic nature of our first. As soon as we first spoke with Justine, we knew it was a perfect match! We intended to have a VBAC, and Justine and her team helped to coach and prepare us accordingly. We ended up in a repeat c section, and I was so happy to have Justine with us. She supported me both physically and emotionally. I never would have thought to have a doula for a c section, but I would absolutely do it again and recommend it to anyone having one. She made both my husband and I feel empowered in a nerve wracking situation. She was an advocate for me, and she helped be the voice of both my husband and me to ensure our first child and birth experience were also honored. If you are on the fence about booking Justine or Midwest Doulas (we also met with Ale who we adored!), do not hesitate! read more

Hiring Midwest Doulas for pregnancy, birth, and post-partumsupport was easily the best decision we could've made for my second pregnancy. From the moment we had our initial Zoom meeting with Justine, I felt at easeand supported- we hired her minutes after hanging up from our call. We met withJustine, Ale and Rachel leading up to the birth. They helped us to determineour birth plan, taught comfort positioning for pregnancy and birth, and helpedus feel confident and organized in our post-partum planning. They provided uswith resources that were evidence based, and connected us with a lactationconsultant who was right for us based on our previous difficult experienceswith nursing/pumping. Throughout our meetings, they provided non-judgementaland supportive care to allow us to meet our goals for this experience. At the startof my labor (in the middle of the night of course), Justine was extremely responsiveand supportive. She met us at the hospital while we were still in theassessment center. I immediately felt safe and confident in what was to come. (Ishould add, when 2 nurses separately asked us the name of our Doula prior toher arrival, as soon as they heard Justine's name they both were genuinelyexcited and shared how much they love working with her and how incredible sheis.) She was unbelievably calm and encouraging, and knew exactly what to tellme and how to position me in order to help my labor progress. Her support andcare is what allowed me to labor as effectively as I did, and I was so thankfulto have had the birth I had planned for. I know whole-heartedly that I wouldnot have had the birth experience I hoped for without Justine by my side.Post-partum, she continued her relentless support and checked in frequently, aswell as came to the house for a post-partum visit. We had opted for a post-partumDoula, though had the support of family in the early days and didn't need oneright away. They were understanding and encouraging of using this service inour own time, and we had our first shift with Julie over 1 month after ourbirth. I can already see that we will continue to feel supported and cared forin our post-partum journey. I would recommend Midwest Doulas to anyone who ispregnant, regardless of the type of delivery you are hoping for or end uphaving. My only regret is not being able to work with them for my firstpregnancy! read more

Choosing Staci to be my doula was one of the best decisions I've ever made. My first birth went as planned, my second not quite, but through both she was patient, calm, completely present and helped me and my husband in countless ways. Justine and Midwest Doulas made the experience of supporting my wife through pregnancy and labor more meaningful, less stressful and put me in a position to be the best birth partner I could be before, during and after labor. There are so many unknowns during pregnancy and birth, hiring Justine and her team was one of the best decisions we made. In the weeks and months leading up to our due date, the doulas were there to answer any questions we had, help us plan for that day and give us invaluable perspective on choices my wife could make about her own birth preferences. There were many things our OB may never have told us if we didn't know to ask for in advance. The night my wife went into labor Justine was available to us immediately and consistently. Justine's secret sauce is her ability to motivate and keep us calm and confident while under pressure. Justine's dedication to and care for her clients meant that we truly felt she was prepared to do whatever is necessary in my wife's best interests. At the hospital Justine stepped in exactly where and how we needed, and also gave me the space and modeled ways to support my wife the best way I could. A few specific things that made a huge difference for me as a birth partner: Justine was at the door of the hospital waiting for us when we arrived to bring my wife to check in while I parked the car... my wife was 6-7 cm dilated on arrival and I honestly have no idea how this would have worked without our doula there! Justine would have met us at home but my wife was progressing fast enough we agreed to just meet at the hospital - having Justine on the phone to help us stay calm at home and go at the right time was crucial to everything successful that followed. I had no idea about these things or how to identify early labor versus active labor. Once admitted to the hospital, I'm grateful we didn't have to navigate the nurses and medical staff by ourselves - Justine had a rapport with the OB and nurse staff that was professional and mutually respectful. She ensured everyone knew all the details of my wife's birth preferences. She went above and beyond what I ever could have expected. Because of her experience and knowledge, Justine could anticipate things and contextualize things for us. It felt like she had a crystal ball - when my wife was unable to speak because of contractions, a pressure she had never felt in her life, and telling me she is scared: Justine reassured both of us "it's normal" and "let's try this..." moving her to a new position constantly - what a powerful thing! It is very clear once you work with Justine that she is at the top of her field and strives for greatness - it's not just that she has figured out an amazing business model for doulas... she is actually the best you can ask for. She does this while keeping the birthing person at the center of everything. My wife is proud of herself for what she accomplished during labor. She wanted as few interventions as possible and had an unmedicated birth. Honestly things would have been much harder on our own and we believe she achieved many of her preferences because Justine was there with us. We interviewed several doulas and one of the reasons we chose Midwest Doulas is that Justine has a group of dedicated backup doulas that she herself stands by. There are no guarantees of course - and when we met each of them we were amazed. After each meeting we remarked that if any of them ended up with us during labor we would be happy. They're all great! Another added value of Midwest Doulas is their big network of resources and partners - we did the full package which included Birth Ed and my wife got the prenatal massage. Since our baby was born, my wife has called on Justine for references for lactation consultants and more. You won't know what you need until you need it... with everything else to navigate during 4th trimester, the fact we can call on Justine has been a game changer and another life saver for us. I could go on and on... if you're considering a doula, Justine and Midwest Doulas are amazing. read more

