This is the sticker Hugh gave us after our tour!

Hugh is the best tour guide out there. He answered all my son's questions and was very funny. He knew lots about Amsterdam so he told us lots of helpful facts. He was so nice and was so understanding. He showed us the best parts of Amsterdam and I 100% recommend this for people of almost all ages. BIG SHOUT OUT TO HUGH.

We took the country side biking tour, which was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. It took a little over 3 hours and since were where 21 they split us into two groups. We stopped by a windmill, a cheese farm, a forest, a park, and through the city. The guides, Karl and Patrick, were knowledgeable and funny and did a great job of looking out for us and filling us in on local culture. It cost about 32 euros and was well worth it. The bikes are comfortable and come with paniers. Make sure to get a lunch before you get there since there is a time at the farm where you can eat at a picnic table. They give you rain coats for free, but it can be brisk, so dress warmly.

    This one smiled at us.

Biking in Amsterdam is fun. But biking to the countryside is an experience. Starting in the city, our guide Daniel, whose attention to keeping the group huddled, hydrated, and happy, was invaluable in granting safe passage through the canals of the city center to the outer sections of Amsterdam and then Amstelveen. My first impression was to think that our countryside tour ticket also included a city mini-tour. Daniel took the time to make various stops through our tour towards the countryside, making sure we knew just a bit more than the average person of what Amsterdam city has to offer. Once reaching the countryside, we got to appreciate the landscape and its history. The canals, windmills, farms, and roads, although inconspicuous, serve a function even in modern day Holland. But I'd be doing this review a disservice if I don't mention how gorgeous it was to ride the Asmtelveen. Grew fields intersected with canals and bike paths as far as I could see. Truly serene and bucolic. We stopped by a cheese farm/clog-maker house. My girlfriend was obsessed with the cows and for a second there it seemed as if she would be able to to take them home. Then we got a first hand look on how cow cheese and Dutch clogs are made. We got to sample cheeses and try out some clogs. Very touristy. Very cool. We bough cheeses to have later with our Coffeeshop weed. Worth it. Fair weather allowed for a slight detour. Daniel enthusiastically suggested to our taciturn group that we take the longer route back to Amsterdam. No one complained; everyone nodded and smiled in agreement. We got to traverse Amsterdam Forest and Vondelpark on our way back to the canals and then Mike's Bike Tours shop, everyone in one piece. Even once we made it, Daniel was still kind enough to seek us out and see if there was anything he could suggest during our stay. What a kick ass time. Tips: We had the tour in late May and had fair warm weather. They provide ponchos for rainy days. Bring food and plenty of water for the countryside tour!

What a great experience! Very organized and safety oriented. 3 hours went by fast and you hit every part of the canals and off the beaten paths. Our guide, Mattias, was personable and inclusive with the group as well as insightful and knowledgeable of the city and offered his own thought provoking worldview from a Dutch perspective which was appreciated. Highly recommended and you will not regret. Time well spent.

I cannot say enough amazing things about my experience with Mike's Bikes while visiting Amsterdam. My friend and I did the City Tour on our first day. Biking allowed us to see all of the major landmarks and get a real feel for the city culture. Our tour guide, Sander, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. You could tell he genuinely loves his city. You definitely need to be comfortable riding a bike, but Sander was patient with explaining how to navigate the roads. The entire staff was friendly and thorough when prepping us for the tour. The bikes were also easy to ride (significantly better than the other rental company we tried). It was the perfect way to start our trip!

The tour lived up to expectations. They do a nice job of keeping everyone organized and riding in a safe manner. You should not ride in Amsterdam if you are not proficient at riding. This means looking left and right at intersections, anticipating slow downs, knowing when someone is going to cut you off, getting on and off your bike quickly and in tight spaces, and accelerating around slower riders. We had some novice riders in our group and that slowed us down. I have mixed thoughts on the stop at the farm. You meet a cheese maker and wooden shoemaker. The cheese maker was . . . super cheesy but harmless. The shoemaker made a number of overtures for us to buy his product. We are clearly a source of revenue for these guys. I wish he did not make that so blatant. I would definitely recommend the guided tour. They run a quality operation. Bikes are in good condition. Again, they seem to focus on safety which is very appropriate.

After a bunch of research we decide on hungry birds, and it was a good decision. Our guide for the tour was Anne, as you proved to be a little ball of positive energy that was totally appreciated. She handled controversial issues well, and introduced us to many of the tastes of the market. We tasted everything from fresh Herring to smoke deal to sought after, cookies and we seem to have a back door, no line access to everything. If you'd like to stop reading now is a good point but know that we are big fans of Angry Birds We met at the designated location, introduced ourselves to the other people on the tour and then Anne showed up. She arrived bearing cookies, and my wife and I had actively sought out these cookies just the day before as we had seen them on Instagram. We waited for 15 minutes in line to buy our Van Stapele cookies and here she was showing up with a fresh batch to share with us to get the party started. It was a great start. We then moved onto multiple quality tastes. My wife, ever the brave soul, volunteered to taste the whole fresh Herring that was offered to her, served in the traditional fashion of the seasonal run of the fresh Herring. So it arrived on a plate with onions and pickles, and Leah was taught how to hold the Herring by picking it up from its tail, adding the onions and the pickles and then taking a bite. Mind you the fish had been deboned and cleaned, but it looked every bit of a fish without the head. I volunteered to try a couple of bites as well and enjoyed it. This was at the Volendammer Vishandel, and there was no doubt about the fish being fresh as the place was very busy I don't want to go on and on and ruin your trip to the food tour and so I'll stop here but the combination of the energetic tour guide and the unique stories told made it a very quick four hour tour that I would encourage my friends to take.

But looking back on our tour, there was nothing that could have been improved upon. We met at 10:15 in the morning in a common location that is easy to find but not too busy at that time of day on a weekday. Melissa was friendly and helpful. The tour started in Amsterdam through Vondel Park and then took us to a boathouse community, past the 1928 Olympic stadium, through the Dutch countryside to a working farm where we got to see cows and how cheese is made (with plenty of samples) and saw a typical functional Dutch windmill. The tour was adventurous without being taxing, and Melissa could not have been more knowledgeable of friendly and truly catered to all of our needs.
