This boutique in Newtownards offers quite a nice range of bridal underwear for the big day - although mostly whites and creams and quite small sizes on display. The lady working there was very friendly and advised me to start looking now and that if I saw anything I liked she would see me on a Thursday night for a private fitting and that she can order any size in. Some of the corsets were very expensive, one corset alone was £149.00 - wow! The lady saw the look on my face and continued to explain that this was a French set and special. She then pulled out the cheaper, but just as beautiful, set for me to look at. I liked it all but I was just browsing. I will make an appointment and try on a few sets soon. I find all 'fittings' humiliating but the lady seems nice and I guess it has to be done. Wish me luck and no peeking.

The shop has expanded into the realms of fitting out kitchens and bathrooms. Fired Earth also does its own own paint range and supplies National Trust colours. It's a real pleasure to visit. Furthermore, the staff didn't take the blindest bit of notice of me which was good as I was unashamedly browsing only though they're probably used to hordes of gawpers which is what you get for having such a superior shop.

As a woman it feels like all men's clothes look the same, but these guys will help you through the cuts and shapes or whatever these shirts are called with warmth and knowledge. OK, they aren't the cheapest menswear shop in town, but with their old club feel and service, they are up amongst the classiest.

I confess that my feet gave out, so I went back to our hotel. 40 minutes later, my husband sent an SOS--"we might be in trouble-- please come here." Dutifully, I put on my shoes, trotted to North and saw the trouble was potential bankruptcy. Because everything in the store is top notch and well worth its asking price. My purpose there was to rein in purchases. Instead I saw a gorgeous claret colored tweed overcoat, pulled it out, and wouldn't you know it fit my son in the shoulders perfectly. The fellow in the shop when we were there -- Turbo --was amazing. Honestly--just keep prodding him to learn more about how the store is stocked and the garments are made. He and his partner buy lovely hats, belts, luggage, and they design gorgeous shirts, waistcoats, jackets, suits, and overcoats. He even showed us a photo of the master weaver who creates their tweed. Now you are thinking that you can't possibly afford anything here. In fact, we found the prices remarkably fair. I have paid more money for lesser quality garments. My only regret is that we didn't have more time in Belfast -- and of course that I didn't think until they were closed to ask about how to purchase and tailor a coat to fit me. Needless to say, we will be watching their website, and next time we are in Belfast, this remarkable shop will be our first stop.

Zara has recently reopened after a major facelift. The old store was looking a little tattered so…read morethe revamp was more than welcome. So what's changed I hear you ask? Well the woman's section occupies the first 2 floors and then the kids and mens department is on level 2 which is the 3rd floor (hopefully that makes sense). In my opinion Zara is at the higher end of High Street fashion. I think Zara really comes in to it's own in the summer as most of their men's clothing is made from lighter materials. I really like Zara Men's clothing - it's great for smart casual gear and you won't see too many other people about town dressed in it. Their clothes seem to be of Mediterranean style and I'm not sure if a ginger pasty man like myself could pull off white linen trousers but I'm sure there's some Belfast folk who could. One thing I noticed about the new store is that is that it is impeccably well kept by the staff, there wasn't a garment out of place and there seemed to be plenty of staff on hand to offer help. Overall the refurb is great and it's nice to have a Zara store gracing Belfast's City Centre once again.