Testimonial, Doulas are Essential Having Justine and her team as my doula support during pregnancy and labor was one of the most important factors for me to be able to give birth naturally. My first pregnancy brought up more questions and insecurities than I could have imagined and even though I read many, many childbirth and pregnancy books, the combination of the knowledge and experience of our medical and doula team was what put me and my partner at ease. Even though Justine was unable to be in labor and delivery--due to restrictions because of the Corona Virus pandemic--her virtual support through texting and calls was pivotal for my birthing experience: I gave birth to a healthy girl vaginally, without any medications, unrestricted in my movement, with positive support from the care team and my partner, and with no doubt in my mind during the whole process that I would be able to bring her into this world naturally. I strongly believe that, without our doula's support before and during birth, my partner and I would not have been as prepared, secure, level-headed, and trusting that my body can do this. I therefore advocate resolutely to designate doula care as essential not only before and after birth, but particularly during labor, which includes virtual and on-site support of mother and partner. During my pregnancy, Justine and Ale's support in three meetings (in person before the stay-at-home order, virtually after) provided my partner and me with essential information about procedures, evidence-based medical information, birthing strategies, and common obstacles during labor--on top of a birthing course we took online from an independent provider. My partner and I were able to practice pain-relieving methods, learn how to work as a successful team during labor, and know about our rights and possibilities for giving birth. One important piece for us was the planning of our drive to the hospital (timing of early stages of labor, navigating pets and an hour-long drive...), which had put a lot of stress on me, but with the help of our doulas we were able to manage that perfectly. Justine also stood in close contact with our doctor, which made me relax and trust my team. Our conversations along the way were reassuring, factual, centered on medical evidence, and yes, fun, and provided me and my partner with emotional support as well. I was able to trust my body because I trusted my doula. Justine was unable to be physically present during my labor because of the pandemic, but she was only a text or a phone call away so that my partner was able to contact her anytime (I labored in the hospital from 11pm until the birth of our daughter at 5:43am). Justine suggested different positions, reminded my partner to give me physical pain relief, and helped us navigate medical decisions. We knew we always had a second opinion just a click away in case we were unsure about particular procedures. We knew Justine had our back, no matter what. Each birthing mother should have the opportunity to have a doula join her team before, during, and after labor and delivery. Doulas are not medical workers, they are not intimate partners, they are not family members--they are the missing piece to a puzzle that allows women to have the most successful birth experience possible. read more

