I booked a surgery date of June 10th with the caveat that I would need to quit smoking 4 weeks before surgery. Anyone who has had to do this knows it's difficult. I reached out a little over a month before surgery and asked about the timelines because I was getting nervous about quitting and had just picked up my meds to quite. The response I received is attached to the review. Never once did I mention not having the surgery but they immediately went to how I was now having to pay $4000 to book. Disgusting, fraudulent and unprofessional to say the least. Nobody in their right mind would allow someone to perform surgery on their face after being treated like this. Be aware. It's clear they don't care about their patients. I also did some digging and their results are photoshopped. Stay aware .

I spoke to the office manager, and she refused to give me an appointment, even though I let her know I had called numerous times to get that appointment, waited almost 3 months for it, and she still refused. When I asked to speak with the doctor, they refused to let me speak with her as well, saying she was in surgery and they were the only ones to speak with clients. I asked the staff to have her call me when she was available. A week later, I have still not received a call back, nor the courtesy of a reply from anyone else in the office. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise if this is how this doctor handles her potential clients. (I only added 1 star to be able to post this review - it is actually a zero star review)

At first he said he would make it right and then backed out of that statement. I went to a different surgeon and had them replaced, again. I expected there would be a short consultation followed by an in-office procedure, as is typical, and as I thought was indicated by staff when I made the appointment. After reviewing the general process for removing a mole I asked to have the procedure done. Dr. Thao said that he would need to schedule a time for surgery in an operating room and even spoke of placing me under sedation. Again, in the past this has been a procedure done with local anesthetic and in-office. I expressed surprise and asked why it could not be done same-day as I had been led to believe. Dr. Thao became fairly upset and began to lecture me on my "attitude" saying that "you cannot always get what you want." He then isolated me in a back room and sent a receptionist to speak with me. I got the feeling he was trying to hide my questions from other patients in the waiting room. I was trying to understand why a doctor would choose to charge my health insurance an exorbitant fee by doing a procedure in the OR and put me in danger by requiring sedation. I have never been sedated and being put under sedation would increase the likelihood of an adverse reaction/complication. I chose to not have the procedure with Dr. Thao since I felt uncomfortable with our interaction and did not feel he had my best interests at heart. I also had the feeling that he was prioritizing getting more money by adding unnecessary costs to procedures. I would not recommend Dr. Thao and have actively warned friends to stay away from him. I ended up seeing Dr. Harley Dresner. Dr. Dresner was polite, honest, open, and gave me beautiful results.

I now have what appear to be "frog eyes." My eye lids look like a frog's lids. My eyes looked a lot better before I had the work done. Now I will need to spend more to have them fixed. Yes - he has a nice office and staff. At the end of the day - what matters is the outcome of your surgery. This guy is a hack-job.

The nursing staff and medical team are collectively well-qualified, compassionate, and professional. They thoroughly explain the procedure, what to expect, and the proper after-care at home. For my most recent procedure, the spinal surgery, I was impressed with how well the IV was inserted. Normally, phlebotomists have difficulty with IVs and drawing blood since I have rolling veins. Not so in this case! It was probably one of the easiest times I've ever had one done and there was little pain. The anesthesiologist asked a comprehensive number of questions and ensured that I felt comfortable going into surgery. Since I was having surgery on my neck and the normal way to put in a breathing tube would have cause additional stress on my neck (and ultimately pain, even if I couldn't feel it during surgery), he went out of his way to determine a way to insert a breathing tube effectively and without causing pain. I didn't ask that he do this. He did this on this own which shows his commitment to compassionate care and doing no harm to patients. The surgeon did a phenomenal job on the spinal surgery! After I had been dealing with a pinched nerve in the C5-6 region for 11 months, he was able to correct it during the surgery! He removed part of the vertebrae and noted that the nerve "popped up" immediately - exactly the result that was needed. Immediately after the surgery, I had NO PAIN OR NUMBNESSS in my left arm and hand. After living with the pain and numbness for 11 months, it felt surreal to go about the rest of my day without even a minutest amount of pain in my left arm or hand. The pain in my neck (where the surgical site was) is sore, but that's expected and I was told to expect it since muscles and tissues would be moved around, and part of the vertebrae removed. The appropriate amount of medication was prescribed and is able to address the pain. High Pointe followed up with me the day after my surgery to check on me. I gave an update and had a couple of questions for the nurse. She was able to answer my question quickly. I would high recommend High Pointe for anyone considering surgery by one of the providers. The experience far exceeded my expectations!

If a surgery center receives anything but a five star rating, you should be scared. Very scared. Fortunately, I didn't have to be. Being clean and well kept for a medical facility goes without saying. But the staff was very friendly and put you at ease. I wasn't very scared of going into surgery, but I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't at all apprehensive. It is surgery after all, even if it is miles away from any vital organs. Any number of things can go wrong. And the staff there was all smiley and joked around with me to help disperse some of that apprehensiveness. (One of the receptionists was a Vikings fan and made a comment about my Vikings sweatshirt. We had some fun poking fun at our next door rivals.) You had a private stall to get ready and whoever was there with you was allowed to see you just before they took you away. I remember being sprawled out on a surgery table with arms out much like Neo was in the last Matrix movie. It was kind of surreal and very Holy-like. I don't remember much of the recovery area as I only woke up briefly to mumble that I felt nauseous. I didn't feel like I said it very loud, but I heard some nurses scrambling to page a doc to see if they could give me some medicine for it, so either I said it louder than I thought, or the nurses were very attentive. Surgery didn't turn out to be that big of a deal to me other than not reacting well to general anesthetic. With that said, I don't care to repeat it anytime soon. But if I end up back at High Pointe, I'll certainly feel better that I'm in good hands.
