Just three days later, the exact same problem came back. I returned to Hyatt's so they could check their work, but this time they told me I needed a new fuel pump. Since replacing the pump is a straightforward job, I bought one myself for about $500 and installed it. After replacing the pump, the problem still wasn't fixed. That's when I decided to inspect the work Hyatt's had done. What I found was shocking. They had installed a 15-inch sending unit in a fuel tank that is less than 13 inches deep. They had also rigged the float so the fuel gauge would constantly read about half a tank. When I called and asked whether they had installed the wrong sending unit, I was told there was only one style available for my truck. That simply wasn't true. Because of Hyatt's incorrect diagnosis, poor workmanship, and refusal to acknowledge the mistake, I'm now out over $1,000 and still had to diagnose the real issue myself.