For all the husbands on the fence about hiring a doula-- do it. Especially with Midwest Doulas, we were lucky enough to work with Justine. I came into this experience wanting to be the best possible birth partner for my wife. I read the books, attended the classes, and felt confident in our birth plan. I thought that might be enough-- and honestly questioned if having a doula would be overkill. I couldn't have been more wrong. Leading up to the birth, we met with several doulas from Midwest Doulas. Every one of them was warm, welcoming, and clearly experienced. But we really clicked with Justine. She immediately put us at ease. Her knowledge, calm demeanor, and ability to communicate clearly made us feel like we were in great hands. By the time we approached our due date, we felt prepared and reassured, with Justine just a phone call away. When my wife's water broke, the real work began--and it didn't let up. We went through 45 hours of back labor. The first 20 hours were spent at home and then in a triage room, where I did everything I could-- pressing on her back, holding her belly, lifting and repositioning her--all without rest. I pride myself on being fit, but nothing could've prepared me for the physical strain of supporting her through her relentless, painful contractions. I didn't want to take my attention off of her for a second, but I was burning out fast. That's when we called Justine, and it made all the difference. When she arrived, her impact was immediate. She knew exactly where to apply pressure-- without being told (I'd been getting plenty of instructions from my wife!). Her presence didn't just help my wife-- it helped me too. With her there, I was finally able to rest for about 2.5 hours, which gave me the clarity and energy to be fully present for the rest of the birth. Justine didn't take over; she partnered with me. She made sure I missed nothing-- highlighting the beautiful moments, pointing out progress and where to look, letting me know what to expect next, and giving my wife an extra voice of encouragement. She brought peace, patience, and a steady confidence that helped us stick as close to our birth plan as possible. She even took photos and helped maintain a calm, gentle atmosphere in the room when things were intense. My wife and I both felt genuinely cared for. For our next birth (God willing), there are a lot of things I might do differently-- but hiring a doula will not be one of them. I will absolutely bring in Midwest Doulas again, and Justine will be my first choice. But I also know I can trust the rest of her team if she is unavailable. To any parent-- first-time or not-- don't underestimate the value of a doula. Whether or not you think you're prepared, a doula will elevate your experience, protect your birth plan, and support you in ways you didn't even realize you'd need. Justine made the most perfect day even better. Thank you, Justine. Truly. Mitchell Peterson read more

Third birth, third time I've worked with Midwest Doulas. I could not be happier with the level of care this team provides. For my first birth, we had a very anxious nurse come in to set up my IV. After the nurse stepped away, our doula from Midwest gently told my husband and me that we have the right to ask for a different nurse if we prefer it. We would never have thought to do so - but as soon as she said the words, we both knew that was exactly what we wanted to do. The energy in the room had shifted so dramatically with her presence and would certainly not help as I labored. Beyond that specific incident, simply having people we could ask questions of, no matter what, no matter how silly, was incredible. For our second birth, I really wanted to achieve my goal of an unmedicated labor. There is no way I would have gotten through it without Justine's wisdom and support. She encouraged me to move when I needed to, used her hands to help bring comfort (contractions literally hurt 50% less whenever she was doing body work on me), and she even suggested a potential medical intervention that I could consider with the support of my midwives. Third birth, and I questioned whether or not I "really" needed a doula again for the birth of my third child - wouldn't things be straightforward enough this time? Even before labor, Justine helped me more than I could've expected. I was feeling less comfortable at the birth center (same place I delivered number two!) but hadn't really shared that aloud with anyone. When I did share with Justine, she didn't pressure me but gently validated my feelings and offered suggestions to consider. Without her, I never would have given voice to what I really felt and even knew in my gut. She worked with me to find an alternative solution that I loved. Then, during labor, Justine remained my advocate through everything. It was not a straightforward third delivery. When we ended up moving to the hospital, Justine took over the room (in the best way possible - just what I needed but didn't have capacity to do myself). She's like a mix between a guardian angel and a badass superhero. But the key to it all is not that Justine is doing what she wants - she spends enough time with her clients, truly listens, to be able to be their support through everything, to give voice to the things they're scared to say (or perhaps that they have said that the medical team is ignoring). I truly wish I could gift everyone with a Justine (or Ale or Ashley) at their births. read more

I hired Justine and her team at Midwest Doulas for the birth of my second child. After working with a doula with my first, I knew that this was a must again. Midwest Doulas' evidence-based background, level of knowledge, and degree of care exceeded my expectations! I appreciate Midwest Doulas team approach and I was able to get to know the whole team during the course of the prenatal meetings. At our first prenatal meeting we established my preferences and concerns. One of my first concerns was transitioning my first born into the older sibling role. This was addressed right away at our first meeting where we created a game plan to put my mind at ease. They also helped me advocate for the birth team that I wanted as I transitioned from a traditional OB-GYN team to midwife team part way through my pregnancy. During labor and delivery, the support I received gave me confidence and empowered me to have the unmedicated birth that I wanted. Justine put perspective on what I was feeling during labor and was able to articulate what I didn't have the language for. She had a way of asking me questions that illuminated where I was at and what I needed in the moment. She was remarkable at reading my body language and anticipating my needs. From the moment Justine stepped into the labor room, she was able to recognize that I was experiencing coupled contractions indicating baby's misalignment and jumped into action suggesting different laboring positions until the baby was positioned optimally for delivery. She worked seamlessly with my midwife and nurse team for a smooth delivery. Justine and Midwest Doulas are well known through the twin cities community. Every time I mentioned that I was working with them, from sharing with my midwife to the nurse team I was reminded that I was in good hands. They are also well connected to the community and could link me to any needed resources. I struggled with breastfeeding my first child and knew I wanted extra support. They connected me with a top-notch lactation consultant that launched my postpartum journey on the right foot. Midwest Doulas truly provides exceptional service, grounded in evidence based birth whose level of support is next level. From prenatal, labor and delivery to postnatal, I felt supported and cared for every step of the way. I couldn't be more happy with my birth experience working with Midwest Doulas. I would 100% work with Midwest Doulas again and I highly recommend them for any family in the twin cities! read more

