I wish these reviews would have been available back in Sept of 2010…read more I was hit by a construction trailer on an overpass on my way to work at 7:30am. The asshole who owned the trailer, did not have a safety latch or safety chains on the trailer hitch. He just had it sitting on the ball on the truck, and when it hit an expansion joint in the overpass, the trailer popped off the truck and hit me broadside, spun me around and if I hadn't jerked the wheel, I probably would have gone over the overpass. I ended up facing the opposite direction I was headed. There was not a piece of metal on my car that wasn't damaged. Both drivers side windows and the rear windows were all blown out. The owner of the trailer, which had sheet metal on it, didn't even check on me until he had his employees find and reload the trailer (all of the metal went over the embankment) before the law enforcement arrived on scene (So he wouldn't get cited for unsecured load). He did lie to them and told them he had safety chains, but they went over the embankment, and he couldn't find them. Praise the Lord, I was not visibly injured. I stupidly refused EMS treatment at the time. I was a county employee, and former nurse, so unless I was unconscious or bleeding to death, I didn't go. It was foggy that morning and I heard sirens going down the freeway (I figured someone may need a squad more than me)! A HUGE MISTAKE! It was used against me during my deposition. My 'attorney' dicked around for over a year. I had even complained about him to the receptionist at one point. He kept giving me the runaround, saying his insurance company was stalling. I at one point asked how much insurance he had, and my 'attorney' said it didn't matter because I wasn't going to get paid very much anyway. Over a year and a half later I had my deposition. I thought my 'attorney' was supposed to be on my side. The insurance companys attorneys, grilled me like I was the guilty party. They asked me if I had had weight problems over the past years, which I thought had nothing to do this my case. They grilled me about my past surgeries, and told me that the injury part of my case was being thrown out due to a pre-existing surgery. Though the accident had exacerbated that surgery and then some, including lumbar issues. My 'attorney' never spoke up in my defense not one time. Months later, after trying to contact my 'attorney' to see where everything was, I was still unable to talk to him. He wouldn't return my calls. I even had information that the trailer owner had had this happen before. I then tried talking to other attorneys who informed me that it had been almost 2 years since my accident, and that the statute of limitations for my case was 2 years, and that they wouldn't have enough time to learn the case, and try it in the time remaining. At two years at the eleventh hour, guess who calls me? Yep, he finally calls me to tell me that I had no case, that their insurance would cover my bills, which luckily after my health insurance, was under $5,000, and after their 1/3, I would get around $6,000. He told me we could go to trial, but it would cost me $7,000 to go to court, and I would have to pay for the jury selection, and he told me if I did go to court, that I would lose. Then I would get no money at all and probably still owe the courts. He had me over a barrel and he knew it. It is my opinion (which I am allowed) that Kurgis Law Firm is in the pockets of the insurance companies. They knew I had a high dollar claim, and paid Kurgis to keep me out of court. Kurgis Law Firm screwed me over big time. To this day, I rue the day I chose them to represent me. DO NOT LET THEM REPRESENT YOU. DO NOT GO FOR THE AMBULANCE CHACERS! Do your research! Don't fall for his spiel 'I don't get paid, if you don't get paid'! It's bullshit!

Rating = 0/0 I had…read morethe most unprofessional experience with the Workmens Compensation lawyer Kurt Knisley. He violated several parts of the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct by threatening to put a lien on my claim, not once, but twice, for simply asking questions and expressing concerns. He violated the following core rules: Rule 1.2 (Scope of representation; allocation of authority) The client decides the objectives of representation, including whether to settle; the lawyer must consult with the client about means and keep the client reasonably informed. Rule 1.4 (Communication)Requires the lawyer to keep the client reasonably informed and to explain matters so the client can make informed decisions. Violation: Kurt Knisley did not inform me nor provide the details of the settlement demand until after the document was sent to the Respondent. He provided no option for the demand letter to be tailored according to my needs. Kurt threatened to withdraw as counsel and to place a lien on my claim in response to me asking him why this was done. Kurt Knisley decided to try to intimidate, instead of communicating and consulting. Rule 1.5 (Fees)Fees and expenses must be reasonable, and any lien for fees must be based on a valid fee agreement and applicable law. Violation: Kurt Knisley used the lien primarily as leverage to silence my concerns. This is inconsistent with the requirement that fee practices be fair and reasonable. Rule 1.16 (Declining or terminating representation)Lists when a lawyer may withdraw but requires withdrawal to be done in a way that protects the client's interests. Violation: Kurt Knisley used the threat of withdrawal and lien in a way that materially harmed my case simply because I challenged his strategy and asked questions. Rule 8.4 (Misconduct)Prohibits conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation, and conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice. Violation:The lien threat was knowingly misleading about Kurt Knisley's actual intention and was mainly used to coerce me into silence or agreement. I would not recommend Kurt for any Workmens Compensation case on these grounds. Kurts threats were retaliatory and coercive. A lawyer should not try to punish a client simply for disagreeing or asking questions. After all, it is a lawyers responsibility to keep clients informed, and represent their lawful objectives diligently.

Long story short I had to do was obtain my license with insurance and the case would be dismissed. This is exactly what happened due to Doug's many connections he has in Grove City. My case was dismissed as I listened to Doug and I had to pay a $65 fine. I HIGHLY recommend Doug and his team! He is the best price (I was shocked! Thank you), responsive, incredibly intelligent, calm and will work hard for you as a client. Thank you to Doug, Anthony, and the entire Riddell Team for getting my case dismissed!
