I recently visited your establishment for food, and while the overall experience was satisfactory, I encountered an issue upon returning my cart. I requested three complimentary chips, explaining that I had several children with me. The employee, who appeared to be around 63 years old, denied my request, stating that only one chip was permitted per customer and exhibiting a grumpy, angry, and unpleasant demeanor. This interaction occurred at approximately 10:30 AM.I saw a couple of people in front of me get 3 and 4 chips from him. It's not right for him to make the difference. read more

I enjoy volunteering whenever I can. I had signed up to do some volunteer work with a team in another country. But before heading out on our trip, we decided to come here first to do some team building so that we could get to know each other. Midwest Food Bank is a faith-based organization. Their mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and provide disaster relief. It is a great place for groups, families and individuals to come and volunteer at. Sign up is easy and they have daily shifts available to help pack and organize food boxes in their warehouse. They make it simple to find a shift that works best for your schedule. When you arrive and check in, Midwest Food Bank shows a video about the organization and explains how food will be packaged. Volunteers are then assigned to different stations. Because you are working with food, hand washing is required and so is wearing a hair net (they provide them). The staff here at Midwest Food Bank is great and they making volunteering fun. It is a great place to bring your kids too! Midwest Food Bank currently distributes nearly $40 million worth of food to over 2,200 non-profit organizations each month. read more

I don't know where to begin. To see the volunteers and the National Guard come with ready smiles and willingness to make life better for others, at the risk of their own health, was a beautiful thing to see. I have been volunteering at this food bank for a year, and I am always amazed at the level and quality of the donations from corporations as well as local residents. Although we practiced social distancing, we were still able to connect as volunteers. One of the ladies I worked with is a teacher and she makes a point of ensuring her students know they are loved and missed each day. What was also very touching to witness were the occasional tears in her eyes. When I asked about the reason for the tears, she told me that just a few years ago she was a recipient of the items from the food bank and now she gets to help someone else as a volunteer instead of a recipient. All I know is in the midst of covid-19, we are showing ourselves to be globally strong. Food banks need you donations and assistance. You are helping us make a difference. read more

If you have never volunteered at a Food Bank, it can be a real eye opener. It's sort of like working at Costco or Sam's Club, except you get to repackage bulk items given by food companies, into small portions, to be given to the less fortunate and homeless. It's hard work and sadly you won't get to see those happy faces at the end. But, it's not about us, right? About one hundred of us came here from my company to help on a week day. One group, put labels on gallon sized clear plastic bags, another much larger group of fifty or so would scooped ritz style crackers into those bags, while another group worked with heat sealers to vacuum lock the bags. Then they were all collected and put into boxes to be shipped or given out. All totaled, it was two and a half hours of hard work. But it was all for a good cause and our volunteer efforts we were told were worth about $20 or so an hour each. EACH. If you have some free time and want to make a difference, consider coming here for a few hours. Someone will say a prayer of thanks for your special gift that evening and you will know someone, somewhere will have something to eat because of it. Peace! read more

What age restriction? What ability restriction? THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE VALLEY TO VOLUNTEER. I am able to bring my entire family (including young kids handicap brother) to volunteer together.