Choosing Midwest Doulas for the birth of our 2nd daughter was the best decision we made all pregnancy! I can't recommend Justine and her team enough. Being my 2nd pregnancy, I wasn't sure that I needed a doula this time around. It wasn't until I was about 28 weeks pregnant that I decided I wanted to make some changes to our birth plan and knew a doula could help us achieve what we wanted out of the rest of the pregnancy and delivery. Justine was recommended to us by a friend (who was previously a doula herself). When we met her it was SO clear how knowledgeable she was on research based best practices (very important to me!) and what a strong support person she would be during our pregnancy and birth. She helped us navigate changing providers and hospitals, crafting our intentions for the delivery into a birth plan, and helping prepare us mentally and physically for the challenges of birth and adding a new member to the family. I appreciated how she was intentional with helping us prepare our 1st child for becoming a big sister and how this change could affect her and our family dynamics. Justine was a trusted voice during the end of my pregnancy as I developed some blood pressure issues and faced the challenges of having a breech baby (who was successfully flipped via ECV!) She was always available to answer my questions and offer suggestions based on research and her own experiences. Through all of that she remained SO confident and positive that I would still have a beautiful birth which helped me feel the same way! On the day of my birth, Justine gave me confidence and advice on how to voice my desires with the hospital staff (many of whom she has a wonderful relationship with!) Once she arrived I put all of my faith into her coaching and support. I followed her guidance on laboring positions and exercises and I'm convinced it helped my baby come quickly and without unnecessary intervention. In the end I was able to have the unmedicated birth I had been hoping for. My partner and I both agree that Justine's expertise and positive, confident guidance helped make this birth everything we hoped it would be! More than being a first-class doula, Justine is a wonderful person in general. She showered us with kindness, love, and yummy treats during our time together! I'm so glad we met her and for her excellent care during our pregnancy and birth. read more

We are so happy with our decision to hire Midwest Doulas. After undergoing IVF and a long journey with infertility, we were just happy to be expecting and hadn't given much thought to the birth itself. We just hoped for a healthy baby. After taking a childbirth class through our clinic, we gave more thought to birth preferences and how to have a more positive birth experience. We started researching doulas and came across all the positive reviews for Midwest Doulas. We decided to set up time to meet with Justine and better understand her philosophy and approach to being a doula. After speaking with her, we realized she would be a wonderful fit and that having an experienced doula present would help us have a more positive birth experience. Justine, Ale, and Rachel provided useful information and reassurance leading up to our scheduled induction. Their communication was great in the weeks before and they always answered any questions we had with empathy and their guidance was reassuring and evidence-based. When I was in labor, Justine was exactly what my husband and I hoped for from a doula. Her presence was calm, steady, and reassuring. She provided helpful insight as the labor progressed and had great suggestions for improving my comfort and laboring positions. When it came time to push, she was amazing, and I was really grateful to have her by our side. After my doctor recommended that I have an emergency c-section due to fetal distress, my husband and I were emotional and scared. I was especially grateful at that point for Justine. Things moved very quickly, and while the medical team was prepping for the surgery, she explained to us exactly what would happen in the OR and what to expect step by step, which calmed our nerves. She was able to join us in the OR and held my hand, answered my questions during the surgery, and helped me cope with nausea throughout. She also took beautiful photos as our son came into the world. Although the birth didn't go the way we had hoped or imagined, it was still overall a positive experience in large part because of Justine. In the weeks after the birth, she was always available to talk and that really helped us to process the birth experience. We can't recommend Justine highly enough, and we wouldn't hesitate to hire her again if we are able to have another pregnancy. read more

The difference that the entire Midwest Doula team made for us is hard to put into words, even a month after the birth of our child. We were looking for a doula for the birth of our first child and came across Midwest Doulas. From the moment we first spoke with Ale, we had no doubts that we would be in good hands as she was already trying to understand what we wanted from our birth experience and the ways to make sure we were able to have that. This continued to be evident as we worked with not only Ale, but Justine and Ashley as well. The meetings we had with each of them prior to going into labor helped us to be informed and feel calm and prepared going into such a new and life changing experience. It was reassuring to know that we had all of them as a resource and would have met not only our primary doula but also the other doulas who might step in if one was unavailable prior to going into labor. They were also very responsive to any questions/situations that we had come up and made some great suggestions about ways I could be more comfortable as my pregnancy progressed. As we got closer to our estimated due date, they were wonderful about checking in to see how we were doing and how things were progressing. When I started going into labor, Justine worked with us to get out of prodromal labor and through the initial parts of early labor. Ale then joined us at home all through the night, came with to support us while laboring at the birth center, and stayed until after the birth of our child. She gave my husband the support he needed while seeing me going through labor and enabled me to have the birth experience I was looking for. Her support in positioning, emotional and mental encouragement, as well as making sure I got enough hydration and nutrition made all the difference in the world. Even when I was struggling, Ale's confidence that I was capable of bringing our child into this world exactly how I had hoped to helped carry me through. Overall, we cannot thank the Midwest Doula team (especially Ale) enough for their support along this entire journey. Justine and the team were everything I hoped for (and more) in a doula. I was hesitant about a doula in general, due to the cost, but decided to go for it because I was a scared first time mom. I am SO GLAD I did. 10/10 would recommend. We chose Justine as our doula (after interviewing a few) because it's obvious she's incredibly passionate and dedicated to her work. Additionally, she's nonjudgmental and provides evidence-based information. She impressed me throughout the entire process. Justine is a gift to pregnant women and we loved working with her! Pre-labor: Justine stayed in regular contact and was super responsive to all my questions. She reassured me when my issues were normal and sent me evidence-based resources for questions. She had a knack for sensing my needs. For example, she made some recommendations that I initially wasn't interested in. After I thought about them more, I changed my mind and they ended up being exactly what I needed (Hypnobabies and Willow Midwives). Justine's guidance was especially helpful during COVID-19 because she had her finger on the pulse of what was happening with other providers in the metro. Ale did one of our prenatal visits and we adored her too. If we had decided to get postpartum services, we would have loved working with her more. Labor: Justine's presence at my birth was PRICELESS. I felt like I was losing control with contractions and when she walked in, she was able to get everything back on track. She asked my providers for assistance when she thought I needed it. Justine supported my husband too. She knew my birth plan and helped me achieve it. She knew the exact right things to say to me and was so calming. She was an unbelievable coach, especially during pushing. Justine was truly with us every step of the way during labor, which is so great when other staff are switching shifts. She was our anchor. I felt extremely well cared for with her there. My husband wholeheartedly agrees. Postpartum: Justine checked in with me periodically and is always available for questions. It's been amazing to have a resource I can text anytime, especially during COVID-19, when access to other kinds of help is more limited. read more

We are so grateful to have had the support of Midwest Doulas for our birthing journey in August of 2025. When we were in the decision making process of whether to opt for a Doula or not, it was important for us to find someone who was knowledgeable about science-backed methods of delivery and care as well as someone who could educate us on a more holistic approach. We were beyond impressed on both fronts. We met with our Doula team multiple times leading up to our delivery and they helped us feel confident with comfort techniques, asking for help, and made us feel overall more prepared for what was to come. We had complications during delivery and Justine was calm, confident, and encouraging throughout the entire process. She worked with our midwife team effortlessly and took control of the space in just the right way so we knew she was there for us and was a strong advocate for what we had discussed our ideal birth plan would be. It wasn't until we had gone through the experience of delivery ourselves that we realized how valuable and crucial it was for us to have the support of the Midwest Doula team. We had no idea there would be a resource like Midwest (more specifically Justine) who would care so deeply about us and simultaneously educate and support us on such an authentic and compassionate level. If anyone is on the fence about whether it's "worth" it to hire a Doula team... we could not say enough about how worthwhile and crucial it was to our experience. Having the assistance of Midwest Doulas turned what could have been a traumatic and scary birth into something that was difficult but beautiful and empowering as well. After our delivery, Justine checked in on us and Kali made us some of the most nourishing/comforting meals ever. We think about these women and all that they did for us all the time. There are daily reminders of their wisdom and kindness and I can't imagine that will ever go away. Thank you so much for everything you did for us and everything you do for other women and families in our community! Your team is doing so much good! read more

Staci and Justine are the best professionals in the business! My husband and I are extremely analytical and need to really dig into things to feel comfortable. They were able to answer all our (sometimes ridiculous) questions and we're always quick to provide additional documentation for further reading. They've got an incredible professional network which we relied on heavily. They were able to recommend a great birthing class that matched our personalities, connected us to postpartum doulas, had a lactation consultant come to our house same-day when I was too overwhelmed to leave the house and brought us gallons of donor milk from other mothers when I had difficulties producing. My pregnancy wasn't the easiest and it was up in the air about if I would have to deliver early via emergency c-section. They prepared us for this with 1x1 consulting and made sure I understood my rights and options. They prepared me for any scenario and I was confident going into labor. On the big day, Staci was the strong calm force I needed. I was consumed by the contractions and my husband felt helpless, both of us had forgotten everything we learned to help me manage. Staci guided me through the process gently and always knew exactly what to do and what I needed. I was in the hospital laboring for 2.5 days and whenever my doctor recommended a treatment, I ran it past Staci first. She let me know what my options are and we were able to safely keep me in control. It ended in an emergency c-section and I am so thankful Staci was by my side. My husband wanted to watch the procedure so it was Staci sitting next to me. She held my hand and talked me through what was happening. It was her who first described my son to me and had a tissue ready to wipe the tears from my cheeks. I will always have love in my heart for Staci as she was my angel during the most beautiful moment of my life. She started out as a stranger to me and ended up being one of the most important women I've ever met. read more

One of the best decisions I made during my first pregnancy was hiring Justine from Midwest Doulas. During my search I reached out to several highly recommended Doulas, Justine responded right away vs the other doulas weren't as responsive. From the first conversation, I was at ease with Justine. She quickly addressed my fears & concerns. It was clear that Justine was evidence based in her practice vs sharing old wives tales. She shared great information & resources throughout. Her goal is to help pregnant women learn about the very natural process of birth & in doing so remove the fear out of giving birth which resonated a lot with me. I purchased the premium package & recommend that for first time pregnancies. Compared to the experience of my friends who took birthing classes, both my husband & I really enjoyed & learned so much from our birthing classes. More importantly, we were able to discuss all the potential decisions we may have had to make ahead of time, we arrived at the hospital feeling calm, informed & on the same page. My baby was delivered via c-section due to unforeseen complications. Even so, I don't regret my decision to hire Justine because she was there during the most intense parts of my delivery, & not to say I couldn't have done it without her but it would have been a completely different experience if she wasn't there. She was my coach & cheerleader. She gave me her body to lean on. She gave me confidence & the will to keeping going when I felt I couldn't do it anymore. I look back at my intense labor & delivery experience with pride & am grateful I had the support I needed. Not to mention she took the most precious picture of our baby entering the world. My baby just turned 2 months, my husband & I are planning our first date without baby & using the 4 hour postpartum doula support that was a part of my package, what a great perk! I highly recommend anyone to hire Justine & her team for your doula needs. read more

When my husband I first met with Staci for an interview we had a few more interviews scheduled later that week and knew within minutes that we would be cancelling those because we instantly felt heard, supported, and comfortable. The experience only got better through our labor and delivery. When we found out Justine was going to be on call for our son's birth we were so excited! Looking back I was so naive at how lucky we really were and what a huge role she would play. We had hoped for as natural a delivery as possible at a local birth center and so when we hit 42 weeks and were on our way into the hospital for an induction we had to cope that our plan was already changing. Justine reassured us time and again that we had been patient and this was okay! Our induction was two long days and our son was in a posterior presentation which made me exhausted and back labor unbearable. Justine was there for us for support the whole time. She came to the hospital before active labor to work with us on coping, positions, and to try and get baby to rotate. The next day I knew instantly when things got hard when I needed Justine by my side and there she stayed through the rest of my labor and eventual C-section for our BIG baby. Though we had a hard time initially that our natural plan had gone completely out the window and ended with so many interventions and surgery, Justine was there to support us emotionally and physically and literally held my hand through it all and also made sure my husband was doing okay. I said to our midwife as I was being prepped in the OR how thankful I was that Justine was with my husband and that he was taken care of as they waited to be brought to the OR. We've already called her for support since coming home and she was in our living room making us laugh and feel more comfortable within a few hours. I never knew when hiring a doula that we'd walk away with a therapist, friend, and auntie for our son. read more

We decided we would enlist the help of a doula, and after speaking with Midwest Doulas, we were sure that Justine and her team would be a perfect fit for our first birth. In a couple of conversations with Justine, we were lucky enough to talk with her after she assisted parents in their birth journey. These conversations with her only solidified our confidence in our decision as she exuded pure joy after her experiences. All the doulas from Midwest we met with were incredibly supportive throughout the pregnancy, making visits to our home and educating us in a variety of techniques. We took the recommended classes provided by Midwest Doulas, and they also helped us put together our perfect birth plan. Our doulas were responsive to early labor signs, and we felt very comfortable contacting the team when we weren't sure about something. Justine was able to come to our home and guide us through the active labor stage. She knew the right time to head to the hospital. When we were laboring at home, Justine helped ensure we had the rest we needed. She helped us with comfort measures and verbal guidance. Justine was able to keep me calm, centered, and empowered throughout the whole experience of labor and delivery while working seamlessly with our midwife and nurses. She recommended different laboring positions during the birth. That sped up the process. She encouraged me during the pushing stage. That hard work was successful, and he soon came into this world and was in my arm. Justine was so overjoyed for us and reminded me of how strong I was. She took wonderful photos to capture these precious moments, for which we are forever grateful. The expetise didn't stop after the birth of our son, and the doulas continue to be a source of support during our postpartum journey. We can't recommend Midwest Doulas highly enough. We know that without their help, our birth would not have gone so beautifully. read more

We hired Justine rather late in the game, close to my third trimester of pregnancy, and my only regret is that we didn't link up with the team sooner. We originally started out with a midwifery group at a hospital, but halfway through my pregnancy, we decided to pivot and try for a homebirth. Though I felt resolve in this decision, as a first timer, I still had a ton of fear. During our initial consultation, I was immediately drawn to Justine's sense of confidence. I worried about the potential for a hospital transfer due to some severe anxiety experienced in hospital settings, but this fear essentially melted away after meeting with Justine- not because she promised us a home birth, but because I knew that in the event of a hospital transfer, Justine would be the absolute best advocate. I loved how she spoke of the respect she had for clinicians in the hospital, but also how she was clearly unafraid to go up against power structures that exist in healthcare. We were blessed with an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery, so our home birth dreams came true, but I do credit a lot of this to Justine's intuition during my labor. There were a couple instances of things that could have stalled my labor, but I followed Justine's suggestions in different movements and breathwork, and her intuitions were spot on. It was amazing to see how seamlessly she worked with my midwife, almost seeming completely indistinguishable from the medical care team, yet also maintaining such an incredible bedside manner with me. She had 100% belief in me and my baby in a way that transferred to my own mindset. I am so grateful for the continuous support after our baby arrived- the team at Midwest Doulas continues to be a solid support for our family, remaining accessible for questions and crises of confidence. If I have any more babies, I am absolutely certain they will be born in the presence of Midwest Doulas. read more

I decided I wanted to hire a doula when I was 37 weeks pregnant, and Justine was so kind to take us on last minute. My husband was still on the fence after some subpar meetings with other doulas, but our first conversation with Justine changed his whole mentality completely! We were both immediately impressed with her professionalism, knowledge & experience (so much so that we changed OB care & hospitals last minute solely based on her recommendation- and were absolutely thrilled with the care we received from both places!) and are still so grateful she was able to step in and guide us through everything. We had two prenatal appointments to go over any questions/concerns, learn some great tips for managing the end of my pregnancy, and discuss my birth preferences. We also met Justine's backup doulas (not just one, but two!) Molly & Ale, who are both fantastic as well. In the following weeks leading up to birth they would all reach out to check in every so often, and just knowing that we had such an experienced & attentive team really helped both my husband & I feel more comfortable & confident in everything. Molly was the doula we ultimately worked with, and we loved her! She stayed on call & checking in while I was in early labor until we decided to have her come to the hospital, and from there did a wonderful job of guiding me through the rest of my labor & delivery. She had many great techniques for me to manage pain & contractions, as well as ways my husband could be involved & help too. I also really appreciated that she took photos & birth notes- everything was a blur in the moment, so it was really nice to have those later on! Our whole experience was so positive from start to finish, and I just can't speak highly enough about Justine & her team. I will absolutely be referring others to Midwest Doulas, and can't wait to work with them again for my next pregnancy! read more

My sister gifted us the service from Midwest Doulas and it was the best thing anyone could have done. This was our first baby, after a number of losses. Due to anxiety, fear and sadness from my history with childbearing, it was very difficult to think ahead, research options and make decisions about anything having to do with pregnancy or labor. All I could think about was wanting to see my baby, healthy and happy. I didn't feel like I even cared about the rest of the details. Working with our doula team did so many wonderful things for us! They were able to help us work through a number of the decisions that needed to be made for planning our birth. By presenting options, evidence based information, and experiences they have encountered either personally or in their work they truly prepared us for the days to come! They did so much to build my confidence, all the while giving my partner the tools he needed to be the best support person possible. The most amazing part of working with our team at Midwest Doulas was just how comfortable we were with each woman! It was automatically like we were old friends or siblings. They're all very easy to talk with, relatable and full of knowledge on everything pregnancy, birth and baby! The best part of it all is, unlike friends and family who have opinions that come with every piece of advice, the Doulas are all very objective... no personal feelings or preferences included! 100% here for you and supportive of your decisions along the entire process. They help you to run your show, not replay their own. There is nothing we could do to show just how much we appreciated this gift from my sister, or all of the love and support we received from Staci, Justine and Kelly! With the help of a team of Midwest Doulas, I truly believe you can make any pregnancy, be it your first or fifth, the best experience possible! read more

We're 2nd time Midwest Doulas clients! Very happy with both birth experiences. Doula Justine and doula Ale are incredible- both are very knowledgeable and exude calming presences. Our experience summed up: Sometimes you just need to call your doula! My bloody show and mucus plug made their appearance at 5am on a Saturday morning. Justine answered the phone. She calmly reassured me of what I was experiencing. Fast forward 4 hours and my water broke. Another call to birth doula Justine. Because of Justine I got into my bathtub and labored there, relaxing a bit while my husband kept in conversation with Justine regarding my contractions. Justine advised my husband on when to leave for the hospital - our timing was critical, labor was progressing fast. Justine met us at Maple Grove Hospital just as my husband and I were arriving. Once in the delivery room, I felt 100% empowered to "call the shots." Justine's presence was very reassuring. I knew undoubtedly that Justine had my back. As a result, I felt supported in vocalizing my wants regarding the KIND of birth I felt was best for MY body. I gave birth on the floor, on all fours - this position felt amazing for me. *Justine was 100% there to help normalize this birthing position for the hospital staff (staff whom don't often see unmedicated births let alone births outside of the hospital bed itself).* Justine coached me through my breathing, she massaged me during contractions. Justine used her words, encouraging me onward when I didn't think I could take much more. Justine knew how to support me while working alongside the hospital providers. We experienced a beautiful and empowering birth. Justine even took a short video of my daughter coming into the world as well as pictures that we'll forever cherish. Thank you Justine & Midwest Doulas! We're incredibly grateful. You'll forever be part of our story. read more

Justine and Ale supported us for both of my pregnancies and deliveries (both vaginal with an epidural). The first in 2020 and Justine joined us virtually due to Covid restrictions and the second this year where she was able to join us at the hospital. Ale was a huge help with spinning babies techniques providing pain relief during pregnancy and labor. She really took the time to help my husband understand the correct technique and problem solved with us on solutions for managing my pelvic and tailbone pain. Justine is incredibly talented and a master doula. She's one of those people who has an unique gift for the world and helping mamas, babies and their families pre-natal, through labor and delivery, and post-natal is her gift to all of us. Justine was always available to non judgmentally discuss our birthing options and preferences. My labor and delivery experiences were beautiful with both babies and that was due to Justine's guidance and support. With my second baby, I was even able to catch her with an epidural based on the position Justine had me in! Justine is highly respected by the Allina medical staff. I knew she was based on my first birth when she joined virtually and the nurses and even OB were consulting her for positions and next steps via my computer screen! It was even more obvious in my second birth when she was allowed in the OR with me after delivering my daughter for an emergency D&C for retainer placenta. A testament to how much she is respected in the industry. She kept me informed and calm during the surgery and was constantly updating my husband on how things were going to lessen his anxiety. I can't imagine what that would have been like for me and my family if Justine wasn't there. Justine doesn't just think of how to support you in your birth but your whole family through the entire experience of child birth. read more

From our initial consultation with Midwest Doulas & Justine we knew she was exactly what we needed for the birth of our first child. Before we even officially committed to working with Justine she listened to our hopes for our birth experience and helped us identify that our birth plan & provider at the time did not align with our values (and she was so right!). We are so thankful Justine was able to help us navigate a change in providers & birth location at around 20 weeks pregnant & knew we needed her as our doula throughout the remainder of our pregnancy and during birth. Justine and the Midwest Doulas team were always available when we needed them and our virtual meetings felt comfortable quickly, like talking with old friends. When we experienced an unexpected hiccup (breech baby) at 37 weeks, Justine was texting and calling right away to help reassure us and provide recommendations. When it was finally time for labor to begin, Justine checked in frequently and met us at our home to provide hands on support and help decide when it was time to go to our birth place. Even though we had only met virtually or talked via phone up until that point, having her around in one of the most vulnerable times was such a calming presence and relief. During the 10ish hours that we were at our birth place, Justine helped us navigate intervention decisions and advocated for our needs. When labor seemed to stall, she knew exactly what positions to try to get our baby in a more optimal position. She continually provided supportive words and affirmations to help us achieve the positive birth experience we were hoping for. After everything Justine now feels like a part of our family! We cannot say more positive things about working with her and Midwest Doulas and will absolutely be calling on her again if we add more children to our family down the road. read more
